Hi all,

Thought I would start a thread for those that started quite early on and would like a space to chat with others that started around the same time. Like the threads that are dedicated to those starting in May, June, July etc thought it would be nice to have a space for people have have been on for similar amount of time.

Nice to see the OGs back together 🤣

@Mortigua sorry coming off MJ didn't work out. What dose did you get to before stopping? Did you go cold turkey? How quickly did the hungry come back? How did it feel? Sorry for all the qs!

@NextPrimeMinister MJ has been a game changer for sure. It's weird but, when I first started, I already knew it was going to work!

@yorkypuds definitely one great thing about MJ is that you don't want to give up 😊

@SocksShmocks glad it's going well so far. Sounds like you're ready for 12.5mg. Over 3st loss so far is great though 🙂

@BlackFriYay amazing progress. You've done so well 😊 at least there are some good maintenance options available now. Do you plan to stay on MJ for maintenance?

izzy2076 · 11/08/2024 16:30

For those of us who have to come off it, I don't think it's catastrophic in the way it would be pre mounjaro. I've been reading a lot about micro dosing and cycling it for maintenance. I know our prescribers may not be on board with that just yet but at the very least you would have an option of going back on it for a bit if you start to gain. I'm pretty sure our prescribers wouldn't make us wait until we're BMI30 for this to happen as we have a history.

ObsidianTree · 11/08/2024 16:32

@izzy2076 and @Stickthatupyourdojo let's hope they get rid of the rule of only 2 years on MJ! I know what you mean about not wanting to come off. So much research on all the other benefits of MJ, not just weight loss. I don't want to stop ever!

izzy2076 · 11/08/2024 16:37

@ObsidianTree some of the pharmacies have already said they wouldn't implement the 2 year rule.

Scalessayeek · 11/08/2024 16:41

Hey everyone! Lovely to catch up with the OG’s- I get lost on the latest threads (and a bit annoyed at the repeat questions when the answers are pinned 🫣) Definitely slowing down on the weight loss but I’m going to the gym four times a week and I think it may be muscle and toning up now. Started at 21st 4 officially at the end of Feb and scales are 15st 13 now. I’m on my second 7.5mg pen and will be using a 10mg next but not sure if I’ll count clicks and continue on 7.5 seeing as it’s doing its job.

I’ll be dosing until Feb next year at the earliest , 18 months at most and then hoping to slowly decrease if prescribers allow. I doubt I’ll have the worries of a low bmi like most to be honest! But there is the two year rule for now.

Pictures for reference although in my head I don’t look that different. (Hubby did point out I’m much closer in the after picture which makes me look bigger I suppose)

That's amazing!

I'm still with Zava who don't support maintenance! I do need to attempt to move suppliers before I get to healthy BMI!

I know Med Express and bolt support maintenance. What are the other places? And ones that go beyond 2 years?

Thanks 😊

hi girls - great idea @ObsidianTree - a much needed old timers thread!!

if anyone had any thoughts on Berberine let me know as I’m in a country that heavily uses and advertises it. I’m intrigued!!

NextPrimeMinister · 11/08/2024 16:48

@Scalessayeek you look like half the person before! (In the nicest way 😂).

Amazing progress.

My 'before' photo is me wearing a really grotty pair of pj's, not sure this thread is ready to see that!

ObsidianTree · 11/08/2024 16:50

@Scalessayeek amazing progress 😊 you look a lot less than 15st 🙂

EsotericMnemonic · 11/08/2024 16:51

Thanks for the thread @ObsidianTree , great to see how you and some others who originally inspired me to start are doing.

@Scalessayeek Thats an incredible difference!!! Well done!!

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced side effects for the whole time and is looking forward to not taking it? I’m still exhausted for a couple of days following the jab, and recently had some random vomiting a few days after. Nausea is still very present. I really appreciate Mounjaro as a tool to help me do something I can’t otherwise do, but am looking forward to not needing it (or perhaps just needing a much lower maintenance dose that doesn’t make me feel bad).

Stickthatupyourdojo · 11/08/2024 16:51

@Scalessayeek you look incredible!!!

