It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

Morning everyone! Its been a while since I posted my weekly weigh in as I've been stalled. However, jabbing in the arm for the first time (instead of the stomach) seems to have fixed it and I've lost 4lbs this week! So thank you to those that suggested it.

SW: 240.8 lbs
CW: 191.2 lbs

49.6lbs lost (so close to 50) and I'm now overweight instead of obese.

Congrats to everyone with losses this week. It's inspiring to see how many people are so close to their GW.

I have 37.2 lbs to go and for the first time it actually seems achievable.

I've had three people notice my weight loss now

Can I just check my maths, I should get 5 X 6 out of a 7.5 pen if I count to 48 clicks?

5 is losing effectiveness but I don't want to shoot up to 7.5.

I'm in a similar place.

Due to take the bonus from my 5.0mg pen today. I ordered another 5.0mg as generally it has been good for me but now I'm wondering whether I should move up.

This week I haven't really lost, I'm a daily weigher and have been bouncing around the same kilo. Have a 0.5kg loss Sunday to Sunday but Monday to Monday my weight is the same and Saturday to Saturday 0.1 off.

I felt a bit peckish and wanted to pick on Friday, Saturday was OK but I was definitely hungry by dinnertime. Sunday I started feeling hungry about 11am when I don't normally eat until 1pm or even later. I was out and the choice was very limited, had a cornish pasty about midday, didn't really want anything until evening after that, was able to resist crisps and cake when DH had some early evening before driving back and then ate a normal smaller than pre-mj meal when we got home late.

Not sure whether I am over reacting to a slow week or whether I will regret starting the 5.0mg pen.

I could get a 7.5 in time for jab day if I want to and then save the 5.0 for when I want to drop down.

Total loss so far is 7kg on 9 doses (1 pen 2.5mg 1 pen 5.0mg).

Interested in what other people's experiences have been and what they have done.

SnacklessWonder · 07/10/2024 10:08

Official weigh-in today.

SW: 11st 7.8lb
CW: 9st 12lb
GW: 9st 0lb

So far I've done

4 doses of 2.5mg
1 dose of 3.33mg
4 doses of 5mg

I will do the bonus dose next Sunday and I have a 5mg pen waiting though I am tempted to titrate down now as suppression is strong and weight loss has been high (3.6lb and then 4.6lb). I'd be happy for it to slow now and increase appetite as I'm not eating nearly enough.

Felt ill yesterday, heart was racing out of chest but it all calmed down after I ate something, so I think I am not eating enough.

Also: this is a picture of 3 malteasers in a bowl. So what you might say!
So: they have been in my house since Friday. I fancied some chocolate and a packet was bought and shared. Yes shared. I had had enough (ten FYI). So left some.
ON FRIDAY. and they’re still casually sitting in the bowl. Chilled. Not calling to me. Not judging me. Not really even a thing.
I do so adore this element of MJ.

@Tireduk I have. My condition is diferent to yours, dilated cardiomyopathy with heart failure, and have been using MJ for 3 months now. I saw my Cardiologist 3 weeks ago and told him about the MJ, he didn't know what it was but googled it 🙄and said that it was fine, he had no concerns as long as it was through a reputable supplier. He did include it in his report to the GP, but he should have already known from Zavas letter. Hope yours is of the same opinion.

SnacklessWonder · 07/10/2024 10:24

I also have a heart condition and chronic hypertension (not weight related, I have it at 8 stone, I have it at 11 stone!), I only see a cardiologist every two years but MedExpress wrote to my GP and I've not heard from them so I figure all is well. My GP is very switched on and pro-active so I'm not worried.

Tireduk · 07/10/2024 10:32

@SnacklessWonder, thanks for your feedback. I’ve googled it and I was reading how they are doing research looking into the benefits for heart related conditions. I’m just hoping my cardiologist agrees as I’m adamant I don’t want to stop just yet! My GP I don’t think is very switched on sadly .. they are already over 3 months behind… Thanks!

3wDavid · 07/10/2024 12:20

Hi all, happy new week!

Quick update from me: I jabbed my arm last week and OH MY GOD. When I tell you I haven’t experienced HUNGER like this in a looooong looooong time! My tummy was rumbling, I was absolutely STARVING. Like my stomach felt empty for the last 5 days! To the point that I did my jab today (2 days earlier) in the stomach which is the one that’s worked the best for me.

On the plus side, I have lost a pound, so there’s that. NSV - someone in my aerobics class commented that I look really fit and slim 😀

Also, when I took my jab today, it was actually the bonus dose which I drew out with an insulin syringe, and got 0.7 ml so a dose and a bit (that was a 5 mg pen). Can someone check me real quick - is that around 6ish?

FarriersGirl · 07/10/2024 12:33

@3wDavid That is 5.83mg so 6ish😀

Just been to the doctor with DP with a list as long as my arm.

Think we went at a bad time though, the patient before us had an extended appointment and was clearly very distressed which made our appointment quite rushed so the doctor has said leave your list and I'll call back once we've been through it so fingers crossed 🤞.

As for me, down but only slightly. I did spend most of yesterday going up and down the stairs taking various little darlings to the bathroom, so I bet I burned at least a calorie or two doing that. Who needs a stairmaster when you're toilet training. My feet feel like they're going to fall off though.

I've completely stalled this last week and I'm gutted. I've swung between 15st 8 ( my lowest) and 16st 2lb in the last 7-10 days. I am due on my period literally any day so that is adding to it but I've been so terribly constipated that I had to order a home enema kit to try and unblock things. It worked and I was 3lb lighter afterwards and the sense of relief was crazy. But I'm torn between wishing I'd decided to order the 7.5 pen instead of the 5 and being terrified of going up to 7.5 in case my insides seize up completely ☹️. I know either way if I can just get below 15st 8 I'll feel like things are swinging back in the right direction. Currently eating lots of veg , porridge and dates for fibre and trying to reduce the protein a bit.

