It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

@MamaBearH · I find I go off foods too - at the start of this I was eating a lot of tuna and eggs and salad etc. They turn my stomach now. Can't even bring myself to drink a protein shake these days!

On eating the sweets, I am sometimes a lone voice in this aspect but I honestly don't think it's that bad to slip every now and again - they key is being able to pick up again where you left off and don't let it derail you. It's all too easy to say "Oh well I had X I might as well have Z" but in reality, you just need to go "Well that happened, but tomorrow is another day!" and get back on track. We're all human.

@BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · I've been drinking more wine recently which may have also stalled my weight loss, although still in a calorie deficit. I am trying to get to BMI 24.7 which is 6.4lbs away. Also feel like it will take ages now. Good luck with your assessment this week.

You are right, I decided to post last night as a way to say ok I've done this but here's where it ends. I could understand eating something I like or not intolerant too but the fact my brain didn't engage this week before things got shovelled down my throat just prove that the fat chick in me is still trying to fight back. I've just donated 10 bags of clothes though so I'm determined not to go back there. My jab was last night so today is a new day, a new week and I'm going to keep plodding on towards healthy.

Timetofindme · 03/11/2024 12:01

@Jimmyneutronsforehead do you have a good recipe for miso soup? Love the idea of having a batch, might help me on my busy days to have something ready prepped. Love miso soup but never made it!

Pinkbendyman · 03/11/2024 11:27

Just checking in and giving mutual support to all of us, myself included, that are struggling atm with our food choices.

I’ve just got back from a week long holiday in Cumbria and before we set off I decided not to stick to my usual healthy eating habits. Just weighed myself this morning and have gained 1.8 pounds which now means I have 6 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight of 11’10 and a healthy BMI.

It’s the first ever time I’ve gained weight since starting MJ in May, so this is something I need to mentally recover from. Previous to MJ, any slight weight increase would set me off on a huge negative journey of overeating (followed, of course, by even more weight gain)

So, as others have just mentioned, it’s back to being organised and planning my meals for the next week, cooking from scratch and ditching the sugar, carbs and alcohol (although it was really good to go ‘off piste’ for the week!!)

Good luck, everyone, we can do this!

You are so close to where you want to be that maybe this will be like a reset for your body. If you can enjoy yourself, limit damage (under 2lb gain) then return to kicking azzzz it will set you up for any future holidays etc. You can definitely do this so good luck for the week ahead, those 6lbs are yours for the taking.

MamaBearH · 03/11/2024 12:11

I am currently still lying in bed trying to summon the energy to start the day. It's been a full on week & I've to play taxi to my eldest tonight too. I need to go food shopping but I'm trying to think about what safe foods I can stomach this week. Might swap chicken for tuna or some other cooked meat. My losses have actually been better now that carbs are back in my diet so maybe a tuna jacket potato instead of chicken salad. I'll switch up the flavour of my dairy free yoghurt again cause having something a bit closer to liquid for when suppression is very strong at the start of the week helps. Soup could make a comeback too seeing as the weather has changed. I need to have a think about what to eat on training nights as that's where the ready meals were being used (my kids train, I'm just transport but out of the house for up to 3hrs in a warehouse with no facilities).
We can do this! Thank you for all the support. It really does help to talk with others who understand this journey & the struggles faced.

Addictedtobeauty · 03/11/2024 12:18

i recently changed provider and the new needles are 4mm- not sure what I was getting originally but they were definitely longer. I’ve noticed that my suppression and side effects are now peaking at the end of the week, just before my next jab is due. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s so strange!

Pinkbendyman · 03/11/2024 13:49

@MamaBearH thank you for your kind words of encouragement and support 🙂 and you’re right - we’re all so lucky to have each other.

My body is also craving more carbs now that summer is over - the slow cooker will be back out as of tomorrow!

I've had 4mm, 5mm, 6mm & 8mm but not noticed a difference in effect. My brain is definitely more nervous when jabbing with the 8mm even though it's not that big of a difference. I find the longer I've been on a dose the shorter it lasts for me.

We love our slow cooker but it definitely needs replaced as no longer non stick & not really big enough for a family of 5 growing appetites (2 teens, 1 pre-teen).
My eldest loves to cook things like curry in it then add a sprinkle of rice towards the end. It means dinner is ready while we are out at clubs (sports) so the kids have something hot waiting for them when they get home.

