It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Hi everyone, just a quickie so forgive me if this has already been flagged, but Care Pharmacy are no longer prescribing Mj if you have PCOS or an underactive thyroid, which will be a lot of people (or it is on our slow losers thread, anyway).

I asked if this was just Care Parmacy or a change to national guidelines. I’ve had no response but in the meantime successfully got my first 10mg pen from another pharmacy. So it looks like it’s just Care. I didn’t want anyone to wait to order their usual pen from them (they deliver promptly so people might be only days away from needing a new pen when they order) then find they’re suddenly without a supplier.

Thats it, have to dash onto the slow thread to tell them…hope everyone’s well!

Gees! What's that about! Please let us know if they respond of if it's national guidelines.

So many people with PCOS are successful with MJ. Same with under active thyroid. Would be interested to know why they are cutting people off.

I also have an underactive thyroid so would be worried if this was for everyone.

Same. I'm 37lbs down since I started. I'm tempted to order a pen just in case but I have 4 in the fridge from early ordering 😂I have the same again to lose though so it wouldn't go to waste.

Yeah my app tells me I've almost 4st still to go to my first goal. It'll be my smallest but not even in the correct BMI

Ifyounevergiveup · 09/10/2024 16:22

@ObsidianTree hello lovely! I haven’t had a response from Care. Tbh I was hoping I wouldn’t, because I suspected no response = “it’s just us”. The only theory I can come up with is that it’s a demand control measure, they just have too much business to keep on top of.

I have googled everywhere I can think of and can’t find anything at all other than various websites, including NHS, saying how useful Mj can be for helping with weight loss in those who have PCOS and/or hypothyroidism. So hopefully we’re safe and can keep jabbing!

Since I’m pretty much only on the slow losers thread nowadays, can I repeat my thanks for your having set up the original thread; I belong on the slow losers but the fact remains I wouldn’t be a stone down in 15 weeks if it hadn’t been for all the info I got from this thread. Hope you’re doing well and life is giving you nothing but good things!

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/10/2024 16:32

I had a bit of an issue this week as I changed provider and strength for my next order.

I am doing OK on 10mg but am always wary of reordering the same strength and then finding I need to go higher so decided I would order 12.5 but, if I am OK over the next couple of weeks would reorder 10mg and hold the higher strength back.
I ordered with Ashcroft Pharmacy and was very impressed by the whole process; ordered yesterday morning, approved shortly after and delivery via RM this morning. The only issue being that the 12.5mg I received expires at the end of next month! Now debating how to do this best!

Can I ask what constitutes a slow loser? Is there a benchmark to join?
Some weeks I feel like I do well but many weeks I sts or maybe lose 1lb. Not sure if it would be based on overall loss though. I've lost 1st 12lbs in 9 weeks with the majority being in week 1.

What if you order slightly ahead, surely this short an expiry would affect that regardless if you plan to keep an extra month or not. You would think there would be a minimum expiry allowed.

ItsAlrightDarling · 09/10/2024 17:00

Following on from my post above about nearly being at goal, my weight loss averages at just under 2lbs a week from start to (nearly) finish. I think some would class that as being a slow loser but it felt just right to me.

KrankyKumquat · 09/10/2024 17:07

@MamaBearH
I think there's a 6week limit before pens have to be taken off the shelf. So just coming up to the end for end Nov pens.

That's over 2lbs a week so I would say pretty fast loss!

You should aim for 1-2lb a week generally, many do go a bit faster but you really can't call 26lbs in 9 weeks a slow loss!!!

Oh really? I'd be ecstatic with 2lb a week. I seem to lose 1lb, sts, lose 1lb, gain 1lb...during the week then finish the week 1lb lighter than the week before

Well I have ordered a couple of weeks ahead which is why this has arisen but my previous provider has decided to stop weight loss medication which panicked me a bit as I had to find a new provider at short notice. I guess I should have waited until I was sure which dose I needed but that would have meant waiting until I had run out!

With reference to the thyroid thing, I very much doubt this concern will come to anything as it is so widely used by people with low thyroid. If, however, it did it would be because a large amount of information had shown a serious clinical concern, in which case it would be foolhardy to continue. Even then there would be prescribers who would prescribe off-licence if they deemed it a valid patient choice (as often happens with HRT)
@MamaBearH and @BellaCriesAndThatsAlright You've both already said upthread that you have got extra pens in hand so I really wouldn't order extra. As someone who worked with medication until recently I do have to say that, in a perfect world, nobody should be overordering and stockpiling medication so to have one spare pen is fine but I wouldn't recommend you think of ordering more when you already have several.

Oh if only, certainly I can only aspire to 2lb a week! Not slow but certainly super!

@MamaBearH there’s no benchmark, not at all, but it’s a thread for slow losers to stay sane! To give you an idea I lost 5lb in my first nine weeks and was on the cusp of calling it quits many times. I started to find I was reading the main thread and just being eaten up with envy, and I didn’t want to be that person, but it’s hard when in my first five weeks I lost, count it, one pound. Luckily for me @LeafUsAlone set up the slow losers not just for Mj but for anyone struggling to lose. Well done you, 1 stone 12lb is a superb weight loss and I’ll now jump back off this thread before my stupid envy habit kicks in again 🤭

I hope the weight loss picks up for you 😊

I currently have 1 spare pen as I've taken 2 doses out of the current one. I understand what you mean.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 10/10/2024 10:54

@QueenOfHiraeth I didn't really intend to build up such a big stockpile. I did order early a couple of times as MedExpress kept messing up my orders and one of the pens they sent a replacement. I'm planning to order every six weeks now to get through it. I did have a bit of a panic when I read the post about the thyroid restrictions and considered it though I must admit.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 10/10/2024 11:59

Little update on DP for any one that's interested in his MJ fallout.

