Continuing Mounjaro... Part 22

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 28/09/2024 09:10

It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

Miss Mounjaro UK has the most up to date price comparison charts: https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

I had a very odd experience the other day.

I'm 5 months in and almost 3 stone down, not fast but not slow either given that I am post-menopausal and not particularly active. I've had no side-effects at all other than slightly slower than my normal bowels but have had no appetite suppression either, just improved impulse control and slightly reduced hunger. This means I still eat and drink anything I would have before but, usually, in a more controlled way and with fewer treats.
So, my strange experience is that we went out with friends yesterday and I had my first drink and really didn't like it. It was my alcohol of choice, something I drink regularly, and normally love! Switched to sparkling water thinking I just needed hydration and would go back to favourite drink on the next round but just didn't manage it as the thought of it was so unappealing.
My poor brain was far less hung over but far more confused than normal this morning!

NSV- tescos delivery just arrived. Bloke said hello, did a double take and asked if I’d lost a load of weight. I said I had and he said ‘well done pet’ and gave me a thumbs up :)

Aww. That's made me smile! A lot of people don't mention weight changes now for fear of offense, which is understandable but it's so nice to get genuine notice and praise on occasion. I second him, well done pet!

Greyrockin · 22/10/2024 12:07

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 21/10/2024 12:21

More likely because you're at the borderline, @Greyrockin? I'd ask them. Another provider might wave you through.

Thanks @TryingAgainAgainAgain - I emailed them and they said I wasn't approved as it looked like I'd had a long gap between doses. I'm ND and do take things literally, so when they said upload a picture of my original prescription I uploaded a pic of of the box that my very 1st pen came in, which was from June😶. I've sent proof of subsequent orders now and think it's all going through.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 22/10/2024 13:26

That’s good, @Greyrockin. It seems crazy that they don’t have a system to let people know if it’s a simple issue like this, but I guess they have more than enough new customers. Hope it goes smoothly.

WitchyBits · 23/10/2024 09:39

Update time.

Starting weight. 7/8. 17st 5lb. bmi 39.2
Today. 23/9. 15st 2lb bmi 34.2

Currently on 6.25mg as I was really about the constipation going up to 7.5 and it seems to be working a treat. Only had one dose but not noticed much difference up to now.

In other news I'm officially not fat enough for bariatric surgery and yesterday I feel a total fraud when I went to an education session at the hospital. I was even asked if I was in the right place as I was the smartest person there by a mile. I've jumped through so many hoops and now I don't even need the surgery but I'm terrified of regaining all the weight and having to start again. Such a contrary feeling as I'm obviously delighted to have lost weight but 🤷🏼‍♀️😂.

TheBoldHelper · 23/10/2024 09:50

I’m only on day 12, lost about 8 pounds, but bizzarely my cheek bones suddenly emerged today, my face is a lot thinner than it normally is at this weight. And than it was yesterday, I could see it was less puffy yesterday on video calls, but today there is a marked difference, which I’m finding a little startling.

my suppression lasts the week. I do get hungry and I eat when I am. But I make healthy choices. I am aware that although the half life is 5 days, the drug stays in your system for 30 days, hence why it builds up more and more with each new dose, so I’m going to do it as recommended, unless i get drastically hungry in the next two weeks. The only place i will deviate is I think on week four I will go up to 3.75 using the bonus dose before moving to 5mg the following week.

SnacklessWonder · 23/10/2024 16:02

I started my 3rd pen on Sunday and went with 5mg again and I am RAVENOUS. However I don't really mind that so much as I'm planning to start weaning off over the next few weeks and feel like that is starting to mentally prepare me. I could honestly chew the leg off a donkey the past few days!

diian · 23/10/2024 16:37

It was mid June when I stumbled over the 'Continuing Mounjaro' threads, after never hearing about weight loss injections before. It was the disappearance of 'food noises' and amazing success that others were having that caught my interest. After a couple of weeks of lurking, I copied a discount code and ordered a pen.

My parents were both obese, and so was I as a child (14 stone 7 as a 17year old). Then I lost the weight and spent my adult life yo-yoing between 10 and 11.5 stone. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his 30s and had a quadruple heart by-pass at 52 (the age I am now), a leg amputation, total blindness and just about every other complication diabetes throws at you. He spent months in and out of hospital for years before he passed away. If only Mounjaro had been available for him...

Since lockdown I have put on 3 stone and hit an obese BMI. I knew I had to do something about it before 3 stone turned to 6 stone, and finding this thread and @ObsidianTree sage advice changed everything.

Today I hit my GOAL! I started on 28th June at 13 stone 4 (BMI 30), today I am 10stone 8 (BMI 23.9). I have lost 38lb (2 stone 10) in 18 weeks and could not be happier.

Sorry that the first photo is so awful (23rd June- exactly 4 months ago), but being at the cusp BMI of 30, I wanted to show that I really needed it!

Thank you for all the support the mumsnet community has provided. These threads really are changing lives.

