It's in the fridge and I'm going to take the plunge on Monday!
Feeling really nervous about it all. Anyone due to start next week too?

Good luck everyone starting today. I’m 2 days in and feel tired but no other side effects. I can eat but don’t feel the urge to, which is nice.

BMI 33

Injected hour ago. It was straightforward painless and hardest part was shaking off family so I had 5 mins to do it. Honestly never realised how hard it is to get uninterrupted time at home

This was me trying to get the teens out the door, I have chosen not to tell anyone I am doing this, I don’t want to answer questions or debate, I just want to focus on myself and sort my head and emotional eating out

gimmemounjaro · 15/07/2024 11:01

Does anyone know the ins and outs of how MJ works? I know it contains hormones that make you feel fuller for longer, so that helps if hunger is the problem. But I am just thinking about all the other stuff around overeating and wondering if it helps with that.

Like:

  • eating because bored
  • eating out of habit eg always have tea and biscuits at 11am / crisps watching telly in the evening
  • eating for comfort when stressed / angry / anxious / upset etc
  • eating as a reward or treat or to break up the day
  • eating the wrong stuff
  • eating the wrong amount
  • continuing to eat even though you're very full, for whatever reason

Has anyone experienced improvement in their approach to eating that's not just about hunger?

Also - is there anything going on biochemically or metabolically to do with food being broken down / processed / used differently? So if I ate the same food on and off MJ, would I lose more weight with the drug? Or is its mechanism just about helping to reduce your intake by controlling hunger?

(Sorry for all the questions but would be interested in people's experiences. I am on day 3 and have definitely had a reduction in hunger but I don't think the psychological aspects have changed - yet, anyway. I have always struggled with stopping when full and with eating for reasons other than hunger and wondering whether MJ will help.)

A relative is 9 weeks in. He says that he was never hungry just eating for habit, or just fancy, or because it's there. He said all that has gone away in an inexplicable way.

This is exactly what I was hoping someone would say, thank you! 🥳

@gimmemounjaro these were my queries. I want to come off this lighter but also sustainably so.

Today I've had two dollops of high protein yoghurt and raspberries, strawberry with flax and linseed. Not hungry. I've shopped for high protein food and plan to eat healthily during this

gimmemounjaro · 15/07/2024 13:42

@Wishthiswasntmypost
It will be interesting to see what happens. I mean, I plan to eat healthily too, but I've planned that before and I don't think hunger is the reason I have failed, it tends to be stress / emotions / feeling like I "deserve" a "treat" / mindlessness / habit / comfort-seeking / self-sabotage etc etc. Hoping that somehow MJ helps with some of this too.

I am a hypnotherapist so I might try and support myself psychologically that way.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 15/07/2024 13:43

Went for my usual swim then Done at injection at 11am. Just had a yogurt and a banana. Still not feeling anything. Probs too early.

Hi how did you get on I took my first 2.5mg last night. Have been watching the forums for a while and really encouraged me to get involved.

ToriMJ · 15/07/2024 14:15

@gimmemounjaro I felt the same, as actually I don't overeat because I'm
Hungry, it's all those other things so I thought if it just suppressed hunger then it's prob not going to be that useful. But my cousin said it's all the other stuff. He can sit next to a bar of chocolate and feel no urge to eat it. It's the little nom nom voice that just fancies stuff or a look in the fridge again.

@gimmemounjaro If you want to understand more about how GLP1 drugs work, there’s a fascinating episode of Diary of a CEO with Dr Tyna Moore. It’s about ozempic and microdosing but I found it very informative about how the stuff works (and MJ has an additional peptide too). It is 2 hours long though 😬

walttynutcade · 15/07/2024 14:59

Just took first dose , I was a bit pathetic really, qualified nurse of many years but still watched u tube clip and read instructions numerous times , needle very fine didn't feel a thing .

DappledOliveGroves · 15/07/2024 15:03

Glad I found this thread. I'm on full Day 2 of Mounjaro. I took the first dose late Saturday night as I'd read that evenings are a good time to do it so you sleep off any side effects.