@AgathaMystery I'm going to order berberine. I'm hoping even if it is just a placebo effect now I know how well MJ has worked the whole ritual of taking something for weight loss may assist. A lot cheaper as well.

I've just placed an order for another pen with medexpress. I told myself I wouldn't, I have put it on the credit card as I didn't budget for MJ this month which is a bit naughty , I haven't ordered since the end of June so I'm hoping they say yes. Pray for me!

izzy2076 · 11/08/2024 16:52

@ObsidianTree there's a thread on Reddit called mounjaro maintenance UK and it's all on there.

spamm · 11/08/2024 16:59

Hello all. Nice to see the old gang back together. Thank you @ObsidianTree!

I started before all of you, as I am in the US. First jab on 12 Jan, but I could not find my tribe on the US sites. Came to MN and thought I would be stuck with the Wegovy peeps and then you started the first thread. I am so grateful as it can be lonely.

I am more slow and steady over the last 6 months, but that is probably as much the result of my age and my type 2 diabetes, for 10+ years. I have gone from 202 lbs to 159lbs, a BMI of 27.2. Still a little way to go, but I am on the case, which is the real difference with MJ. My blood sugar is normal - which is totally mind blowing, and my blood pressure is also normal for the first time since I was 15 years old.

I was the one who had lots of challenges obtaining doses (and paid a lot of money for them until my insurance kicked in). I am now about to start my 3rd month of 10mg, as my doctor does not want me to risk low blood sugar, but I think I will ask to titrate up next box and see if I can accelerate the loss a little.

I have gone down in clothes size from UK 20 to 16 (which are getting big in me) and everyone making comments. Apparently I look younger - which is nice, and my metabolic age is getting closer to my real age. My fitness score on my Fitbit is increasing too. I have started Pilates and love it.

KeepingUndercover · 11/08/2024 17:01

@EsotericMnemonic I've definitely been feeling like that this week! Just thinking "god, I'd really like a break". Weeks I've not had side effects I'm ok. But even then sometimes I would just like to be able to indulge a bit. Not massively overeat, but say have a 3 course meal and eat it all. Just occasionally.

CormorantStrikesBack · 11/08/2024 17:09

Ohhawtdang · 11/08/2024 15:13

Hi all.

I started in late april. Started at 14.10

I’ve lost 2st 5 but it’s been painfully slow for around 5/6 weeks now- maybe 1lb pw at best. All side effects have subsided and I feel basically no effect at all.

im stepping up to 7.5this week. I need another 1.5-2st and had somewhat naively assumed that was achievable by September but that’s out the window!

any thoughts?

Hey you are doing better than me.

i started end of April at 91.6kg and was 82.3kg today. Which I think is 19lbs. So I’m losing just over 1lb a week which is terrible. But I just keep plodding. I’ve always gone up to the next mg pen as soon as I can, so currently on 10mg. I’m still hungry a lot of the time.

i get no side effects, no nausea, can still stuff my face without side effects. I had a whole pizza in pizza express last weekend and some doughballs. Felt fine!

bouper · 11/08/2024 17:11

Great thread. I started on the last day of March, so it's been 19 weeks and I've lost 21lbs. I'm only 5'3 and currently weigh 13st6, so still a fair bit to lose.
I'm on 7.5 at the moment, should really have gone up to 10, but I'm away lots over the summer and didn't want to risk side effects. I have good appetite suppression, it's clearly just hard for me to lose weight, I'm sure being 50 and perimenopausal doesn't help.

BlackFriYay · 11/08/2024 17:13

@ObsidianTree I'd definitely like to stay on it for a while for maintenance purposes, although how long that'll be and what dose long term I don't know. As of right now my plan is to reduce to 7.5 after this 10mg, then down again to 5mg all being well.

I'm going to have a chat with MedEx and see what they suggest. I'd like to start redirecting my spare £ to a tummy tuck fund in the not so distant future so I'll have to have a proper think about timelines now!