7.5 has been really hard on my bowels.

I have been on it a few weeks now though and the things that have worked for me is eating a handful of dried figs per day, taking 1-2 dulcoease tablets although the daily recommendation is 3, and having some liquid osmotic laxative to hand for if things get really bad but only had to resort to that once.

I'm terrible for not drinking enough so that has been this week's focus and I'm feeling a lot better for it actually.

I think you just need to be conscientious that when you're thinking was this enough protein was this enough fat was this enough fibre that you're also considering if you've had enough water fibre/starches for when it comes out the other side and if you can get into that habit you should be fine.

3wDavid · 07/10/2024 14:54

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - for anyone who struggles with their water intake, try buying yourself a nice big (and I mean, BIG - 1.2-1.5 l ) bottle or cup or tumbler, whatever you fancy. It makes all the difference if you like your cup/bottle, however superficial that may sound. And you only have to refill it twice.
I have a Stanley cup - cute, but do not recommend, but Yeti have some really lovely colours and they keep your water nice and cold throughout the day. A ton of cheaper options also on amazon.

ItsAlrightDarling · 07/10/2024 14:55

Weirdly I can only drink out of a proper glass. I hate every type of water bottle! Can’t drink out of a flask for a hot drink either, it was to be a mug.

That’s frustrating as he was so ill! I hooe the Dr. Gets back to you soon.

Good luck toilet training! We called it a defeat 2 weeks ago after months of steady progress. 2yo was ill for almost all of September (still on his puffer and still has a runny nose). Plus hit the worst of the terrible twos meant he’d gone from 5-6 accidents a week to 3+ per day and I couldn’t bear it. We’re halfway through the packet of diapers and I’m oreparing to start the nightmare again when we run out. I do think when he wants to, he has the ability. He’s just the type to prefer to play or wee in the cat box or a toy or anything except the potty or toilet.

If it's any consolation DS is 6 and had wees in the bag until the bathroom was occupied and in an act of desperation, took him outside to do a bush wee. Then ALL wees had to be bush wees or he would withhold. Try doing that at 2am 😭, so we've been relearning the toilet.

DP has gone back to hospital. He was fine-ish at the doctors, but after I'd left to go pick DS up he sent a message saying he's on his way to A&E with intense pain and sudden vomiting and he'll let me know once he's admitted so felt a bit blindsided by it but the doctor did say to him if you get any intense pains go straight to A&E so perhaps he's just finally listening to someone.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead Hope your DH is ok, glad he is going to get checked out

I haven't weighed myself today as we were at a very boozy party on Saturday and out to lunch with friends on Sunday so I don't need the trauma. I was a bit down on Friday and was hopeful my 3-week stall was ending but who knows where I am now??
@3wDavid I jabbed my arm last week just to see if changing site ended my stall but didn't notice any difference from my tummy. I have tried the opposite arm today as TikTok tells me the dominant arm is most effective so I'll wait and see. I found thigh injections were useless for me, it's funny how we are all so different!

Does anyone here using MJ currently had any previous heart related issues? I was born with an ASD, hole in my heart however it was repaired 29 years ago.i don’t have any blockages and don’t see this as heart disease. I’ve never had medication, have no high blood pressure but do see a cardiologist every 2 years. They told me not to put on weight, although sadly I did. My GP who were notified by Med Express in June called me Friday and now decided that they're unsure if I should be on MJ. I feel so much better after loosing 2.5 stone although want to carry on for another 2/3 months then work out maintenance. I can honestly say I have very little side effects other than the dreaded constipation and feel so much better and happy that I’ve lost weight! I think a few people have contacted the provider which I will and my cardiologist, as the GP requested this. Appreciate any experience if you have any around this, although will talk to the professionals. Apologise for the long message!

I had an asd repaired 20 years ago. I was also told not to gain weight but here we are. I've had no problem and my Dr knows about MJ.

Waiting9 · 07/10/2024 22:05

Has anyone else noticed a lot more posts complaining about MedExpress? It seems like they’re knuckling down on prescriptions more. I think it’s clear they’re one of the more popular providers and they’re getting a high level of demand. I do think they might start tightening their procedures more around referral codes like Voy did - I’m still shocked to hear people are getting numerous free pens.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 08/10/2024 07:33

Morning lovelies. I'm not weighing this morning. With all that went off yesterday nobody could be bothered to cook so I had a greasy kebab because it was the only thing the place we ordered from sold that had something that resembled protein and vegetation. Feeling a bit backed up and definitely having regrets. Y

I rang a&e at 9pm and they said DP was released at 5:50pm and I was obviously worried because he had been MIA but it turned out they'd just dosed him up on painkillers, discharged him and given him a card to present back to a&e if symptoms persist or get worse. His dad had picked him up and he'd zonked out on their sofa and nobody thought on to let me know.

Then the pain intensified again so he went back not long after 9pm and I've not heard anything really since. I've woken up with a banging headache and can feel my pulse wrapped around my skull. Forgot to take my dose yesterday too.

Plan is, get DS to school, take my dose, call the hospital reception desk and see if they can point me to a ward, grab some lucozade or something with electrolytes in because I can't remember when the last time I had a drink was, and go and find out what was going on.

Thinking of you too @Jimmyneutronsforehead , that all sounds horribly stressful. Hopefully dh is in the right place, and you can find something to drink. Remember to look after yourself as well as everyone else.
