Happy Saturday all! Stretched a bit to find a number highlight this week. BMI reduced by 5 points from starting number is as good as any!

I want to have nice steady weight loss around 2lb a week, I know faster weight loss is unhealthy and has risks, I am keeping my MJ dose low so I don't get too strong appetite suppression.......so why am I still a little disappointed in that instant when I step on the scales on weigh in day and it is "only" 2lb? 🤔

I think my mind wants to step on them one day and just be 12st something and not be overweight for the first time in 25 years now! It took 25 years to get here, a couple of years to get back isn't that long - I need more patience, is there an injection for that?! 😂

End of week 12 (5 x 2.5mg, 7 x 3.75mg)
SW 21st 5lbs BMI 42.8
CW 18st 11lbs BMI 37.7
Losses - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2
Total loss - 2st 8lbs (36lbs), 12%

Wimped out trying the 8mm needle with a syringe to see if it prevents the injection site reaction, used a 6mm pen needle again to see if it still keeps the itchiness away.

Well done to all with your continued progress!

NSV - it's a lovely day here and my daughters and I went into town for a spot of shopping, art & out to lunch. I wore a summer dress and it felt a bit bigger than when I last wore it.

So we are in the shops and my
Knickers start falling down. I kept pulling them up - it was a bit annoying and i half wondered if I should buy a new pair to change into. But I kept going and we went walking and I started having some proper issues with them & kept having to pull them up. As soon as I could find a loo I had to tie a big knot in the waistband- which thankfully sorted things out until I got home. Just as well my dress was loose enough for the knot not to show through.

I'll sew a dart in the waist once they have been through the wash.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/09/2024 18:34

Just to add I did find the whole knicker thing very amusing and a bit pleasing to feel the effect of losing 9.5kgs. I can't really see it apart from in my face a bit, but it is real!

PonyPatter44 · 14/09/2024 22:41

The knicker predicament made me laugh!

Even my mother, who has gleefully commented on my fatness for 40 years, said today that I looked thinner, and had I lost weight? Yes mum, four and a half stone actually. I still feel quite fat (well, i AM fat of course!!), but I'm hoping that the kitchen roll effect will start to kick in soon and the weight loss will really start to show.

Timetofindme · 15/09/2024 08:25

@WeAllHaveWings that's the hard bit isn't it. If I was reliably losing 1-2lbs a week without MJ I'd be mostly pleased (would be lying if there wasn't a bit of 'only' creeping in). But with MJ I want this to be sustainable so 1-2lb a week is great, but my head still says 'why haven't you lost a stone in a week'. Cheers diet culture 😂

RobinEllacotStrike · 15/09/2024 09:31

@WeAllHaveWings oh yes I get that re almost any weight loss. And when I have a "big woosh" I don't believe it either.

I have an old fashioned 1lb scale weight. I dug it out and now keep it on the coffee table. Every night I pick it up. 1lb is actually a solid weight. I wouldn't want that in my pocket all day everyday & certainly not 2.

I try to imagine carrying 18 of them around (roughly my loss to date). It might be interesting to quantify overall loss in a backpack and carry that around for a bit.

RobinEllacotStrike · 15/09/2024 09:34

@PonyPatter44 ouch that is tough. 4.5stone is amazing and must be really noticeable.

Sorry your mum isn't more supportive & encouraging.

RobinEllacotStrike · 15/09/2024 09:48

I'd not heard of the paper towel effect before - it's a great visual analogy

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 15/09/2024 11:09

Congrats on all the losses and NSVs!

The end of another week here and I don't think I've recorded my weight loss on here in a while, with being away on holiday etc.

Not sure what week I'm on, but I'm roughly almost 6 months into my mounjaro journey. Currently on my 3rd 10mg pen.

SW: 263.6 lbs
CW: 216.8 lbs
GW: 145 lbs I think?

This week I've lost 3.2lbs, but I'm averaging out at just under 2lbs a week.

This is the lowest weight I've been in years, and I bought a size 16 dress the other day! I was 22-24 at the start. My size 18 jeans are also way too big, I can take them off without undoing the zip or button. I know I still have a long way to go, and it's frustratingly slow at times (random 2 week long plateaus quite a lot!) but it all adds up. If you're in this for the long haul like me, just keep plodding along. We'll get there someday 💪

Darlinghag · 16/09/2024 11:34

Interesting to hear folks thoughts on people not noticing loss and wanting that.

I think I probably need a therapist to deal with that haha - I definitely have wider issues around being seen as weak or showing weakness, and I do consider my lack of ability to lose weight, and also the fact that I care about my weight at all, as that. Pathetic of me to be so weird about it.

I’ve hit a new low this weekend - 18st 12.7lbs. Pleased! I also took my first 5mg last night. Nausea was stronger and hit me within the hour - I struggled to sleep it off. And I haven’t really got supression effects yet. Last week was similar - max supression around days 3-4.

But feeling ok today. Here’s to week 5!

Eminybob · 17/09/2024 06:54

Urgh I'm having a plateau and it's starting to get to me.

Losses have been slowing down these last few weeks and I have lost precisely diddly squat since this time last week, I've not eaten any more than I have been, and I don't know how I could physically eat any less without making myself ill.