I didn't expect to be here so soon, it seems to have flown by, and like our fellow OG Flappy said, my brain is still playing catch up with my eyes 😂

@Scalessayeek You look fantastic! What an amazing difference that is. I also want to say I absolutely LOVE the Cupid Ragan and L&Y in general. I have the same one (currently waiting for my exchange as I needed to size down)

You have spectacular style if i do say so myself 😁

KeepingUndercover · 11/08/2024 17:14

@Scalessayeek you definitely look much smaller in the after photo, you've done brilliantly. I know what it's like though. I was a size 24 when I started and I'm now an 18. In my head I feel I should look tiny because I've lost a lot, but I don't because I'm still a size 18! It does get me down sometimes, especially unflattering photos where I think I just look as big as ever.

ObsidianTree · 11/08/2024 18:02

@KeepingUndercover that's how I feel also. I'm a size 16 now. I'm slimmest I've been in 12 years... Yet I don't feel like I look slimmer yet. I have been feeling a bit down recently that I've lost so much but still feel like I have a way to go to look and be slim. Each time I see myself on the ring doorbell I'm reminded that I still look big. But we'll get there!

Mortigua · 11/08/2024 18:26

Just to answer about coming off and why it didn’t work for me (not had a full read so will come back later too). I felt no diffenrce for a week or so then suddenly was starving! Like totally starving ! And tried to manage it but it was like I couldn’t stop - I’d forgotten how well controlled it was and hadn’t been able to imagine that while on it .
i had got to 7.5 so I haven’t lost much time wise but I can’t seem to find enough motivation at the moment mainly because of school holidays . I need to up my exercise, plan food and drink a lot less wine ! So it’s easy to see how it happened when my food went back up to what it must have been before . It came straight off again quickly so I’m now at 13.5 (from 14.10 in feb ) but I’ve got 2 to go. I feel better on it than not so there is that too. I have had no side effects going back on it (straight to 5mg after about 3 or 4 weeks off )

izzy2076 · 11/08/2024 18:51

@Mortigua how do you feel better on it than off? What were the noticeable differences besides the hunger?

Moanranger · 11/08/2024 19:32

Hi all. Just responding to @ObsidianTree pm.

Well done to all of the Pioneers! To continue support during maintenance will be critical and with intention, let us hope we can avoid the re-gain problem.

So I started 1 April at 85 kg (13st 6lb) and am now at 74.7 kg. (11st 9lb) Plateauing ATM.I am now on my second pen of 5mg, and I lost most of the weight on 2.5. I have good suppression, but I need to keep cals very low to lose, so it is slow. We went out for a birthday meal this week and while I didn't eat a lot, it was carby, so no loss this week.

My interim goal is 71kg (11st 1lb) but that is a BMI of 27.5, so I could go lower. I am fairly relaxed about staying on this for two years, getting to a healthy BMI and then maintaining. It may be the end of the year before I achieve the BMI goal (e.g below 25)
Re the two year rule, If you recall the CNN article on weight stalls (I think thread 18 or 19) it was very interesting and stated categorically that after two years you wont lose any more. (this may be where the pharma rule comes from). Basically it said that there was an appetite feedback loop that for every pound lost the body craved a certain excess number of calories. Hence as you lost weight, your appetite increases. MJ takes the edge off of this, but does not solve this fundamental metabolic problem.

Most of my side effects are gone. I tend to have a bout of insomnia the day after injection, but constipation no longer a problem. The tiredness issue persists, which makes me reluctant to increase. If I really stall, I will go up to 7.5 soon. Watch this space.

KeepingUndercover · 11/08/2024 19:35

I'm so far from having to worry about maintenance that I've not even thought about it. I'm in this long term!

CiderJabs · 11/08/2024 19:36

Thanks for the heads up @ObsidianTree. I started in March back in thread 1. I was 12.02 stone and today I'm 9.12. I'm titrating down. Was on 2.5 for 3 weeks but went up to 3.75 again as im now on holiday for 2 weeks (no pen with me). Sort of trying to maintain and sort of hoping to lose a couple more pounds. I'm short so my bmi is still 23.6.
Some days I'm certain I can do it on my own and some days I panic I'll gain it back. It's a right mind fuck if you ask me

EsotericMnemonic · 11/08/2024 19:56

@KeepingUndercover yes! That too! When I’ve lost weight in the past I’ve still been able to make a conscious decision to go out and have a big meal and some wine or cocktails. I miss that.
