Hi all,

Thought I would start a thread for those that started quite early on and would like a space to chat with others that started around the same time. Like the threads that are dedicated to those starting in May, June, July etc thought it would be nice to have a space for people have have been on for similar amount of time.

Thanks so much for this thread and the invite @ObsidianTree, I was really struggling to keep up with the other one, and didn't seem to recognise names any more!

I've no idea of my weight at the mo and sadly have to temporarily stop MJ. I was taken in for emergency surgery to try to remove any small remaining pieces of mesh, as I was very poorly and heading for sepsis.

All seems to have gone OK, but they'll be keeping me in until they're sure it's had the desired effect. Thankfully been moved out of intensive care last night to step down (bit like HDU), so I have some reception now. I really don't know what I'll do re food though, I usually bring in protein shakes etc and use the kitchen, but different ward so I can't do that. I don't exaggerate when I say the food's horrific in here, I'd literally rather never eat again than subject myself to that. 🤢

Hoping everyone's doing well, congrats to those who've lost or hit targets and good luck to everyone.

Let's hope this works and I won't be in here too long. 🤞

I'm really sorry to hear this, how are you feeling?

Different circumstances but I had sepsis in 2019 and it was so traumatic, you have my complete sympathy.

Do you know where you'll be at after you've recovered from this surgery? Were they able to remove everything that was left? I hope so. I know you've been going through the mill for ages with all of this, in and out of hospital constantly.

Don't feel like you have to stop posting whilst you're on a break from MJ. I would definitely like to hear how you're getting on and I'm certain I'm not alone!

Thinking of you and sending good wishes x

Thank you so much. I won't be disappearing! You guys are all I have to keep me going other than daughter and carer.

The surgery was almost 7 hours, they were thorough and got everything they could find, some literally only mm's long but apparently can make all the difference. I'm already feeling much better, so everything crossed.

As for where I will end up, it's wait and see. As you know it was an infection that I could never get rid of, became resistant to too many antib's. Hopefully removing any remnants will help my body kick it into touch, that's the idea anyway. Other options long term are permanent IV antib's or a wooden box. 🙄

But things looking much better than they have for a while, so am trying to stay positive. Nurses bringing daughter to see me later, so something to look forward to. 😄

I've put on 2lb this week FFS 😑
Wasn't expecting it to be so bad - I think that's the most I've put on in one go through this 6mth journey.

@MelissaLouRocks sorry to hear you're in hospital again. Hope you can make your escape as soon as possible 💐

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I'm sure the 2lbs will all come off next week, hopefully with a little extra. 😁

@MelissaLouRocks this sounds nightmarish - I’m so sorry this has happened to you and please god they got all that bastard mesh out of you. I think a Tesco order might be a good idea. How has it come to it that hospital food is so inedible that we need grocery orders when we are inpatients. It’s shameful.

Thanks so much. I had 2 major ops to remove it originally, I was told they narrowly avoided me bleeding out with the second, so at least I'm still here. It's about time we got a bloody compensation scheme from govt though!

I've done a Tesco order for both myself and daughter, as she'll be in a few days. At least I'll have something if I want it.

KeepingUndercover · 16/08/2024 14:36

Really hope they have got enough out now @MelissaLouRocks, the mesh scandal is so awful. Fingers crossed this is the start of things getting better.

AgathaMystery · 16/08/2024 15:01

Amen to the compensation scheme. When you think how evangelical medics were about that mesh. Jesus Christ.

spamm · 16/08/2024 15:19

Hello all. Weigh in day for me again, and I continue my slow and steady trend. Down 43 lbs, down 1lb this week. I am on my 3rd box of 10mg.

I have contacted my doctor and asked to go up to 12.5 to see if I can accelerate a little bit. I think 10mg is working well as a potential maintenance dose, but I still need to lose a few lbs to get to a healthy weight.

I have my DS at home from uni and a lot of crappy things going on in my life, which is making it harder to keep the focus on my health. At the same time, it is pretty amazing that MJ allows me to continue to focus on my health and I have not just resorted to bad food and wallowing in pity eating.

Going to catch up on the thread and will be back to say hi! properly.

RagzRebooted · 16/08/2024 16:01

@MelissaLouRocks nice to 'see' you here but sorry you're back in hospital, though hopefully they've actually done some good for you in the long run. Definitely should be some compensation, I hope it happens eventually.

I'm feeling a bit less rubbish today, after spiking a temperature again last night (pretty sure I did have COVID, no idea where from as no one else is ill) and sleeping about 12 hours. I have managed to eat more today, still nauseous but not quite as bad as yesterday.

Thank you, so sorry to hear you're under the weather too.

Hope you feel better soon, make sure you rest plenty and keep your fluids up. 💐

Thanks so much for your best wishes @AgathaMystery and @KeepingUndercover

@MelissaLouRocks So sorry to hear your update, although glad that you're feeling better already.

