It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

I did a full 7.5mg dose yesterday but changed sites and just want to report that my insomnia was not actually that bad. I did it in my flabby love handle.

I did wake frequently but I didn't need to get out of bed for a wee, and I think if I didn't have DS long sharp toenails digging into me then I would have woken up a lot less.

Didn't have any night sweats or overheating and haven't woke up with nausea or heartburn.

Weigh day and lost another 3/4 of a lbs which appears to be the norm for me now as it’s been constant for the last month. Have been on 7.5 for a month and have another 7.5 in the fridge. It’s a slow process for me and i do get disheartened at times with the numbers but a loss is a loss

Peggy148 · 01/11/2024 10:37

@QueenOfHiraeth @Jimmyneutronsforehead thank you for your kind words. I’m feeling a tiny bit better today so attempting half a toasted tea cake (slowly).

@QueenOfHiraeth I’ll ask MedExpress their advice on the volume of my next dose. They were content for me to increase the spacing between doses by a couple of days (no more than 4) which is what I have been doing most recently on the 7.5mg, as 5mg didn’t really do much for me suppression or loss wise.

I am feeling like SUCH a wally.

QueenOfHiraeth · 01/11/2024 12:41

@Peggy148 I have a bit of knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics although it's from many years ago. My understanding is absorbed levels of all drugs go up and down, that's normal as your body absorbs, metabolises then excretes the drug, but generally the aim is to get as steady a level as possible otherwise you are veering from high levels, with risk of side effects, to low levels, with risk of not working adequately. A dose of 5mg every week, as tested, licensed and recommended, would therefore seem to be more logical than 7.5mg every 10 days to my thinking.
Have a look at the link that plots blood levels that people have shared on here which will help you visualise what I mean. I don't have the link to hand but it may be linked to the top of the thread or someone else may be able to share it.

Ask your prescriber is usually the best way to go but I have to say weight loss prescribing is a bit like the Wild West and MedExpress, in my opinion, rarely cover themselves in glory. They have been reprimanded by the regulatory authorities more than once for unprofessional behaviour. If you speak with them insist on advice from a qualified pharmacist or doctor and make sure you ask if they are happy to accept clinical responsibility for recommending use of the medication in an unlicensed way

Good luck x

GlueNoGlue · 01/11/2024 15:57

Weigh day for me, lost 1lb which is almost certainly down to the celebratory cake and Chinese I had last week :) 1lb to goal weight now, going to change it after I’ve reached it

I've got a stinking cold. Head full of cotton wool, throat full of sandpaper, nose full of snot, the works. And to go with it, a craving for sugary carbs then like of which I haven't had in the last 2 months on mounjaro. I had half a doughnut earlier. It helped a bit. But I want the other half. And a chocolate muffin. And the eclair in the fridge.

Is this just because I've got a cold and my body (or brain) wants comfort food? Anyone else get like this when they're mildly poorly?

Hello all, not posted in a while, but getting the absolute. Total. Complete fear and hoping someone can reassure me! Been on 5mg for months, weight loss is great, lose at least a pound every single week, started 14.7 and now at 11.11…. However for the last maybe 6-8 weeks the hair loss has been an issue, just out the shower and the amount that came out today really scared me, wellgard collagen came yesterday and had my first lot today, but pls can someone tell me the hair loss calmed down, I am weaning down as of next week, 3.75 to 2.5 etc… the amount of hair that came out with one hand through the hair in the shower just now was so much! I am honestly worried I will have bald patches soon’

A pound a week is a huge amount, I would assume you’re eating very little to achieve this at your weight, and that’s why your hair is falling out, rather than it being the mounjaro.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2024 17:29

A lb a week isn't a huge amount imo

But impressed losing it on 5

OrangesAndLemonz · 01/11/2024 17:31

Hi all, I wonder if anyone else has had a UTI or sore bladder feeling while on MJ? I’ve got one at the moment, had the standard 3 day course of antibiotics but still feeling quite uncomfortable.
I saw on Reddit that it’s not uncommon to have UTIs on MJ, but I can’t understand the link. I drink plenty of water, always drinking a few pints of water before lunchtime each day and always have.

I've been on MJ for 5 months and I've just started noticing more hair than usual in the plughole now.
I've been taking collagen for most of the time I've been on MJ but have now started biotin tablets.
Ds, who started to lose his hair in his early 20s, swears by biotin. He really believes it slowed his hair loss and thickened it up with new growth.
I read up on it and there was a suggested dose tablets should contain to have any effect so I made sure I got good ones.
I bought these https://amzn.eu/d/cb9d6TJ
It's early days yet so I can't comment on if they are working I'm afraid.