I'm on my last dose of 12.5 for context, have lost almost 4 stone so far without too much effort, I hit my fist mini goal of 12st last week, and it feels like this is it, this is the lightest my body wants to be and is resisting dropping any more!

Anyone else had similar? Did the losses start again or is it going to get harder from this point on? I have just under 2 stone to go to hit my goal.

Yes, I plateau a lot. I had almost a month long plateau before I went on holiday. When on holiday, I ate more than I did at home and couldn't weigh myself. After I returned, I started losing again. I don't know if eating more helped kick start things again, or if I would have started losing again anyway. But just keep going.

I'm way behind you so haven't experienced similar.

But you have lost FOUR stone - that is incredible. Hopefully this is just your body pausing, reconfiguring a bit - it has been through massive changes and that includes your internal organs too. It makes sense that there will be periods of adjustment in this process.

Keep looking after yourself - maybe treat your body to some top notch self care. Be patient and look after yourself.

You've done something so amazing don't dispair.

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/09/2024 11:23
  • despair!
RobinEllacotStrike · 17/09/2024 11:29

4 stone is my full checked in suitcase plus carry on bag when I went on holiday recently! I couldn't carry that suitcase around very far without wheels!

It really is a massive change for our bodies - clearly losing the weight is only part of this story - how we adapt, and take care of our changed body is a big part of this too. Maybe focus on that for a bit.

Eminybob · 17/09/2024 17:09

Thanks for the support. I know I should be grateful and amazed at the loss so far, I have never lost this much in one go before.
The good thing with MJ is there is no temptation to fall off the wagon when you hit a slump like there is when going it alone. We keep plodding on!

ClonedSquare · 17/09/2024 17:35

Finding the side effects pretty tough the past two days (since I went up to 10mg). I had toilet trouble all night until I took Imodium and I've had terrible indigestion all day even though all I've eaten is one chicken thigh and a yoghurt. I'm still having indigestion and I last ate at midday!

So weird when I haven't been having any side effects at all until now aside from a slightly dodgy tummy last week (which was week 10 of 7.5mg so nothing new to cause it!).

NewbieMJ · 17/09/2024 17:59

What an inspiring thread this is - I lost 6 pounds week 1, and stayed the same the second week. Just reading others get plateaus and work through them makes me feel better and 6 pounds is still great in 2 weeks. So much great information and support without judgement is really welcomed, so a big thank you.
I recommend probiotics for those of you with tummy troubles. They really do work a treat. And I know it isn't for some - but a tablespoon of coconut oil works a treat to soothe your oesophagus at times of painful indigestion. I don't personally suffer from indigestion, but my husband used to and it is excellent as an immediate relief. The solid extra virgin jars. Hope that helps.

EliLilly · 17/09/2024 18:15

I've lost just over 7 lbs in the last 12 days, I lost 2 lbs in the MONTH before that.

Now lost 25 lbs in 13.5 weeks. Not super fast (don't want that either) but I am happy with it, and so glad that my weight is shifting again. I can look back with hope when it inevitably happens again!

Yeah, the good thing about MJ is you just keep going and therefore these stalls/plateaus don't de-rail the whole journey. I was feeling really quite disheartened in the slow month, especially as side effects caused a problem for the first time.

Darlinghag · 17/09/2024 19:59

Congrats to the losses!!

i am end of day 2 on 5mg, 1st dose and offffff, suppression is unreal!! I’ve never experienced this in my life!

unfortunately, a little bit more nausea has come with it, and i’m considering seeing if there is any good anti nausea OTC meds around - any recs?

i guess with more power, comes more side effects, and it is my first week at this dose.

no changes on the scale yet tho, but i usually take a few days to reflect that, given going to the bathroom is not happening all that frequently!!

BingoWingsOverScotland · 17/09/2024 20:45

I don't know whether to congratulate you or commiserate with you, @Darlinghag! I'm due my first 5mg jag tomorrow night. The bonus dose last week was pretty much 3.75mg, and I didn't feel funny on it, so fingers crossed!

gimmemounjaro · 18/09/2024 08:41

How have people found the step up to 7.5mg? I am on my first week and am much more snacky - maybe not feeling physical hunger but suddenly into crisps again having not thought about them for two months.

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 18/09/2024 08:44

@gimmemounjaro I've suffered more side effects on 7.5mg than i have at any other time, sulphur burps, constant diarrhoea and so so tired. Just hoping after a few weeks my body gets used to it. Suppression wise I've only really found I'm getting hungry just before my next jab is due but i've had that on every dose so far.

Ghilliedu · 18/09/2024 09:29

@gimmemounjaro Im definitely feeling snacky on 7.5 too. Suppression on day 1 and a bit of nausea but now I’m out of that I just want to eat all the savoury snacks.

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/09/2024 10:19

NSV - Today I am wearing my old size 18 jeans. They are snug but very comfortable & its great to be back in them. I don't think I've worn these for 1.5 years. I'm wearing them with a top I love too - I've not worn this top for probably 3 years. It's fab to be back in this fav outfit.

Size 20 jeans are noticably baggy now.
Belt has gone in another notch.

have a great day losers.
