It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

@MelainesLaugh
ive just placed an order today with them. Think it was 23% off as a new customer. Only cost £153.21 for a 12.5 pen including delivery.

They then do discounts for repeat customers which I liked. I paid £110 for a 5mg pen with delivery which I thought was incredible.

MelainesLaugh · 19/10/2024 21:25

Snozzlemaid · 19/10/2024 20:56

That is a great deal.
Think I'll give them a go.

The discount code you need to input is on here. It works too

Snozzlemaid · 19/10/2024 21:28

Yeah got that thanks.

Yeah it’s 15% which is pretty good. I found it on the monj page too. Will be checking on a regular basis for the best deals. I don’t mind sending photos etc if it’s saving me a fortune lol

I'm firmly in the camp if you want something, have it, move on. One cream cake, one bacon sandwich...won't make you gain weight. A cream cake every day...then yeah that's not great, but as a one-off treat? I personally see nothing wrong with it.

SnacklessWonder · 20/10/2024 10:29

@Jimmyneutronsforehead I feel quietly confident that I can maintain, or within a few lbs anyway. I'm actually quite happy at my weight now (though NHS still says I'm obese ) but I want to lose another 7lb because I want a bit of a buffer. I know the reasons I put on weight - which are quite simple for me. I love food and wine and I'm lazy but I've taken steps to change that.

I'm eating a lot better, I'd think nothing of having pizza Friday night, burger and chips Saturday night (having had bacon sarnies and all manner of things through the day) and then a big roast dinner on a Sunday - again having had a big breakfast. Probably averaging 3000 steps a day and washed down by 2 bottles of wine over the weekend. This has been a wake up call. I can still have those things but it was normal to me to have them all in one weekend. I've changed that thinking.

And I move a lot more. And I drink a lot less!

I know the hunger and cravings will come back but I will just have to learn to manage them but hopefully with the switches I've made less carbs more protein that will help as I used to crave carbs so badly.

I think I will get the 5mg pen like you and @diian have said and it gives me options. I might do two more weeks at 5mg while I am still trying to lose then do several weeks at 2.5mg.

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/10/2024 10:48

@MelainesLaugh Depriving yourself is back to dieting and highly unlikely to be sustainable in the long term when you have to maintain.
I have dieted almost my whole life and always ended up fatter and more miserable. Surely the whole point of MJ is to learn to eat like "normal, thinner people" and that means learning to have the odd thing we really fancy without then plummeting down the slippery slope to gluttony Grin
I went out with friends last night having resolved that if I fancied something, I would have it regardless of if it was sensible. As it happened I didn't come across that temptation but my new approach is LIFE IS FOR LIVING, EAT THE BACON!!!

SnacklessWonder · 20/10/2024 11:46

Oops on my previous post the NHS class me as overweight I mean, not obese anymore Grin

snickleback · 20/10/2024 12:22

Been a while since I posted but now onto week 16? 17? And I'm 38lbs down.
Start date: 30/06/24
SW: 198.2lb
CW: 160.2lb
GW: 140-147l
Height: 5'7"

I did 2.5mg for 8 weeks (+ bonus doses) and have been doing 3.75mg from a 5mg pen since - I'm pretty happy at this dose and have been losing steadily, I doubt I'll increase it much more. Appetite suppression is still there, but I want to feel hungry, so I can learn to manage it. What it really helps me with is portion control, which is a big area I usually fail on.

Starting BMI was 31, currently at 25.1 - just 0.2lbs away from a 'normal' BMI!

I've been with Zava since the start, but switching to Oushk for maintenance, think I will start off on the £20 plan, at least while I use up my pens I already have, then will reassess from there, I'm considering a month on/month off? I've heard good things about Hira's approach to maintenance doses so I hope this is something that would be possible with Oushk!

Like @SnacklessWonder I'm quietly confident about maintaining - I was slim my whole life up until I had a baby. I'm not even sure how much I weighed pre-baby as my weight/size was just a non issue to me, I ate what I wanted and stayed basically the same! I think I must have been roughly 10stone. I think I put on about 2.5 stone in pregnancy, and then a combination of many factors including a birth injury that meant I couldn't walk without pain for 6 months lead to me piling on the weight.

I have been exercising too, trying to prevent as much muscle loss as possible! I go to the gym 3-4 days a week and do weights, and have also been doing couch to 5k, as I'd really like to run a 5k next year.

These threads have been brilliant whilst on the journey, so helpful and inspiring!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 20/10/2024 19:58

Is there anything you all think I should include in thread 23 that we haven't been adding to the other threads or anything you'd like me to do a bit of digging on and add some information and links to.

I have been scribbling some notes about hairloss which is something I've got a lot of experience with. Postpartum was not kind to me at all. 🦲

I also think some information about our bowel health could benefit a lot of us. Constipation is a very real side effect that lots of us struggle with, and if this is new to anyone you might not have much experience with making sure your bowels stay healthy.

Is there anything that mounjaro has affected that you'd like me to make answers about more accessible?

