It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

That's what I am starting to think about @ItsAlrightDarling, I am 12lb away from goal and wondering about starting to move down now as 5mg is very effective for me - almost 10lb in 2 weeks (and I was only 11st 7.8lb) to start. The suppression is very strong.

I think if you’re still managing to lose at 2.5mg it might be a good idea to start moving down

SnacklessWonder · 06/10/2024 10:56

@ItsAlrightDarling I've done one pen at 2.5mg and one at 5mg (well 4th dose today) and I've lost 1st 9lb in that time.

I'm a bit hesitate to do another 5 weeks at 5mg as once I get to goal of 9st I actually don't want to lose anymore. I just want to maintain. My BMI will still be on the upper scale around 25 but I know I can't maintain under that.

ItsAlrightDarling · 06/10/2024 11:04

Wow that’s good going! Sounds like you’re a super responder so if dropping back to 2.5mg works I’d go for it.

Waspwine · 06/10/2024 11:11

@MathildaMattie inspired to hear you are keeping on. I’m such a slow looser and have stalled around just above 10st for a few weeks now so was getting frustrated.

im going to keep going as I know this works. :)

Chasqui · 06/10/2024 11:56

Can I just check my maths, I should get 5 X 6 out of a 7.5 pen if I count to 48 clicks?

5 is losing effectiveness but I don't want to shoot up to 7.5.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 06/10/2024 12:00

DP says he feels better, but he looks like he's aged 30 years practically overnight.

He has agreed that we will make a routine doctors appointment for tomorrow though and we will enquire about checking his bloods out and advocating for some proper post-discharge follow up care but for now he's just being as stubborn as ever.

I weighed today and my weight has stalled again, but it's not an increase! Scales did tease me though by saying 100kg before they decided to recalibrate and add on an extra kilo and a bit.

OP posts:
VioletsHeart · 06/10/2024 12:48

@Jimmyneutronsforehead
oh that does sound worrying. I hope you get the help you need for your DP at the appointment tomorrow.

Sorry about your stall. They are so frustrating. You will get there. I was moaning about mine earlier this week and this weekend I’ve wooshed. Had people around for dinner last night, ate my largest meal in 3.5 months. 2.8 lb down this morning. Because. Obviously.

VioletsHeart · 06/10/2024 12:54

Also: this is a picture of 3 malteasers in a bowl. So what you might say!
So: they have been in my house since Friday. I fancied some chocolate and a packet was bought and shared. Yes shared. I had had enough (ten FYI). So left some.
ON FRIDAY. and they’re still casually sitting in the bowl. Chilled. Not calling to me. Not judging me. Not really even a thing.
I do so adore this element of MJ.

😂😂 i absolutely love Malteasers, i love the wee bunnies and reindeer that appear shouting to me at 2 for a £1 twice a year! I can hand on heart say i wouldn't look twice at them, i have no desire for any milk chocolate at all. I also love crunchie bars and boosts, neither have tempted me. They are dead to me 🤣🤣
Hooray for MJ 💪💃

I got an email from MedExpress to say I now need a review before ordering as it's been 4 weeks since my last order. I've went & worked it out though, thanks to their re-order emails every 2 weeks I'm well ahead on my pens. Ignoring the 5th dose & working it out on the standard 4 doses per pen I'm not even due to start the last one I bought until the 14th October. Anyone else feel like they get pushed into ordering too soon?
This was a different email from the usual time to order consult, just to clarify.

Yes, but trying to work with that so it leaves me with a bit of a margin to titrate down at the end, if I get an unexpected 'hard' cut off.

I just ignored the ‘it’s time to order’ emails and ordered when I was ready. For budgeting reasons I couldn’t order every 2 weeks anyway. So I’ve got one ‘in hand’, but that’s it.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 06/10/2024 15:17

There are so many of us that are close to goal now. I'm 6lbs away!

Yes and no - initially I was buying them on purpose every 2 weeks to build a bit of a stash when maintenance wasn’t a thing. Then I just stuck with the habit and now have like 4 unopened pens 🙈😄

Yep I've got 4 unopened pens too. Not sure when to stop ordering as I've about 30lbs to go.

I keep panicking and thinking maybe I should order one last pen before I get cut off, but realistically i know I’ve got enough to see me through!

I seem to get emails very quickly after ordering to order my next. I'm only on my second pen and ordered it ahead of time as I was going on holiday and wanted it for when I got back but it now means it's going to be probably 4/5 weeks before I order again and they keep sending me emails. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to process the next order as I've still got a lot to lose!

It's tricky as I want to see how this dose.(5mg) works out before deciding whether to step up but it feels like you're pushed quickly to order, and order the next step up.

Otherwise can't fault them but arghhhhh!

Feel so unwell today, I don't think it's the MJ, I think I am getting a virus as I have a sore throat and sniffles but my heart is racing out of my chest, I am so tired and I feel sick.

Hardly eaten today so forcing in some crumpets now but I am needing to do my next dose, but can't bring myself when I feel so rough.

Waiting9 · 06/10/2024 19:02

I’m going to order pens as soon as I’m able to - I think I’ll only need to take MJ until the end of the year to reach my goal weight so I won’t be stockpiling a huge amount. Maybe 1 or 2 pens to cover November and December.

MamaBearH · 06/10/2024 19:48

What I have will see me through till January 8th (using the 'extra dose'). That's another 9 weeks. I still have 4 stone to lose till my first goal (more if I want to follow BMI). I will probably need more MJ but I'm not sure if I'll need to stay on a dose or keep going up.
I'm losing super super slow so think I'll need to look at finances vs weight loss & see what's best to do.
Am I right in thinking as long pens are in date they can sit unopened in the fridge?

MelainesLaugh · 06/10/2024 20:07

Has anyone else found the injections sting if you’re cold? My body was freezing and stiff after being out in the cold and drizzle, and I had a real sting from the jab today. Just wondering if that’s what it was

I have skipped days under similar circumstances and simply being forgetful.

As long as you don't leave it too many days I think you're absolutely fine to take time to rest and recover. Probably sensible to so you don't compound minor side effects with other symptoms from your bug.

Just be sure to look after yourself and keep your fluids up, get your vitamins in and try and get a bit of protein in where you can even if its chicken noodle soup so it's easy on your throat.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, I did it after I had some food.

And didn't the bloody pen jam. I tried it three times (I know you're not meant to reuse the needle but...) had to give up and get a syringe in the end!

Feel like a cold is coming. Good excuse to get under a blanket and enjoy lots of soups this week to fill me up.