He's played the hokey cokey with a&e a lot over the past few days, they've just not had beds and have treat the pain but not the problem.

Now they're saying markers for pancreatitis are low so he shouldn't be in any pain. They've scanned his kidneys too but his bloods have come back reasonably fine. He is not fine. He's not slept properly for days, they just can't find the problem and he's been put on the day case ward so he's expecting to be released at some point today with no real answers.

He has said this is why he's so stubborn about going to a&e because they never seem to find anything and it's a waste of time and he'd rather be in pain in bed at home than in pain in the worlds most uncomfortable chair while doctors look at you and tell you you're fine.

I've offered to go and sit with him so I can advocate for him but they've just split his chair cubicle in half, it's really busy and the patients in the day case ward all seem to be misplaced and there's some pretty extreme stuff going on with them so I'd just be stood about for hours until the doctor finally does his rounds.

Once again, forgot to take my dose so I'm actually a week behind now and I'm starving. Ate like a pig yesterday, just put 6 chicken wings in the airfryer now and have time to take my dose but probably going to get mad sides if I take a full dose and probably not much suppression if I don't take a full dose and my weight will stay stalled for another week.

Regarding the hair loss, a pro is it now takes hardly any time at all to air dry and my scalp doesn't feel greasy, but the con is I feel like I've practically got 3 hairs left and I'm going to be rocking the homer Simpson soon enough.

On a more serious note I've realised snappage is more the problem for me. I have had an increase in loss at follicle but snappage and weakness in the hair has been the biggest issue so I invested in some Japanese hair care because it was recommended to me to try conditioners with amodimethicone in and my hair feels smoother and doesn't snag when I brush now either.

I probably should dry my hair with a hairdryer but I just don't have the time or the ability to commit to drying my hair with a hairdryer on a regular basis, but thought I'd share about the haircare if any one else wants to look after their last 3 hairs too.

I'm really sorry @Jimmyneutronsforehead - your and OH are having such a rough time lately. Just do what you can, when you can - you can't pour from an empty cup, as the saying goes.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 10/10/2024 15:03

I have had my dose now! A bit of normality.

I need more protein snacks available. Chicken and eggs have both simultaneously unfortunately repulsed me. Not uncommon for this to happen for a few months at a time before becoming appealing again but usually it's one or the other so I've got one as a backup but it's both at the same time this time.

I thought I might give home made beef jerry a try after payday as it gives the chew factor but payday is a ways off yet so will probably be UPF style protein bites until I've had more ideas.

Have just ordered for the first time with curate , previously used zava and med express . Within 30 mins of the order and uploading photos / previous prescription it’s been approved and awaiting dispatch . Very impressed so far

WeeklyJab · 10/10/2024 15:19

Sounds like you’re both going through the wringer, @Jimmyneutronsforehead ! I’m sorry you and your DH are having such a shit time of things.

💐 and best wishes for better days

Ellepff · 10/10/2024 17:06

Ah that sounds frustrating. I hate when lab tests are fine so doctors decide someone who is clearly poorly is”fine”

my 0.5mg ozempic has not gone well this week. No real suppression and craving which are worse. If my 0.5 dose tomorrow is the same I’ll go back to .25

Hi Jimmy! How about prawns or king prawns? Big protein with a really small calorie load compared to some meats. And easy to snack on too. Best to you with everything you’re going through. Don’t sweat the blowdrys; if your hair’s snapping it’ll be doing it the power of good to be left to its own devices for a while. In fact that applies to shedding too…it can do without the pushing and pulling, air drying will be your friend! Big love to both of you.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 10/10/2024 20:07

Love the prawns idea. They sell them by the kilo in my local freezer shop and I always thought it might be expensive to buy them but I think portionwise they'd actually be really cheap and easy to cook in a short amount of time. Thank you.

We should start a mounjaro cookbook 😁

Evening all! Been away for a few weeks due to crazy period of long hours at work and family commitments. I’ve managed to avoid the stall though because I CANNOT EAT.

Having eaten like a mesium-sized mountain troll throughout September, so far this month the very idea of putting food in my mouth makes me want to vomit. I’m on dose six of 7.5mg so it’s not a step up, but it’s bizzare. I haven’t really eaten anything since Tuesday and even then I got half way through a tub of chicken salad and had to stop I was so full it actually hurt.

So I am loading up on lucozade sport, protein water things and multivitamins and hoping the hungry feeling replaces the sicky feeling when I look at food. I’ve a fridge full of delicious healthy food going off 🙄 . I might try to make a soup tomorrow to see if that works. Hmm.

Plus side is my size 12 warehouse skirt from 2017 fit me today, but that doesn’t feel like the point….

@Jimmyneutronsforehead god it’s a rollercoaster isn’t it. Well done for sticking with the plan. I’d be waist deep in Cadbury wrappers by now in your shoes, and a lot grumpier than you seem!!

Similar to you, I’m on my 8th dose of 7.5mg and have really struggled with eating this week. I’ve even vomited 3 times (on separate days). It’s really bizarre (and unpleasant!)
