I’ve had the answer to my question about my friend who is now calorie counting and upping her exercise “like me”. Turns out she sits in the (very) judgy camp. So no secret sauce sharing will take place. I think it will just be me and husband until the end. He on the other hand is just blow away with how I’ve done and is starting to consider it for him too. I’m not pushing him. He will come to it, or not, in his own time.

dmott · 19/09/2024 10:01

@Pinkyp22
I have used curate they get a bad rep as the influencers all use them and they have some pushy discount offers.

But I did like the dpd delivery my order arrived cold and I got 15% off my first order and then they emailed me a 22% off code to encourage me to order again.

Fromthesidelines · 19/09/2024 10:30

@pinktransit You are doing everything you can to take care of the health and well being of your mum and yourself at this sad and difficult time. No one could do more. Sending virtual hugs.

ThirdStorm · 19/09/2024 12:53

@pinktransit until the general population no longer thinks MJ is “magic with no effort required” it’s going to remain my secret.

Peggy148 · 19/09/2024 13:10

@Jimmyneutronsforehead @Chasqui I’m sure you’re right about the cake and booze, I’m just wallowing in self pity. I’m feeling a bit better today and the sun is shining so I’m going to drive to the local wetlands and have a long walk with a podcast. Thank you for being great cheerleaders x

@pinktransit im so sorry for your loss, everyone else who has commented is right, focus on your family and take care of yourself, the MJ journey will still be here when you’re ready to get back to it fully (whenever that is). Be kind to yourself x

QueenOfHiraeth · 19/09/2024 13:17

@ThirdStorm I do agree, I'm still a secret jabber
That view that it is magic, etc is unfortunately being pushed by some influencers on TikTok at the moment. There seems to have been a big influx of younger and, possibly, less well-informed users there.

I saw one yesterday who has lost 6stone in 20 weeks, telling people she "cut her calories insanely" and there was a bit of a furore last night from some of the better influencers pulling up someone who has lost over 2st in 10 weeks and said she has such appetite suppression she forgets to eat so usually has one protein bar a day. The comments were insane, full of people sharing codes and ways to get it by lying when not heavy enough. I'm going to look for it again today as one poster claimed Medexpress had posted congratulations and, if that is true, they need reporting

weaseleyes · 19/09/2024 13:30

@VioletsHeart Sorry to hear your friend is judgy - sounds like your instinct to keep it to yourself was absolutely correct! It doesn't matter how much help MJ gives us, it's still a tough journey and the last thing needed is yet more judgement.

QueenOfHiraeth · 19/09/2024 13:56

Just an update. I have found the TikTok video mentioned in my last post.
She actually claims to have lost 2stone in 2 weeks and is congratulated openly by MedExpress in the comments so I have reported it to the GPhC as poor professional practice

MathildaMattie · 19/09/2024 13:58

Is anyone on maintenance? I have just moved to Oushk in anticipation of reaching my goal in the next month or so and wanted a view of how you’re maintaining.

i’m currently on week 4 of a stall, but this has happened before so I’m not stressing.

SilenceInside · 19/09/2024 14:03

Is two stone in 2 weeks even possible?? And crazy that MedExpress have commented positively on it.

You'd have to be an exceptionally high calorific eater to omit enough calories through appetite suppression to lose 2 stone in 2 weeks.

2 stone in 2 months is much more likely, but it depends what her starting weight was I suppose and if she's talking exact figures or rounding up and down.

She does say she's usually a very bad eater and tended to eat toddler type foods like nuggets and chips and graze all day but now gets to the evening and realises she has forgotten to eat all day so has one protein bar and that's it. A lot of it will be water weight of course but for any company to congratulate her rather than raising any advice is shameful

100% agree.

It's looking more & more like I'll need to move away from MedExpress if the negative talk around them gets worse. I've no idea about other companies though. My next order should technically be a 10mg pen but I've not even started my 5mg yet. Last dose was 3.75mg.

I'm annoyed this week cause my weight is exactly the same as this day last week. I hit 15 stone exactly then gained 1lb, gained 1lb, sts, lost 1lb, lost 1lb then 4 days of sts. Eating hasn't changed at all. I know it's my body doing something weird rather than the 'diet' not working. Tempted to throw in a few curve balls like different food or higher calories or something that usually seems to kickstart me again. Anyone else feel like their body just gets used to something & settles so they need to keep it guessing?

Doobi · 19/09/2024 16:15

Afternoon!

I've spent some time this morning looking at apps like MFP that I used years ago and was surprised to see I had weights logged back to 2012.. 12 years wow. That's gone fast.

I was able to see my lowest weight compared to my highest and also saw a pattern of weight gain from when I first started medication for my mental health.

My lowest weight was 79.4kg/175lb/12st 7lb on the 12/06/2013.

My highest weight was 136.6kg/300lb/21st 6lb on 09/05/2023.

So in 10 years I've put on near enough 57kg/126lb/9st..

I'm shocked and quite upset at that.

As I said above, a lot of the weight is due to some of my medication. If I were to stop this, it would jeopardise my mental health. The pros outweigh the cons. It's given me food for thought though.

Anyhow, as of today, I now weigh the lightest I've been in 2 years 4 months (122kg).

My next goal is to get to 118kg- last time I was that weight was October 2021 at my friend's wedding.

