Hi all,

Thought I would start a thread for those that started quite early on and would like a space to chat with others that started around the same time. Like the threads that are dedicated to those starting in May, June, July etc thought it would be nice to have a space for people have have been on for similar amount of time.

@KeepingUndercover I was doing well with tracking all calories but I'm now on day 172 and I'm pretty fed up of it 😂.
The last couple of weeks I've been barely logging anything I eat.

NextPrimeMinister · 12/08/2024 16:11

I worry too about maintenance (once off mj completely). My main learning is portion size and not snacking or eating on an evening. What I actually eat has remained the same, apart from lunches.

CiderJabs · 12/08/2024 16:13

I'm also considering leaving the main thread and hanging out here instead. It's impossible to keep up and you don't know who is who. This feels like old times :)

Reading about weight gain and hunger coming back with a vengeance has also worried me. I like healthy stuff but I have a huge appetite. I also exercise a lot so that is not an issue. But I can eat for England.

As I said on the main thread, myself and DP are doing it together. He's heavier than me only because he's tall but he's got no fat left in him. We have two full 7.5 pens waiting dor us so if we decide to do 2.5 every week that will give us 15 weeks and finish just before Xmas. I don't know how I feel about that. A small part of me keeps thinking I should get one more pen (but the last two were already meant to be the buffer ones!) but deep down I know I'll have to brave it solo sooner or later.

AgathaMystery · 12/08/2024 16:28

Howdy all - I can’t see this 2 sizes smaller photo everyone is raving about - can anyone please repost it for me so I can also admire & congratulate?!

Managed 4 laps of the pool this morning (I’m so unfit) and will go for a run tomorrow. It’s hot here. 32-38 degrees so physical activity takes some effort.

This is the first time in about 4yrs we have a ‘do nothing’ holiday and I hadn’t realised how desperately we needed it - especially DH. I also need to up my messing about in the pool game with DC, instead of reading 10yrs worth of vogue that I just found 🤗

in other news I did jab 6 of 7.5mg yesterday and no suppression yet - but due to time differences etc I was about a day late and it’s thrown me a bit. Also likely I need to increase my dose I guess.

ObsidianTree · 12/08/2024 16:29

Been working in London today so only just catching up now.

@CiderJabs I know what you mean. This thread feels so nice seeing all the familiar names 😊

@PissedOffNeighbour22 I also don't think I'm eating that great. I struggle with salads and veg. I'll buy a load, have plans to eat them/cook them etc, but most of it remains in the veg drawer until I find it all gone off and squishy! I also eat carbs as I wanted to eat as normally as possible. I've still lost weight, but do need to work on my veg intake. I like fruit but I always leave it for the kids. As it's expensive I want them to have it. Weird way to look at it! I should eat it too! So I worry I'll struggle with diet once in maintenance. I probably will try to stay on MJ for as long as possible!

Lovely to see all the family names 😊

Oh, I also make all these plans to go to the gym but yet again I haven't signed up! Excuse this month is the expense of the kids uniforms! Maybe I'll wait until I'm in maintenance to join the gym!

AgathaMystery · 12/08/2024 16:50

@ObsidianTree im the same with fruit sometimes - I like to have it with Greek yogurt and granola in the mornings. I think I will move to frozen fruit for this as it won’t make much difference to the taste but it will make a difference financially.

I’m realising how lucky we are in the U.K. - yes, our food is expensive, but here, where we are staying for a month (DH working out here) healthy food is OUTRAGEOUSLY pricey. Fresh fruit and veg is only affordable if I buy it at roadside shacks, which is fine and I’m happy to do. Otherwise, it’s cheaper to buy a KFC for 4 people than it is to buy a watermelon grown down the road (if I go to the supermarket).

KeepingUndercover · 12/08/2024 16:58

I've not given up carbs but I find some carb heavy meals much harder to eat since Mounjaro. Especially if it's just carbs. Gnocchi and sauce or filled pasta and sauce is a easy dinner for us but I find it really hard to stomach now. Although at the weekend my DH made himself a packet ramen thing, which was just carbs and chemicals, and to my queasy stomach it tasted like heaven. So it's definitely not all carbs!

With veg, I find it easier to buy small amounts at a time as and when rather than loading my fridge. If I load the fridge inevitably plans shift and whatever I was going to make doesn't happen. I do usually try and always have salad & protein for lunch. It's not always very exciting salad but I was trying to get out of the sandwich & crisps rut I was in pre mj.

pinktransit · 12/08/2024 17:04

Oops - posted this on the continuing thread by mistake 😊 Have reported that one, so it might disappear from there. Not worried either way, just proving that menopause brain is a thing...

