It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

Miss Mounjaro UK has the most up to date price comparison charts: https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

@Slimstar13 Well done! You are doing amazingly!

I am hopeful that my stall may be over as I have moved downwards a little over the last couple of days. Sadly, just before a busy weekend of socialising - lunch out with friends today and a birthday tomorrow which will be very boozy but I am determined to live life to the full even though I want to lose.
I saw a friend a while ago who had lost loads of weight with WW but, last time I saw her she had regained a lot and mentioned in conversation that the only way she could keep her weight down was by turning down social events and she had decided that having a life was more fun than being thin.
I am trying to tread a line between the two (although I don't think I'll ever be thin!)

Pinkyp22 · 05/10/2024 19:49

@TerfTalking
Yes I struggled with the side effects of 7.5, perhaps it was because I had not experienced them much on previous doses and they all hit in one, but I felt really unwell, dizzy, shattered and couldn't eat at all.
I have fatigue on 6.25 but not the level of 7.5 and with electrolytes, early nights I can manage.
Thanks for the info

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 05/10/2024 20:20

TerfTalking · 05/10/2024 18:43

Sure, I couldn’t get on with 7.5 in one hit but 5 wasn’t working so well 4 days in, so I bought extra needles and do 5 on a Friday and 2.5 on a Tuesday as a top up. I’m finding this keeps my appetite under control all week whilst preventing the nausea and fatigue I got from 7.5 in one go. I found both those side effects awful.

This is what I do too.

Just the right appetite suppression with none of the nausea and insomnia from 7.5 in one go.

I did give doing a straight 7.5 a go for 2 weeks in a row just to be sure it's wasn't a stomach bug I'd picked up as it was back to school time so was unsure, but that 2nd week on 7.5 floored me.

Splitting it 5 days with 5mg and 2 days with 2.5mg has been a huge relief.

@Slimstar13 CONGRATULATIONS! I love reading your posts and always really appreciate your openness and honesty.
@OrangeWire really interested to hear about your long use of 5mg and why you went up. I have taken my 12th jab of 5 and just don't know what to do next - stick or twist?😁 i was still losing well until last week but it was a funny week so that could explain it. I think the food noise is creeping back but I also worry I might be looking for it if you know what I mean? What made you realise you were done with 5?

OrangeWire · 05/10/2024 22:14

@IReallyNeedThisToWork I lost really well on 5, until about week 9/10, then the weight loss slowed to 1-1.5lbs a week instead of 2-4lbs (I’m still 19st so I have a lot to lose!) and I realised that I was hungrier than before, but it happened really gradually! I felt that I’ve done long enough at 5 so it’s time to give 7.5 a try. So I took the bonus dose from the 5mg and I’ve split it across the last 2 “official” doses in the pen to make 2 x 7.5. Now that it’s fully kicked in I’m glad that I did. I think if I’d have had less to lose I would have finished the pen off first as it still did “work”.

Downandout21 · 05/10/2024 23:15

Just ordered my forst pen from phamacy2U. Does anyone know how long it takes to be approved?

Also has anyone spoke to their GP before hand. I was super excited, then stupidly googled it and saw a video about bad side effects including people ending up hospitalised woth vomiting, dehydration and pancreatitis, now I'm feeling really worried.

SilenceInside · 05/10/2024 23:20

@Downandout21 were the scare stories you were reading about related to people using Mounjaro that was properly prescribed to them? So many that I've seen have either been about people illegally acquiring what is sold to them as semaglutide which is the active ingredient in Wegovy/Ozempic but could be anything at all as it's illegally obtained. Or about people taking the injections that they've had passed to them by "a friend of a friend" or similar. People who are not obese and shouldn't be anywhere near taking these medications.

Downandout21 · 05/10/2024 23:32

It was apparently a clip from This Morning. I suppose all medications come with a risk.
Is pharmacy 4U a trusted supplier?

SilenceInside · 05/10/2024 23:35

Yes, absolutely. They are registered with the GPhC and all the other necessary and relevant bodies. I use them for my NHS repeat prescriptions, as it happens.

SilenceInside · 05/10/2024 23:37

Oh hang on, it's Pharmacy2u that I use. I don't know about Pharmacy4u in that case. Ridiculously similar name.

Downandout21 · 05/10/2024 23:38

Sorry my mistake, just checked the email, it is pharmacy2U

SilenceInside · 05/10/2024 23:43

You can search for a pharmacy on the GPhC website and see their inspection reports to see if they are meeting the necessary standards, or not. Pharmacy2u have met all the required standards on their most recent inspection.

imnottoofussed · 04/10/2024 18:36

Thats interesting I've not actually checked my pens each time but this current 7.5 I've been starving so wouldn't be surprised if it was a 5

It's really important to check the dose and expiry dates on any medication before you take it. Even if prescribed by your GP. Human error is always possible.