@diian - congratulations! You have done so well and I’m really pleased for you. I’m struggling a bit to make real progress - in my fourth week on MJ and have lost four pounds. I’ll just keep going!

VioletsHeart · 23/10/2024 17:35

@TheBoldHelper the first thing I noticed, almost immediately was a change in my face. Inflammation reduction I think 🤔. Never had it before so strikingly with weight
loss. Congrats on your good start. Hope it continues well!

@diian so very well done! You must be delighted. What a milestone reaching a healthy BMI. You’re right about these threads - so supportive and helpful.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 23/10/2024 18:09

@diian wow you look so healthy!!!

Huge congratulations! You deserve all the recognition. Here's to the next journey of maintaining 🥂

I hope you treat yourself to some lovely new outfits to celebrate and keep you inspired.

Glad to hear everyone doing so well! I’m noticing a pattern of losing quite a bit for 2 weeks, then stabilizing and appetite going up - thinking about increasing the dose and then 3-5 pounds comes off. So I’ve been stable at 154.4 for about 10 days and trying to convince myself that the next few pounds is just around the corner. And hopefully a giid 5 pounds comes off so I see the 140s for the first time in ages (saw it very very briefly 9 years ago - and then before that almost another 10 years).

Pinkbendyman · 23/10/2024 18:18

Congratulations @diian that’s absolutely fantastic progress! ⭐️🤩👏

You must feel very proud of yourself, deservedly so!

Please keep us updated on your future progress 😊

TheCatterall · 23/10/2024 18:49

@diian that's absolutely amazing. What new or improved habits have you started alongside the injection? Are you going to continue with a maintenance dose or come off it?

Im 50 now and just starting week 5 with my first dose of 5mg tonight. Fingers crossed in 18 weeks I have formed some amazing habits and have my own happy story to share.

diian · 23/10/2024 19:44

Hi @TheCatterall, my full journey is on the July thread as I have been posting my progress weekly since July - I needed accountability and it is good to look back on.

I have been doing at least 10,000 steps a day. I am addicted to podcasts and walk for at least an hour each night. I have some cooked diced chicken pieces (usually with BBQ or Moroccan spices on) in the fridge for picking at. I each fruit and 5% fat Greek yogurt for breakfast rather than muesli. I always have a tin sugar free mints from Aldi/Lidl in my coat pocket for when I need a sweet. They help with sulphur burps too! The main thing MJ has helped with, is when I am full I stop eating. I also have no desire for cake, chocolate or ice cream.

diian · 23/10/2024 19:52

Maintenance: I have a couple of 5mg pens. I am planning to do a 2.5mg jab (30 clicks) each Friday to maintain. The pen should last 8-9 weeks. I am not worried about the 30 days. I used my first pen for 38 days as we were on holiday for 2 weeks in SE Asia in July and I did not want to risk side effects.

This last pen (7.5mg) has been going for 7 weeks as I have not managed to get anywhere near 7.5mg without an upset stomach. I am still getting good suppression on 2.5mg twice a week.

SnacklessWonder · 23/10/2024 20:56

That's good @diian I intend to do the same, I'm not so worried about the 30 days thing either.

Vamozz · 24/10/2024 10:53

I thought I'd give a little update on my mj journey.
I started at the beginning of May at 210lbs bmi of 31.9. I set a goal of 154lbs which I thought would be unachievable but I not only reached it but have actually reached 148 lbs which is a bmi of 22.5. I haven't gone above 4mg in my 25 injections as I feel like the suppression has been fine and weight loss has been steady.
My only real side effect was hair loss, which I posted about recently hoping to get advice.
I started taking a combination of 7 vitamins from Nutrition Geeks, upped my protein intake and also started using the Champo hair serum. This combination seems to have worked because the hair loss has slowed down AND I've noticed new baby hair growing so I am so pleased 😀 I have a 20% discount code for Champo, if anyone wants it just dm me. Nutrition Geeks offer a 30% discount which you can google I think.
I have one pen left and am hoping to use that to wean myself off mj.

MJ has been amazing for me and I discovered it here on mumsnet. Thanks to everyone but especially to @ObsidianTree for all of the wonderful advice.
Good luck to everyone on the journey and 💪

FarriersGirl · 24/10/2024 10:58

Just a quick question, can anyone who has recently had a 5mg pen delivered let me know what the expiry date is?

Order delivered 2 days ago from Oushk, also September 25.

Choux · 25/10/2024 07:35

Congratulations @Vamozz. Amazing results on only 4mg and pleased to hear you have sorted out the hair loss too. Enjoy your new healthy weight life!

SnacklessWonder · 25/10/2024 07:41

I am in my crazy week again where my weight seems to go up a lb, we'll stick here for 7-10 days then drop. At least I am noticing a pattern. Not going to stress about it as I am away for the weekend and I am going to eat what I want. Am sure the MJ will stop me from doing too much damage though as still only want small portions.