Thanks for this thread @ObsidianTree - it is nice to have a space for those of us that have been here for a while.

I started MJ on the 28th March, so have now taken 20 doses. Currently on 7.5mg, my next pen is a 10mg, but I might stick at 7.5 for a while. See how it goes.
I was at 12.6.6 stone on 28/3, but had lost about half a stone before that.
Currently at 10 stone, which was my original interim target, aiming for 9 1/2 stone next.
I'm 5'3", so almost 13 stone was a lot.
BMI is 24.8, so within normal range. I did weigh in unofficially over the weekend, and there was a 9 at the beginning of the number. Last time that happened was 2013. I hit 10st in 2017 for my daughter's wedding, but have been gaining since. Menopause (I'm 55) has been a weight disaster, MJ does seem to have turned that around. Wish it would do something for the brain fog!
I'm hoping to stay on it for a while for maintenance, and really hoping that the high protein regime will work while I titrate down.
People are now noticing - I went out at the weekend wearing a VERY flattering pair of skinny jeans and boots, and got a lot of comments, from friends, neighbours, and my family a couple of weeks ago. If asked, I'm saying that it's a high protein, lowish carb diet - I don't mention MJ. It does feel a bit deceitful, but I am counting calories and macros, and logging food daily, so it's not untrue. I've told a couple of people, but only good friends who also struggle with weight.

Yes that's true really. Our fruit is actually quite cheap so I shouldn't see it as only a luxury for the kids!

I'm another one who isn't a big fan of veg.

I don't mind a salad providing it includes a decent dressing but I cannot relate to people who eat carrot sticks, love avocados etc.

I'm much better with fruit but then I would be wouldn't I? Sugar 🐷 😂

Exitstrategist · 12/08/2024 18:35

Hi all! One of the originals- been here since March and still going strong! I am quite a slow loser but I have lost two stone in total. Only 3kg left to go. I think I am going to keep on higher doses of MJ until a month or two after goal as I am petrified of it all going on again. I have been down this road before with ozempic (although only lost one stone). I got married on Saturday and felt so happy in my dress- a size 12! However we uploaded some photos and there were some from last summer that I wish I hadn’t seen. I look like a totally different person and completely miserable. For the first time in years I am feeling like my old self. I am so pleased I came across all you folk last march as I never thought I would see the old me re emerging. Holiday for 11 days on Saturday- taking the flab jab with me- I will not fall off the wagon- promise!

I started at 120kg and today I was 92kg. It's been 22 weeks. I've suddenly had a lot of people notice after nobody really saying anything for ages. The other week loads of people I see at a weekly club said "oh my god, you've lost a ton of weight". Funny that everyone noticed it all of a sudden.

@KeepingUndercover You and I are another set of MJ twins. We must have started at about the same time, within a week of each other I'd say. Same weight then and currently the same too 💪😄

I can't remember if it was MN that spurred me on or somewhere else but I've been reading the threads from the start and they've been so helpful.

I love that this is now a new way of being. It's so easy, I don't over eat, can easily say no to junk food etc. I'm definitely not perfect and could do with a few more leafy greens in my diet but overall what an improvement.

I still have a way to go, hoping to be done by Christmas, then give my body some time to settle before deciding if I need to think about any sort of cosmetic surgery. I definitely have a bit of chicken neck, but I've looked rubbish for so many years already, it would need to be very very bad to consider doing something about it.

A huge thanks to you, @ObsidianTree and your other OG sidekicks for keeping the groups going.

MJqueen · 12/08/2024 18:47

@montysma1

What an interesting observation about your watch strap. I got a smart watch recently and have been worried about getting a rash as I did last time I wore one 6-7 years ago which is the main reason why I stopped. But nothing so far with this. Granted it's only been a month but let's see.

FlappyFish · 12/08/2024 19:28

After my post early about no exercise I’ve done it. Our local gym was knocked down and rebuilt and… I’m now a member.

I can make time for exercise. Actually it will stop me playing crap games on my phone and being at the beck and call. I am not as busy as I like to pretend. I can do 90% of my job on my phone email and it’s super flexible.

Now I need to go. Actually, I confess I am doing this with a friend. One who I got on to MJ… we’ve known each other since we were 11.

I need to get a swimming costume that fits. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yay.

yorkypuds · 12/08/2024 19:44

So after grumbling to myself about slow weightloss, I decided I would calorie count!
Ha ha realise how deluded I was. I am definitely eating significantly less, but it has been quite an eye opener as to how many calories I am still eating. I had rebelled against the slimming world high carb model that has failed me over the last 20 years. But maybe enjoying the full fat Greek yoghurt, cheeses, mayonnaise and little too much!
It made me realise how many changes I still need to make!