CrazyGoatLady · 20/10/2024 20:19

@snickleback thanks for the tip about Oushk. Might switch to them from MedExpress after my current 5mg pen runs out so I can go on a maintenance plan with them once I reach GW. I'm only around 5kg off GW now, so I've got to start thinking about what I'm going to do. MedExpress say they'll continue prescribing for up to 2 years, but they're a bit vague about how it works.

I have really thick hair even though I have a high undercut shaved in. I've noticed a lot of hair loss lately (not noticeable to others due to the thickness). I am prone to dry skin but it seems to be flaring up a lot to the point it's bleeding and not responding to steroid cream. I've had a gain this week and the only difference is I haven't pooped properly. I don't think these things have been caused by MJ but maybe just exasperated by the change in diet etc. I've been taking supplements but it can be tricky with food due to multiple allergies \intolerances. For example I can't eat many of the usual fibre type foods to get things going. Due to bowel issues any type of laxative has to be an absolute last resort.
I appreciate any info that I can maybe adapt around all my allergies etc to help. Happy with my progress so far so persevering with it.

SnacklessWonder · 21/10/2024 07:35

Weigh-in day

SW 11st 7,8lb
CW 9st 8.2lb
GW 9st

8.2lb to go 😑 although I'm happy where I am really but I want to get lower as I know I'll regain a bit. 9st will take me to the top end of the healthy BMI.

NHS lower end if 7st 7lb 😬 don't think I've been that since I was 11!

Did another 5mg last night, will see where I am in a week or so and then may take it down to 2.5mg. I'd like to get some of my appetite back.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 21/10/2024 08:19

Morning all.

Not weighing today. Went out yesterday with 3 children and the amount of ice cream I had to eat in the absence of any bins and each of the children saying "I don't like it it's dribbling" was too high.

I've woken up this morning hungry, and then ot turned very quickly into intense hunger and then painfully hungry very quickly which is a sensation I was used to pre-mounjaro and I'm not loving it.

Downed some water hoping it tricks my stomach but so far, no. 😫

Got to get DS to school and then ill find something to sort me out for the day.

Has anyone on here used IQ Doctor? They currently have 20% off for new customers which works out great value

I put in an order for 5mg pen with IQ Doctor (I've been on MJ since June). Uploaded all my photos and proof of my starter dose prescription and haven't been approved. My BMI is now 27, with health issues which would allow me to start MJ at a BMI of 27.

I did notice that they focus a lot on Q's about mental health, including if you have ever had suicidal ideation when unwell. I have chronic depression which I'm treated for, and high cholesterol, also treated for. I was honest with my answers as they check with GP. I'm just wondering if I haven't been approved due to MH? Seems a bit odd, I'm still obviously overweight in my selfies.

InspectorGidget · 21/10/2024 11:56

Week 24 update! Nearly 6 months!

I'm 34lbs down - it's been slow and steady for me.
Having moved up to 6.25mg for a few weeks I had my first gain last week so plumped for 7.5mg and lost 5lbs this week. Let's see how long I can stick at this dose for. I was on 5mg for 4 months.

I do mystery dining so have had to really plan as had 2 dines this week!

SW - 236.8lbs
CW - 202.2
GW - 154lbs

No major side effects other than a dry mouth which I've had from Day 1.

I'm really really hoping to get under 200lbs by next week and then build up a nice buffer for Xmas!

As a NSV I bought a gorgeous size 14 dress in Oliver Bonas for my husband's 50th next year. I tried it on for progress ready to put away and it fits me now! I've ordered a 12 online and even that might end up too big!

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 21/10/2024 12:21

More likely because you're at the borderline, @Greyrockin? I'd ask them. Another provider might wave you through.

WoolyMammoth55 · 21/10/2024 13:57

Oof gang this is my 6th pen and my first ever MJ sick day off work! :(

I've been on 7.5mg for a while, in a bit of a stall so did some extra clicks for 8.25mg on Friday. BIG MISTAKE! I feel awful, sulphur burps and bad diarrhoea - painful tummy cramps and not fancying anything even water.

Anyone can recommend what to try? I'm the family breadwinner and work is intense so can't let sick days become a regular thing... Should I do a split dose? I've taken some probiotics and off back to bed now but OOF. Feel stupid for the first time on this journey for doing this to myself - not a good feeling :(

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 21/10/2024 16:32

Sorry you're feeling grim, @WoolyMammoth55. Think you've got to keep trying to get sips of water in. Have you got some electrolytes to add?

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 21/10/2024 16:36

Oh sorry, you meant longer term with doses, @WoolyMammoth55? And there am I stating the bleeding obvious! Sorry, not sure as it doesn't seem much of an increase, but sure someone more knowledgeable will be along.

When did you order? I did one at the weekend, uploaded photos etc, and I’ve had confirmation today that it’s been dispatched for delivery tomorrow.

Ordered Sunday, said not approved today.

GlueNoGlue · 21/10/2024 20:43

NSV- tescos delivery just arrived. Bloke said hello, did a double take and asked if I’d lost a load of weight. I said I had and he said ‘well done pet’ and gave me a thumbs up :)