Sound advice as always @Slimstar13 I think we all get a bit meh after a while on this medication, probably because overeating served a purpose for us, there's a reason why we all did it, and we have to find other things to be exciting, daring, indulgent, etc in life. The initial phase of learning about MJ, learning to eat well, being more active and stuff covers the initial withdrawal but then we get further along the road, feel meh and wonder why!
I am stuck in the same funk, weight loss is very slow which is annoying as I still have at least 2st to go but I think I have 2 issues to overcome. One is that I have restricted my eating for so many years that my metabolism is slow and I eat small portions so struggle to get in enough protein and fibre. The second is that I have developed a foot injury which is restricting my activity somewhat so I need to find ways around it.
Anyway, a slow loss is better than no loss and I am reassuring myself that I am really reinforcing the healthy eating

I found a recipe that was white miso paste, chicken stock or bone broth, wakame, soft tofu and some softened mushrooms if they're your thing but I'm just super lazy and used to live opposite this sushi warehouse. They moved a few years ago, but they opened a website called sushi sushi and I always have some of their instant miso soup pouches in my bag now. I bought 5 packs of 12 sachets for £15, which I don't think is a bad price but it's definitely cheaper per portion if you make your own bone broth and just buy a jar of miso paste and a bag of wakame, you really only need a pinch of it per portion.

Just having a look now @Jimmyneutronsforehead - what a dangerous website. 😂 got some of the miso soup. I take the dates as suggestions on such packets..l

Good to hear from you @Slimstar13 and your wise words of wisdom, thank you ☺️

You’ve made me have a good long think about my MJ journey over the last 6 months and how flipping far I’ve come, how well I’ve done and most importantly, how much I’ve changed my life.

I've realised it's simply not enough anymore for me to eat half of a meal and wait 20 minutes to see if I am still hungry again, because I find myself asking am I hungry or am I full a lot and I feel like if I'm not bursting at the seams then I must be hungry which is wrong.

So I must eat half my meal, and find something else to do and 20 minutes later if I am still too invested in doing what I'm doing then I'm not hungry. There's no food noise so there is no need to finish the rest.

I’m 3lb off of losing 2 stone. I started in August. Yesterday I had my first 7.5mg dose and honestly I don’t feel any suppression. When I moved up to 5mg it was instant and felt good, this is a bit meh.

I did do the jab (well jabs, a 5mg and a 2.5mg) in my stomach for the first time because my thighs are starting to resemble a Dalmatian from the bruises caused by the jabs (I bruise very easily) so I don’t know if maybe I didn’t do it properly or something, but I don’t like this at all!

Don't be put off, you might find in a few days it peaks. You might just have a slower rate of metabolising if this time.

It's also worth considering changing your injection site if you're not getting suppression. I definitely notice a difference when I swap. This time I went for a flabby love handle. Worth trying a few spots over time to see what works best for you.

Ooh, I do the 20 minute thing too. I set my Fitbit timer to 20 minutes and have a to-do-list on my phone so I choose something to do which hopefully takes my mind off eating.

Some stuff on the list is pretty weird - today I sorted out my bobble hats, scarves and gloves ready for winter. It definitely helps though!

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/11/2024 00:25

@Jimmyneutronsforehead @MelainesLaugh There was a clinical trial which showed that blood levels were highest after tummy injections, then slightly higher from back of arm and lowest after thigh. Problem is that bioavailability is high and there are no studies to show how blood levels relate to effects so we don't know the true impact of that. I have usually used my tummy (OK), have tried arm (OK) and thigh (like injecting water) but we are all different.
There is a TikTok lady on MJ called "Aussie Amy in the UK" or something like that who has tried loads of different sites based on the theory that they just need to be fatty. Think love handles, butt cheeks, etc but I'm not sure of her overall opinion

I'm 1lb off losing 2 stone 7, started in August also. 5mg hasn't really been great for me & I've had 6 weeks of it so moving up to 7.5mg next week. I've always done the jabs in my stomach and usually have great results.
Hopefully it will start to have a better effect for you as the week wears on. There could possibly be other factors at play such as hormones, totm, the different site, maybe changes to your food or fluids that have impacted the effects. Can I ask why you've done a 5 + 2.5 rather than a 7.5mg?

I had a spare 2.5mg from when I got an extra one before moving up to 5mg. Then I ordered another 5mg after being on it for two months and just after ordering I realised I should’ve gone up a dose. So I decided to improvise.

Its basically me ordering too soon and impulsively

SnacklessWonder · 04/11/2024 07:40

1.6lb off for me this week, and 1lb last week which has been my slowest weight loss since I started. However, I am 5.8lbs off my goal now so just trusting the process.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 04/11/2024 08:18

Well after complaining yesterday about my crappy progress lately I've woken up 1lb lighter this morning which takes me to a new low of 174.8lbs. This is finally 40lbs off! I feel a bit better now 😃

IHateMozzies · 04/11/2024 08:28

Is there any point in doing this for one month (due to costs)? I’d love to loose some weight for Christmas but I know I can’t continue to pay for it every month.

Not really, the first month is a low dose to get you used to the medication so you may not lose anything. It isn't a quick fix, it is a long process.

Put the money aside and save up until you can afford to do six months or more.