Baby steps..

VioletsHeart · 19/09/2024 16:17

@MamaBearH i moved to Med express from boots as cheaper and looked like their maintenance stance was improving. my current intention, still significantly off, is to get to goal weight around 21 BMI, stay on for a few months to really try to cement it in and then gently taper off and see if it holds.
I’m really not up for all this hard work to be undone by being cut off at 23.5. so looks like possibly next pen need to make the move to Family or Oushk.

and re the stall, I’ve just come off one so much empathy. They are so frustrating. I did moderately up calories one day (was super hungry) but I think it was mostly time, waiting for my body to catch up.

Thank you, that all makes sense. I think I might up my intake a bit & see what happens.
I've still my 5mg and 7.5mg pens to use (4 stone still to go till first target) so a while to go before worrying over maintenance. I just hope I get to that point with MJ cause nothing else works anymore. If only I didn't have a life of dieting, maybe I'd still be as 'fat' as people told me I was before all the weight gains.

Hi, just wanted to comment cause I was on a lot of meds that all had weight gain as a side effect. Yes I've dropped over 4 stone since I stopped them but I've also been very ill with my stomach issues which is where some of the loss has come from. I'm struggling just as much to lose now (only on thyroid meds) as I was when on all the meds. You are right to prioritise your mental health. You have done amazing to get where you are huni. I don't know how this is coming across in text but I mean it as a positive response to you so hopefully you see it that way. I understand the struggles with medication and just wanted to say that sometimes after years of being on it, the weight that was gained doesn't come off as easily as we might hope. I think you're doing the right thing by looking at trends & weighing up your pros and cons xx

QueenOfHiraeth · 19/09/2024 17:19

@MamaBearH It is also a concern of mine that MedExpress allow ordering without as many checks as some other providers, sometimes after only 2 weeks when the pen is 4-weekly.

I know it feels like reassurance to have a pen or two in hand and I ended up with one extra when I ordered a 10mg but then decided to stay on 7.5mg but I had to speak (webchat) with my provider to explain it and they sent a lot of information about side-effects and what to do next with the extra pen. If you were the type of person I am increasingly seeing on TikTok you could be reselling those or sharing them with someone who would, in a perfect world, not be taking it. Their systems should be strong enough to spot it

Snozzlemaid · 19/09/2024 17:20

ZAVA update - I placed my fourth order with them yesterday, early evening. It was approved at half eight this morning.
Royal Mail have now emailed to say they have my parcel which will be delivered by 1pm tomorrow!!
I've never had such a quick delivery.

I'm sticking with them at the moment as I have a couple of vouchers left to use but will move away when I approach a BMI of 30 so I don't have any problems getting it issued after that and with maintenance in mind.

MooFroo · 19/09/2024 18:28

Interesting reading about going up a dose

I’m on my taking my 3rd lot of 5mg, after 4 weeks on 2.5mg - lost around 7lbs since starting at the beginning of August. Im getting more suppression with this than on 2.5mg but not losing much.

Main side effects have been diorrhea and this awful support burps.

Would you recommend staying on 5mg or going up to 7.5mg to see if that makes a bigger difference in terms of loss?

thanks so much

Have you calculated your TDEE - 500 and are you logging calories? Aiming for 100g protein daily and drinking enough? If no to any of those I would do that first.
I'd be a little bit concerned about going up if you already have those side-effects on 5mg as they could worsen on a higher dose, particularly as sulphur burps show your GI tract is slowed by the MJ, but I understand your frustration and, if you are doing all of the above suggestions, it may be your only option.

Waspwine · 19/09/2024 19:39

Hi All,

things going well here but really really slowly. I seem to be hovering between 10.3 and 10.1 stone (started at 12.5.6 stone beginning of May) I’m 5ft1 and would like to be 9 stone (which is at the heavier end for my height I believe but I look and feel better above 8 stone). Still only my husband who knows.

im worried though because once I start to get towards the 25 BMI mark I’m not sure what my supplier does re maintenance (Pharmacy2U) I’m going to have a little google search now and see.

im currently on 8.5 as the jump to 10mg hit me like a train!!! So I came back down. I may go up to 9 tomorrow if my weight is still hovering, as suppression is less and side effects not as noticeable now, so I could chance it. I’ve also had lots of hair loss this month so need to up my vitamins I think and start eating a wider range of veg etc.

I also need to get some syringes for the extra dose but hate the thought of a longer needle!! Links to any syringes you find preferable would be great :)

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 19/09/2024 19:49

DP started his MJ journey 2 weeks ago, and has been admitted to hospital tonight with pancreatitis and complications.

Been trying to keep him in good spirits by turning it into dark humour that if we didn't have bad luck we'd have no luck at all, with a 0.2% chance of this happening, but just popping on as a precautionary tale I suppose.

Make sure you take any intense stomach pains seriously.

In true form to him though, stubborn as a mule, probably could have avoided complications if he'd just listened and gone to the hospital 4 days ago.

crochetmylifeaway · 19/09/2024 19:55

Evening everyone. Weighed this morning and I've lost 2lb. No wonder with the stomach problems I was having yesterday and most of today.

I'm never injecting in my leg again. I've a huge red mark still from injecting on Monday and the side effects are horrendous. Back to the stomach from next week.
