@QueenOfHiraeth i was talking to a couple of the football mums today who were telling me they’re on semiglutide injections? Apparently they get them from a friend who does Botox, no prescription or anything. They were saying it’s much cheaper than mounjaro and easy to get? No idea what it is they’re taking, but they’ve got the suppression and weight loss etc

The stuff coming through non-prescribers may be semaglutide but it is not coming through regulated channels so there is no guarantee that the active ingredient is semaglutide, no guarantee it is sterile, no guarantee of the dose in there and certainly no guarantee that a beautician's medical knowledge would spot a patient for whom it is not clinically appropriate.
Many of these vials arrive in the UK labelled "For research purposes only" or even "Not for human use"
It really is a shameful situation

SilenceInside · 07/09/2024 22:06

In one case the vials contained insulin which is incredibly dangerous, can be lethal. Anyone buying these from a beautician is seriously deluded that it's safe. There's no oversight, no regulation, no comeback if there's a problem. And of course, it's illegal.

I think I'd probably make a comment about buying illegal drugs if anyone mentioned anything like that to me. And probably try to find out enough info to shop the beautician to the relevant authorities too.

Chasqui · 07/09/2024 22:25

Am finding trying on clothes at the back of the wardrobe very encouraging. Am back in some stuff I haven't been in for a few years, but didn't have the heart to chuck out.

@Lastchancefatty
I went to Alton Towers a while ago.... They have a ride Rita Queen Of Speed and outside it there is a dummy seat for you to try to ensure that you can fit in Rita (QOS).

I sat in this and with a deal of effort managed to do up the safety straps etc. Then went to get out and couldn't I was trapped because everything was too tight to unstrap.
Had to sit trapped in this dummy seat for 20 mins until 3 strapping lads managed to get me out.
Ironically they told me to go on the ride as the dummy was much smaller than the actual ride... they were right... but I will never forget the shame of being trapped in the tester while hundreds of people walked past.

Thank you so much for telling this story. I tried the tester seat and I fitted... Just. Got to the ride and it was smaller. After messing about I had to leave. I think it was worse because I wasn't expecting it not to fasten. Your story has made me feel better and my experience has made me even more determined that this will never happen to me again!

QueenOfHiraeth · 07/09/2024 20:09

So sorry you've had that @Lastchancefatty, I'm sure there's many of us share your upset. Sending you very un-Mumsnetty hugs Flowers
Just think you are on the way to this never happening again x

I'm getting quite concerned about the use of MJ at the moment. I have a friend started on it recently, getting through a known name pharmacy, but was showing me proudly her eating/calorie record which is over 1000cal deficit each day. I've reinforced she should eat more, better balanced, etc but know she won't.

I'm seeing more and more of this online and think there is a real danger of more regulation as the pharmacies only care about making money and not about long term health :(

Thank you so much. It is still on my mind but I'll get over it. I've never had that happen as the last time I went to a theme park in the UK was just after covid when I was another 2 stone lighter than now. It will be a while again so I know I'll be alright in future. I'm going off the rides somewhat anyway now. Too fierce for me now I'm getting older. My DC are old enough to go on while I sit with a book. Saw so many women sat reading 📖😊

Lastchancefatty · 08/09/2024 06:49

Ifyounevergiveup · 07/09/2024 20:24

I think a North East walk of shame is a different thing 😉 but anything shameful is horrid and whatever it is, I’m so sorry.

You, madame, are already a quarter of your way to your target weight. By all means look at the path ahead but also look behind at how far you’ve already come. Big love.

Thank you. Yes I did not look at it that way. I'll not be going to a theme park now until target. So I'll have a goodbye ride of everything and then settle for reading while my DC go on the rides because I'm getting too old 😁 And yes I know the other walk of shame and think I would have rather done that 🤣

guestusername · 07/09/2024 20:57

I think the walk of shame is a different thing in the South West too but @Lastchancefatty youve done brilliantly so far and next time you go, the only type of walk you’ll be doing it the head up, tits out walk!

That made me lol but I love it. Yes head up tits out all the way 😁

SnacklessWonder · 08/09/2024 07:42

Day 6 of the scales not budging, it's the most frustrating thing!

Melty · 08/09/2024 08:12

Update;
SW: 19st 10
W11: 17st 2
GW maybe 12.5 (ill see. )

BMI 36 down from 41
That makes a total of 2 stone 8lbs.
People at work starting to comment on how good I look/ how much weight I've lost.

Funny though, saw some family yesterday who I haven't seen for ages. 3 of them hugely hugely overweight.( and they have gained a good few stones since I saw them last) My slimmish cousin (who saw me first ) commented that I was looking great. The rest, not a dicky bird.

I'm under no illusions, I still have a way to go. But I was surprised because I look very different to when they last saw me.. They are not backwards in coming forwards usually.