Yesterday I felt tired, slightly dizzy and then had a period of around 4 hours of having a very high heart rate. It went up to 154 bpm just walking to the kitchen. Thankfully that tailed off and although my resting heart rate is up slightly, it seems to have settled down. No nausea, no gastric symptoms at all.

I could barely eat anything yesterday. Today is similar. I managed breakfast ok but now have a half-eaten bowl of soup on my desk that I couldn't bring myself to finish.

I'm still quite tired and lethargic but hope that eases off.

I have around 2 and a half stone to lose.

Also - some other random information that might be helpful to anyone thinking of starting weight loss injections.

I went on Voy last Monday morning, did the eligibility quiz and made payment at around half ten. I was approved within two hours. I then received the package on Wednesday. It was delivered by Royal Mail. The packaging is plain. It's packed in an ice pack (like the meat in Hello Fresh!). It won't fit through a standard letterbox so presumably someone needs to be at home to receive it (don't think Royal Mail leave things like Amazon do). Voy has weight loss coaches that you can book video and telephone appointments with to tackle the psychology of it all. Mine is booked for a couple of weeks' time.

If anyone wants a discount code for Voy, mine is here:

Hello! I took my first dose last night so I'm pleased to 'meet' some people at a similar stage.

I'm surprised that my hunger has disappeared so quickly, didn't expect it to kick in so quickly. At first I thought it was just because I was super focused on how I was feeling. Will be interesting to see how the next few days pan out.

I have been drinking heaps though as my mouth is really dry. Gone off coffee which is my usual staple. I only go off it if I'm ill (or pregnant!) so I feel a little lost without my mug by my side!

SJLO · 15/07/2024 16:30

ToriMJ · 15/07/2024 14:19

How are you feeling so far, have you noticed anything?

Oh good for you. I took late at night so I would hopefully sleep through any initial side effects. I haven't eaten today yet but unsure if that's because I ate all day yesterday as I knew I was taking first jag! Going to have something light for dinner and see how I feel. I have been burping quite a bit feels like a bit of acid reflux which I've never had an issue with before so I expect that's a side effect also feel quite "alert" but prob because I'm constantly thinking about how I am feeling 😭🤣. Keep reading forums and totally paranoid but something had to change had a stressful year or so and I comfort eat and have picked up bad habits! Hope you are feeling ok???

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 15/07/2024 16:39

Yes, first dose for me today!

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 15/07/2024 16:51

5 hours in and still feel ok.

Meeting a friend in an hour for dinner so that will be interesting.

I should be starving as only had approx 250 calories today but I'm happy to wait till I meet friend. Normally I'd have scoffed some crisps Pre dinner.

Weighed myself and 75 kilos today.
I'm short at 5.1" so just borderline. I'm so glad I managed to get it. I'm praying I can shift my meno weight. I don't want to be skinny. I just want to get back into my normal clothes as dieting stopped working once meno hit.

MzHz · 15/07/2024 17:10

ToriMJ · 15/07/2024 09:28

Thank you I needed that!

I did it! Eeeeek

Ha ha! Well done! Reading back that post I came across all super bossy - sorry about that :D

Worked tho :)

I still feel ok, no obvious signs, I am tired, but my son was out late after the footy and i was stalking him on find my a bit. Then the dog woke up early. But i am 56 years of age, the hormones are an arse. So this fatigue could be MJ or hormones. Did feel a smidge dizzy earlier

I'm off to swimming training later so won't eat any more today, i did have a protein shake an hour ago just in case that was it. Need to drink more water

I do feel comfortably full, and that is something i read that happens. I too don't eat when I am hungry, it's bored, it's nothing else to do, it's opportunity, it's eating when i am supposed to, not when i need to. This we seem to all have in common, so we can support each other in this.

ToriMJ · 15/07/2024 17:42

I feel shattered tonight, probably more tired than usual. But also have hardly eaten today as was out and about and I daren't eat anything junk foody or processed for fear of repercussions. I'm now doing some chicken and boiled eggs ready for salad at work tomorrow.
