Has anyone found any insulin syringes with a needle shorter than 8mm? The thought of having a needle double the size of the one for my pen fills me with dread.

It will be bonus dose next week if I do. Big IF! lol

I've been wondering this too and am interested to see any replies. Also not sure on how to properly and safely draw the bonus dose safely with the needle so I might skip it.

KrankyKumquat · 11/09/2024 19:24

@LucyBnotG @MelainesLaugh
It's fine, honestly. You don't stick the needle in all the way, just roughly as far as the other needles. But at 45 degrees rather than straight. It's really easy to get meds out, just put needle in red plug and pull. Prime to get rid of any air. It's much more reliable than breaking the pen.

TheCyanMaker · 11/09/2024 19:36

@SquigletChocolatePotato I really hope you’re starting to feel better and as @QueenOfHiraeth mentioned do get yourself checked out. I will say that although the 2.5mg dose is touted as not being therapeutic there are a few of us who are super sensitive even to the lowest dose. I recall that at least one other person on here was extremely unwell when increasing to 5mg. It might be an idea to come back down to 2.5mg when you feel better, particularly as you mentioned you had a distinct lack of appetite with no side effects. I have been on this dose for 12 weeks and have lost over 30lbs. I did increase by a smidge about a month ago using the bonus dose and I was ill in bed for two days. I just started week 13 today and only very cautiously upped my dose to 2.75mg. Good luck and hope you improve quickly.

VioletsHeart · 11/09/2024 19:48

Seconding that the 8mm needles on insulin syringes are completely fine @MelainesLaugh and @LucyBnotG
I was similarly nervous about the idea of a much bigger needle but honestly they’re still tiny and v easy to use as @KrankyKumquat says.
I’ve not felt a thing.

Pinkyp22 · 11/09/2024 19:54

I know its asked many times, sorry.
__
Can anyone tell me how many clicks on a 7.5 pen to get 5mg please.
7.5 is just too much for me, I don't want to miss a dose, but definitely don't want to take another 7.5 dose.

QueenOfHiraeth · 11/09/2024 19:59

@LucyBnotG @MelainesLaugh As @KrankyKumquat said, the 8mm needles are really not a problem as you inject at 45 degrees, whereas the pen whacks straight in there.
From years of hearing about diabetic injections, I think they recommend you pinch a roll of flesh between the thumb and index finger of the other hand. Inject at 45 degrees into the roll, gradually letting go of the roll as you do
Technically you should not do an extra dose and should discard the extra but, as long as you have sterile needles (not the shitty ones off Amazon) or understand the "hard twist" may mean the accuracy of the dose may be iffy, it's a personal decision

Thank you so much

LucyBnotG · 11/09/2024 20:31

@VioletsHeart @KrankyKumquat Thank you for your advice re the bonus dose. That's helpful and I feel a little more confident now. I suppose a 5th dose would fall 28 days after the pen is opened so is still safe to use. I was looking at ordering the needles from a pharmacy. Is that where you bought yours?

JoyousSwan · 11/09/2024 20:53

I got mine from the pharmacy using one of the links on the info post on here. I was dreading it but it wasn't that bad. I used my bonus dose from my 2.5 pen last week and started on my 5 pen this week. Besides tiredness on the 1st day and stomach cramps on the 2nd morning I haven't really had any other side effects.

3wDavid · 11/09/2024 20:56

Hi everyone, quick check in from me - I am back from my two week family vacation, survived it and even…dare I say…enjoyed it?!
I enjoyed some drinks and treats but overall was good with the food, and made sure to swim and move every day.
I ate some crappy airplane food and didn’t drink enough water today but couldn’t wait and jumped on the scales as soon as I walked through the door and…5 lbs down! Absolutely delighted.
Also a big NSV, I am now “just” overweight on the BMI scale which I’ve not seen in a decade!
NSV2 - I placed a MedExpress order late last night, got an email it will be delivered tomorrow morning! 😄

WitchyBits · 11/09/2024 21:01

Quick check in.

I've literally just had my second 5mg jab so it's been 5 weeks on Mounjaro.

Sw. 17st 5lb
Cw. 16st 1lb

Total loss is 18lb

My BMI has gone from 39.2 to 36.3.

Total doesn't feel real! I'd like to be 14 stone on Christmas Eve.

MamaBearH · 11/09/2024 23:12

mjdle · 11/09/2024 13:45

Sorry if I've missed this, did a quick scan but couldn't see anything recent. Does anyone know who's doing cheapest 7.5? Need to do a med express price match so hoping someone has it at hand before I do the big trawl tonight 😁

How do you ask for a price match from MedExpress? They sent me an email about ordering my 7.5mg pen.

I just ordered 6mm off Amazon. Couldn't find any shorter but the ones I got sent for the pen are 5mm anyway so not a big difference.

That's very interesting!!!!

SilverHeels · 12/09/2024 07:05

Random shower thoughts this morning.

This medication imitates hormones that influence our physiology and behaviour.

When I was ovulating (and young) my mind was full of thoughts of cock and my behaviours changed as my body was craving sex.

Postpartum my thoughts and behaviours changed as my hormones had changed. It’s accepted that people have different sex drives amd that changes in time as it is hormone related.

It struck me that this medication shows that maybe people have different hormone levels that drive their physiology and behaviour and maybe people with a weight problem have a different hormone profile or reaction that drives the food noise and overeating. We all know that physiology changes with weight gain so this then compounds the problem.

I am hoping these meds and the studies coming out change the narrative that people are overweight through choice and that they need to move more and eat less.

SilverHeels · 12/09/2024 07:07

Another side effect is that the lack of food noise and reduced time spent shopping for / preparing/ eating food is giving me too much time to think

That’s fabulous, it’s all a bit surreal isn’t it. I’m shopping for new clothes like there’s no tomorrow!

Med express is so random! Last couple of orders have taken days to approve and almost a week from order to delivery. Im away at the weekend but need my new pen for next weds so decided to order this week as they still have all the delay warnings. Yesterday I messaged requesting my price match at 3.20, by 3.40 they had put the credit in my account. I ordered at 16.47, 4 day delay warning came up as expected, but at 18.45 I got the 'your order has been prescribed' email 😳 whilst I know it's odd to moan that a service is speedy, maybe they should wait till after it's been prescribed to let you choose delivery. There won't be anyone here to take my order if it comes at the weekend. I have emailed asking if they can delay it till next week - has anyone ever asked for that and been successful before?

WitchyBits · 12/09/2024 07:14

Does anybody know how you get the "recommend a friend and both get a discount " code with med express? My sister wants to try and tbh I could really do with the credit as the full price monthly fee will kill me.

After the screen above on Facebook there's still another three screens of warnings before you can actually get to the list of Facebook groups.