Relieved too though as I would have been very self conscious. The work comments make me cringe inside and I get really embarrassed.
Some of it relating to shame of being so overweight and not deserving of praise for losing as I'm still fat and I'm "cheating" by using mounjaro.
The head stuff of obesity is hard to overcome.....

Aitchtee · 08/09/2024 08:12

I’ve just switched from zava to medexpress to save some money- but do medexpress send needles? Didn’t mention any in order

They send 4 needles and swabs.

BakingNana · 08/09/2024 08:22

SW 16st 4lb
CW 13st 4lb
GW 10st
Can hardly believe it, 3 stone gone in 10 weeks.
NSV size 16 jeans, haven’t fitted into a 16 in anything for a long time. They are Sainsbury’s barrel leg ones so generous in the thighs where I need a bit extra but I’ll take it. Having to stock up on clothes a bit as everything hanging off me and nothing apart from very fancy things left in the wardrobe in sizes that fit again.

Pinkyp22 · 08/09/2024 08:29

@SnacklessWonder have you considered weighing weekly? I don't own scales as I know I would become obsessed with weighing myself after many years of obsessive dieting.
I'm not saying you are obsessing, but perhaps not weighing every day might be good all round?
@Aitchtee I got 4 needles and 4 skin prep wipes with my last medexpress order

SnacklessWonder · 08/09/2024 09:09

I actually think weighing daily helps me more @Pinkyp22 because if my weight is still the same tomorrow (ie official weigh-in day) I can actually see that the weekly average is down so that will help me. ie I've been 10st 10lb for a week but my weekly average is down almost 3lb!

Choux · 08/09/2024 09:28

@Melty keep melting yourself away 😂. Your larger relatives would have noticed but to mention it would force them to face up to their own unhealthy choices so it's easier to ignore your weight loss.

@BakingNana 3st in 10 weeks is over 4lb weight loss a week which is much more than the recommended 1-2lbs a week most diets advocate. Are you eating enough? Eating protein?

Remember the goal isn't to race to a lower weight as fast as possible, it's to become healthier. Fast weight loss can cause you to lose muscle instead of fat and the lack of nutrients can cause other side effects like hair loss and fatigue.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 08/09/2024 09:35

Morning all. Just thought I would share my weekly results.

SW 214.8lbs (15st 4.8)
CW 182lbs (13st exactly)
GW 10 stone something

I lost 3.8lbs last week which is almost exactly what I lost in the whole of August. I've also just done my second jab of 7.5 so I think the dose increase has kick started the losses again.

I'm feeling post jab side effects but the results keep me motivated.

BakingNana · 08/09/2024 09:37

@Choux thanks for your concern. Absolutely eating enough, and protein levels high. Lost 1st stone in about 2 weeks and it's tapered down to between 2 and 3 pounds a week. Staying on 7.5 for next pen as have had some side effects and will be away when starting next one.

Choux · 08/09/2024 09:42

Great to hear you are being careful to eat well and taking wise decisions about staying on 7.5mg so your side effects have time to settle down. You must be buzzing from your swift progress! Keep looking after yourself and enjoy the journey.

Fromthesidelines · 08/09/2024 09:49

Funny old week. First shot of 10 (from 7.5 bonus dose) and experienced serious suppression for the first time. Really struggled to eat for three days but, on the plus side, did lose a couple of pounds to hit the 12 and a half stone mark - one of my mini milestones.
The last couple of days, while suppression has been good, I've been able to get back to my usual 1200 calories. Healthy low carbs, focus on protein and veg.
Weigh in today and back to 12st 9 which is where I was last Sunday. Not constipated. Well past hormones. No reason to be water weight. Grrrr!

mm81736 · 08/09/2024 09:57

This week was the last on 2.5mg , but on day 6 amd 7 I experienced the most awful pain in the upper right abdowm side and back and felt so sick and unable yo eat.As it happened at the end of the week, I have been drinking loads of water and am starting to feel better.i am inclined to think it may not be MJ related.
I am really not sure what to do today? Whether to continue at 2.5, go up to 5 or just give my insides a little longer to recover?

JamieFrasersSassenach · 08/09/2024 10:01

Have you used your bonus dose from your 2.5mg pen @mm81736 ?

I got just over 2.5mg out of my bonus which is a good way of very slightly increasing prior to jumping up to 5mg. Or you could just increase to 3.75mg with your new pen to begin?

Could be gallbladder pain. Drink plenty of fluids and stay on the lower dose for now is my advice.

susiedaisy1912 · 08/09/2024 10:14

My weight is stalling at the moment I've just over 3 stones but stayed the same for the last 2 weeks and feeling a bit deflated so I decided to do some body measurements to see what progress I've made. I've lost a total of 25 inches from my body since I started MJ at beginning of April. It has spurred me on to keep going. I'm still wearing the same clothes but they are getting a lot baggier. Well done to everyone on their losses and Nsv's