KrankyKumquat · 01/11/2024 17:40

@TheBoldHelper
A lb a week isn't a huge amount at all. On any diet, it's recommended to aim to lose between 1-2lb per week, more than this is probably a bit too high if sustained for more than a few weeks. I've been on MJ for 6 months and have lost at least a lb every week, without fail, and without adverse consequences. It certainly doesn't suggest inadequate calorie intake - probably just 500 calories under tdee per day would result in this sort of loss.
I'm not able to advise on hair loss @Bas16 as it's not something I've experienced but I know plenty of others have so I'm sure someone will be along shortly with advice.

imnottoofussed · 01/11/2024 17:54

Baffled by the comment about 1lb a week being a huge amount 🤷‍♀️

I've also had lots of hair loss but not looking bald yet somehow. Literally clumps of hair come out when washing and in the drain. I'm constantly picking hairs off my clothes etc

I've always taken biotin and also take collagen every day so maybe that's helping me not look bald but it's not stopped me actually losing hair

imnottoofussed · 01/11/2024 17:55

Oh also similar weight and eating around 1200 calories a day and losing just over 1lb a week

diian · 01/11/2024 19:06

@Peggy148 I would not trust Medexpress. I ordered a 7.5mg pen. 7.5mg was on the label with my name. It had been signed off by a pharmacist and signed to say it had been double checked. So 2 sets of initials on the box label. Yet the box clearly shows it is a 5mg pen. So the wrong dosage to that prescribed was posted to me.

I emailed Medexpress about this. They apologised and offered me a new 7.5mg pen or the £20 difference credited to my account.

qotsa · 01/11/2024 19:29

I would say with the hair loss I have previously lost a stone in a month when I've lost weight. Once doing keto and once SW. Both times at the '3 month later' mark I had noticeable hair loss. Like a receding hair line. Awful. It's the cycle of hair growth that after 12 weeks it will drop out after 'trauma'. I went to the doctors about it and that was the first thing she asked. Stopped falling out quickly though and soon replenished and went back to normal. It's definitely not an MJ thing imo. On another note. I haven't actually started MJ yet but it's in the fridge and this chat reminded me of the hair loss. The very day I was going to start it I started feeling ill and have had awful dizziness, palpitations etc. So glad I didn't start as I would definitely have accounted it to MJ as never had anything like it ever. It would've scared me off doing it forever as I've felt so bad. Been off work for two weeks now. Reckon it was covid.

Waspwine · 01/11/2024 20:09

Oh noo nightmare today. Please any advice anyone??

I’ve re-ordered my pen but later than usual as had the bonus dose left in current pen (I’m 6 months in).

I always use a hard twist, but pen jammed mid use today and I may have only had about 2/3mg max. So this week I’d have had massively under what I usually have! (I take 8.5mg).

My new pen doesn’t come until next week poss Tuesday/wednesday.

Do I take 5mg from new pen when it arrives and begin a new weekly cycle from that day? Or wait until next Friday having taken a much lower dose this week?

I know this sounds irrational but I’m worried if I wait until next Friday, effects will wear off and be undone 😱!!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 01/11/2024 20:56

@Waspwine a you get to a pharmacy tomorrow and get some insulin syringes to extract the rest from the pen?

Waspwine · 01/11/2024 21:35

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 01/11/2024 20:56

@Waspwine a you get to a pharmacy tomorrow and get some insulin syringes to extract the rest from the pen?

Thanks for this, that’s what I thought I should do initially so tired this earlier. I went to our local pharmacy and asked for insulin syringes. They enquired further etc and I explained my pen had jammed. I showed my online account with the supplier to evidence I am using Mounjaro (and not trying to get syringes for another purpose) and explained it was for extracting due to jamming of pen but they didn’t offer to sell/provide any syringes unfortunately and advised I contact the supplier for a replacement pen 😔.

ah well that will teach me! I need to get syringes incase of a jammed pen and order my pens in time so I have a back up!!

Yeah sorry op,not sure what I was thinking there,,😳

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/11/2024 21:53

I've got some hair regrowth and it looks dreadful. My hair is very long and there are just all these flyaway that are poking out everywhere, plus I didn't think it looked like I was receding, but the hair regrowth at the front has made people notice that there must have been hair loss there before so I've had some "at least it's growing back" comments. 😬

Logically I feel like I should go short so the regrowth doesn't have as long to catch up but I've spent years growing my hair this long. One of my 2024 goals was to learn how to French and Dutch plait and I have finally managed after 30 years. It turns out I just can't be arsed to.

Yesterday some strands of hair fell down my back and one of the children passed them back to me, like I should just put them back in or something.

Maybe I should start incorporating some bone broth into my life.

Just wanted to share a quick “scale victory”. I bought body composition scales in September.

My first weigh in showed 35% body fat and 61% muscle.

2 months later and I’m now 65% muscle and 31% body fat! I know that’s not a huge difference but I’m glad I’m not losing muscle mass. I lost 6kg in that time.

Waiting9 · 02/11/2024 13:53

Also I noticed hair loss too. It’s likely temporary hair loss ie the follicle isn’t affected so it will grow back. I think it’s called telogen effluvium

Can anyone recommend the best pharmacy to buy Mounjaro in the UK not for price but safety? Thanks

Can anyone recommend the best pharmacy to buy Mounjaro in the UK not for price but safety? Thanks

I buy mine from my local independent pharmacy. More expensive than online but I get face to face appointments, the pharmacist weighs me, takes my blood pressure, went through all my other medications during my first appointment. He demonstrated how to use the pen, explained it all and I can pop in any time with questions etc. Made me feel very safe. So maybe have a look on the websites of your local pharmacies and see if they offer similar x