NewLifter · 06/10/2024 09:44

Azuresky68 · 04/10/2024 20:48

That's great, but who do you share codes with? I posted on the code share thread and as far as I know nobody has used the code.

I shared my Zava code a few times. I did ensure each time to provide lots of advice to others rather than just share my code and I also gave honest feedback on Zava (who I think are mediocre) but my honesty must have worked as I have had my code used loads - maybe 15 times 🤣 I've moved to Oushk though!

imnottoofussed · 06/10/2024 09:58

Yes checked and all accurate just feels like it was a lower dose.

Will ensure to check each one in future.

Just got to get through another two weeks on this ineffective 7.5 then will move up to 10 which I need to order yet. Might move to family chemist as I'm very close to bmi 25 now

Tireduk · 06/10/2024 10:02

Does anyone here using MJ currently had any previous heart related issues? I was born with an ASD, hole in my heart however it was repaired 29 years ago.i don’t have any blockages and don’t see this as heart disease. I’ve never had medication, have no high blood pressure but do see a cardiologist every 2 years. They told me not to put on weight, although sadly I did. My GP who were notified by Med Express in June called me Friday and now decided that they're unsure if I should be on MJ. I feel so much better after loosing 2.5 stone although want to carry on for another 2/3 months then work out maintenance. I can honestly say I have very little side effects other than the dreaded constipation and feel so much better and happy that I’ve lost weight! I think a few people have contacted the provider which I will and my cardiologist, as the GP requested this. Appreciate any experience if you have any around this, although will talk to the professionals. Apologise for the long message!

NewLifter · 06/10/2024 10:06

Sorry for random replies, just catching up on the thread!

Obsidian and Flappy, amazing updates 😍 delighted for you both!

Slimstar you're also incredible.

Jimmy, I hope your DH listens and seeks medical attention. His symptoms sound extremely concerning.

As for me, I don't actually mention my numbers on here usually for some reason! But I'm definitely happy - 7lbs to go to my goal (though not completely sure that will stay my goal!).

My plan is to go back down a few clicks a week from then to try and increase my appetite a bit. Hopefully then I can focus on exercise again as I've been too lethargic recently. I've definitely lost some muscle mass in that time sadly. So I plan to get back to heavy lifting, supported by increased calorie intake.

I had been taking 45 clicks of my 5mg pen - but increased to 48 clicks and now 50 this week (don't actually know or care what mg that is 🤣).

Only managed 600 calories yesterday and that was a push so need to go back a few clicks next week 🤦

Anyway, sorry for the boring post, it helps me to write it all down so I can look back and read it 😂

I hope everyone is keeping well ❤️

ItsAlrightDarling · 06/10/2024 10:18

I’m 5lbs from goal but it’s definitely far harder for me to drop weight now I have less to lose! I’ve stayed the same this week, the only week I’ve not lost a single oz. Will ramp up the exercise this week I think.
To be honest my BMI is 23 now so if I don’t lose any more it’s not the end of the world. The Smart BMI calculator says there are no health benefits to me losing any further weight, so I guess it would just be vanity 😂. I’m going to focus on improving strength and fitness now.

Are you planning to stay on MJ long-term or are you going to come off?

SnacklessWonder · 06/10/2024 10:45

About to do my 4th 5mg dose today and will do bonus dose next week. I have a new 5mg pen in the fridge but the weight is literally falling off me - 3.6lb last week, 4.6lbs this week, which is faster than I am happy with really.

I am 12lb away from goal and eventually I intend to stop MJ altogether and use exercise and willpower and dietary changes to maintain weight.

I am starting to think I should go back down to 2.5mg as I am struggling to eat over 800-900 calories a day.

Can I just do 30 clicks of my 5mg pen?

ItsAlrightDarling · 06/10/2024 10:45

SnacklessWonder · 06/10/2024 10:41

I’m planning to come off. I have 2 5mg pens in the fridge that I accumulated by ordering early so I’m going to use them to titrate down I think. With the bonus dose and the doses left in my current pen (10mg, but I’m only taking 7.5mg doses as side effects of 10 were horrific for me), that’s about another 13 weeks ish of doses. I’m not planning to buy anymore. I want to get my appetite back gradually rather than all in one go!

SnacklessWonder · 06/10/2024 10:47

That's what I am starting to think about @ItsAlrightDarling, I am 12lb away from goal and wondering about starting to move down now as 5mg is very effective for me - almost 10lb in 2 weeks (and I was only 11st 7.8lb) to start. The suppression is very strong.

MathildaMattie · 06/10/2024 10:49

For anyone who’s experiencing a stall I just want to share that at 10lb from my goal I’ve been stalled for 6 weeks and finally losing weight again. I’ve had a few 4 week stalls and never lost more than 1-2lbs a week, but I’ve just kept plodding on.

keep it up, we will get there eventually