CiderJabs · 12/08/2024 19:46

I have an everyone active membership and I get two free guest passes per month. If anyone has one nearby and wants to try it let me know.

I started going there when I was 14-7 stone and I was made to feel so welcome and always supported. I've now made many friends and the gym is almost my second home. It's also what helps me relax from work and life in general.
@ObsidianTree some fb stalking tells me we live fairly close to each other - in case you're looking for a gym buddy 👀

montysma1 · 12/08/2024 19:47

@MJqueen It really is weird. I had to cover my watch strap in tape to keep it off my skin. Otherwise big weeping welts. If a tiny bit of strap got through the tape......whoosh!
Since first MJ.......nothing.
Have taken all the tape off .

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin thank you, yes it was me wondering if other people who have been on MJ for this long still get side effects. I’m lucky I have a fairly flexible job, there are things I can do at pretty much any time of my choosing. If I had to do 9-5 in an office, I might have been sacked by now. The exhaustion is still just something else.
Good to know that cyclizine is effective for nausea. Unfortunately I can’t take it due to my hypothyroidism. If anyone knows of any other anti nausea medication being prescribed I’d love to know about it!
Am so chuffed to read about everyone’s successes, so great to see that some of you are off MJ and maintaining. I dream of the day when I’m not exhausted for a third of the time. Anyone got plans for what they’ll do with the money they’re not spending on MJ when they’re done with it?

Tracking calories is a real eye opener isn't it. I don't know how people loose weight without counting them. My portion sizes were way off until I started tracking everything. My biggest culprits were dairy, mayo and olive oil. The 'splash' of milk I put in my tea turned out to be 70-80mls each time. 🤦‍♀️

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 12/08/2024 10:59

Thanks for the link @ObsidianTree - I didn't realise it has been so long since we started. Almost 6 months!

I started in February at 15st 11lb and I'm now 11st. Almost 5st off and I'm still fat 🫣.

Some good milestones - I've lost all my pregnancy weight, I'm thinner than my DP has ever seen me, lighter than I've been for around 8yrs (but that was a short lived weight), lost more than the combined weight of both my kids, have dropped from a size 20/22 to 12/14 and dropped from bmi 40 to 27. The last time I was consistently this weight was 2012.

I'd love to weigh less than my DP but I do like the size I am now. It feels like 'me' if you know what I mean. I still have an apron overhang and bingo wings - both of which make that awful flab-clapping sound if I move too fast 🫢. My boobs are knackered too which I'm sad about.

My aim is to not go above 10mg, then reduce to a 7.5mg pen I have in the fridge, go down to 5mg (from 10mg pens) and then see how I go. I don't want to be on MJ forever as I don't want the cost hanging over me when I have nursery fees and wrap around care to pay for many years to come.

Reading about the weight gains has me worried though. I don't think I've been as successful as others on here at changing my lifestyle. Once the hunger comes back with force I don't know how I'll cope.

Well done to everyone on this thread, there's been some amazing outcomes and lots of you are at target already which is amazing. Good luck to everyone when we hit maintenance and fingers crossed we can beat the flab for good.

Sounds amazing @PissedOffNeighbour22 Well done

Can I ask how much this has cost you

Ans what dose you had ?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 12/08/2024 20:32

@ObsidianTree definitely agree with leaving the fruit for the kids. They eat so bloody much it costs a fortune. When I do fancy it, I'm likely to either leave it for them or think I'd rather use 83 calories on a bag of crisps 🫢.

I was full of good intentions until a couple of months ago when I seem to have started craving more junk. I just have to hope I can keep reduced portion sizes - although that's another thing that's definitely increased over the last couple of months.

@CiderJabs same, I don't know when to stop buying. I have 2 x 10mg and a 7.5mg in the fridge but once I stop, I don't want to have to be obese again just to get another pen. I keep buying 'just one more'.
As my weight-loss has slowed right down I could feasibly need all those pens just to get to bmi 25.

CiderJabs · 12/08/2024 22:07

@PissedOffNeighbour22 yes it's the "just one more" feeling I keep getting. I'm scared I'll want more and then struggle to buy it. I've already had to add a couple of lbs to qualify for these two pens, however the doctor did send me a message saying they will support with a maintenance plan.
I'm getting married next summer and I've already bought a (size 10!) dress so I just cannot afford to risk gaining it all back!