I don't know which part of the country you're in but if you're near me I could bring you some of the Vilgain protein shakes that you recommended. I don't have a full tub left but have about half and am about to order more.

That's so kind, thank you so much. My carer has kindly said she'll bring some things in tomorrow, and I've asked she add them to the list. I'm so grateful for the needs though. 💐

spamm · 16/08/2024 18:35

@MelissaLouRocks - please let me know if I can Amazon you anything? I have no idea if Uk hospitals would accept Amazon deliveries, but happy to try it!

In a new NSV, I have been able to take off my engagement ring for the first time in forever - and had it serviced. It has been replated in white gold and the diamond reseated and looks like new. The jewellers said I was lucky because the prongs holding the diamond had really eroded over the last 20+ years and I could have lost the stone. I cannot stop looking at the sparkle.

KeepingUndercover · 16/08/2024 18:59

Oh that's lovely @spamm. I bet it looks fabulous.

I lost my wedding and engagement ring (no idea how) and was going to get new ones but then started this and decided to wait as I didn't want them to immediately get too big. I keep being asked when I want to go shopping for them and I've no idea whether to wait until I'm at goal. How much weight can you lose off fingers anyway?

FlappyFish · 16/08/2024 19:54

Evening all!

Sorry you’re back in hospital @MelissaLouRocks though glad to hear you’re recovering. What an ordeal you’ve had.

No news here. Maintaining at 9.12 actually feel too skinny as I’m so untoned. Oh well. That’s coming.

Wonkypictureframe · 16/08/2024 19:58

I bought Renpho scales yesterday when I hit BMI 24 as I think the next stage needs to be more muscle. How humbling they are. Some decent stats, and my metabolic age is only two more than my actual, but my body fat still sits firmly in obese and my subcutaneous fat is way higher than I’d like too. Not a huge surprise as I can see for myself that I still have plenty of fat, and quite motivating.

KrankyKumquat · 16/08/2024 20:39

Evening all!
Just to update you re maintenance. There was a live webinar tonight with the prescriber from Oushk, Hira.
Firstly, the 2 year limit for MJ has gone, officially.
Oushk is about to launch 3 different maintenance plans, each for 3 months, rolling over for as long as wanted by the patient. Payment monthly. Consultations triggered at each stage and as frequently as patient wants. Patients can swap in and out of plans at 3 mo if things change.
The first will be maintenance at final dose, whatever that happens to be
The second, a tapering down plan for those who want to come off after 3 months
Third, a simple plan to keep patient on their prescribing list so, once they come off at below BMI 25, they can start again if they want. £20 per month
Plans will be 15% off usual price of pen and no postage .
Will take on new customers to join subscription plan but only if above BMI 25.
Sorry this is a bit garbled but taking notes during webinar and going a bit quick!

KrankyKumquat · 16/08/2024 20:46

Anyway it all looks pretty good. I'm sure other prescribers will do similar but Hira seems to be ahead of the curve on all this. Plans have been approved by Lily already. So good news for those of us who don't want to come off any time soon. Happy to answer questions if I've missed something vital!

AgathaMystery · 16/08/2024 20:49

@KrankyKumquat this is so incredibly interesting….thanks so much for this info. Did with think Oushk was not quite legit? I can’t remember.

@AgathaMystery No that was Curate who Hira does some prescribing for while they get their registrations set up. No scandals with Oushk-I'm very happy with my move to them last month from Medexpress. They do regular discounts - there's currently a 15% off one but don't agree with patients chasing to get new customers signed up to get discounts, which I don't either - too much like pyramid selling in my view.

KrankyKumquat · 16/08/2024 20:59

She also confirmed there are no 15mg pens in the UK with expiry later than Oct so didn't advise people get these early to stockpile. She doesn't think we'll get single dose pens and if we did they'd be £300 like they are in US - they're much more expensive so spreading doses during maintenance to fortnightly or more will still be restricted by the 30 day rule - hence it's not in their subscription plans.

CiderJabs · 16/08/2024 23:08

@KrankyKumquat that's very interesting and helpful. Thank you.
I think overall the 7.5s are the best for a low dose maintenance at the moment as they expire in April and you won't go much over the 30 days if you take less.

Wonkypictureframe · 16/08/2024 23:35

Thanks, @KrankyKumquat . That does sound really interesting. But it will only be available to existing users - you won’t be able to transfer into it?

I’m assuming there’s a chance my BMI will edge back over 25 after my holiday that starts next week so I might be able to jump in!

izzy2076 · 17/08/2024 07:15

Such good news re 2 year limit! It looked so hopeless just a couple of months ago with people being kicked off at 25bmi.

Yes im not holding out much hope for the single dose pen. It would be at American prices, which would defeat the object. I think we could get away with stretching the dose to every ten days max but no more.
