Another Monday, another weigh in. 1.6kg off this week, edging closer to getting in to the 80s. This week I've been fancying sweet treats I've not felt bothered about up to now much more. Not been going overboard but I'm keeping an eye on that as it could easily be a slippery slope back into emotional eating rather than mindful eating.

JessicaPeach · 05/08/2024 08:54

Hi all, great to see all these losses, it's a completely different culture to normal dieting chats isn't it!

I'm 21.8lbs down after 5 weeks, took my first 5mg on Friday night. I wanted to have lost 2 stone by the end of the summer hols, which I felt was ambitious at the start but it's definitely within touching distance now! Also quite looking forward to school run etc as I think people will start to notice having not seen me for a little while.

Having said that, this first 5mg has hit me pretty hard, have eaten very little since Friday evening so it's no wonder I'm losing a lot. I bought a pack from zava with a 5 and a 7.5 but I'm thinking I might have to buy an interim 5 before I move up. This will have the added bonus of being quite handy as my bmi will still be 30 then so should be no questions asked! Does anyone know how long zava will prescribe for?

omega4ever · 05/08/2024 09:29

@undercover @JessicaPeach brilliant losses . Well done! This stuff is amazing.

I've settled into my journey and I'm loving the changes both physical and mental. Monday is my official weigh day but I do jump on and off scales in the week too.

So 16 weeks since my first MJ injection....
I've now lost 15 kgs... and my bmi has gone from 41.8 to 36.2....

I'm now the lowest weight I have been in 14 years and am almost at the halfway point to a bmi of 29.9... just overweight !!!

I've just gone upto 7.5mgs and am eating healthy meals ( much smaller quantities) and exercising normally, and not feeling deprived at all. . Clothes are hanging off me and I've been buying and selling on vinted to get an intrim wardrobe which is fun and letting me experiment with different styles and colours at net zero cost.

I feel great. I'm excited for the next bit but not rushing it, and letting the process work.

I love these threads... so wherever you are in this journey it works, the weeks will tick by and everything crossed for a healthy body and mind at the end.... where ever that will be.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/08/2024 09:30

@JessicaPeach I was too worried about 5mg so did a mid way 3.75mg. I was fine the first week felt I had loads of energy, had the second dose of 3.75mg on Saturday, and I feel dreadful today. Cold and weak. Although I didn't eat much yesterday so hoping it is a blip, I tried to up my fibre by having All Bran instead of granola with with my yoghurt in the morning and it really didn't agree with me/only ate a few mouthfuls before I felt 🤢 and it put me off eating for most of the rest of the day. All Bran now in the bin!

I have seen some FB posts recently saying ZAVA will prescribe until a BMI of 25.

KeepingUndercover · 05/08/2024 09:32

@JessicaPeach this is from the main MJ thread first post and has what we've worked out from asking the different prescribers what their maintenance plans are:

22 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years
Cloud: up to 2 years
Boots: Cut off at BMI 23
Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI
Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance
Zava:Once healthy BMI will stop prescribing this treatment
Med Express: Now saying they support maintenance upto 2 years.

ClonedSquare · 05/08/2024 10:25

Down 2lbs again this week, which I'm very happy with! 32lbs total at the end of week 14. Now have 6-10lbs to lose before my holiday in 8 weeks time which feels doable. 6lbs will take me to a significant weight on the scale, whereas 10lbs would mean I'd lost 3stone total.

I definitely feel I'm being a bit lax on snacks and not getting enough protein and water at the moment, so I plan to be a bit stricter this week. But obviously even my "lax" now is amazing compared to pre-Mounjaro.

Thank you! Hopefully by the time I get down to 25 there'll have been a change or it will be easier to move to someone else for maintenance. My target is bmi of 23 but I will be ecstatic to get to 25 as things stand.

CrystaltipsnoAlistair · 05/08/2024 11:54

Well done on all the great losses.
@ClonedSquare Am sure you will get there for your holiday. Bet you’ll feel great after such a big loss so far.

@JessicaPeach I hope that maintenance plans come into play and time limits/BMI etc are more straightforward. I hope we aren’t dumped out without a maintenance dose or help not to rebound back up the scales. I have a way to go but am going to ask my prescriber what the plan is if I get to normal BMI …..hope if becomes when. Am hopeful.
I weighed in 43lbs down in 12 weeks so really happy. Still on 5mg and hope I can stay on this dose. See how it goes.
The MJ way is so much easier than my previous 30 odd years of dieting fighting hunger and food noise.

This stuff works.

PonyPatter44 · 06/08/2024 22:36

I'm 93kg... I have a bottle of champagne in the fridge for when I hit 90kg (my first target). However, I suspect I won't actually want much of it! I'd really really like to be 90kg by the end of August...

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 06/08/2024 22:42

Hi everyone,

Joining another thread as I feel it's going to be hugely important to be surrounded by community during this journey!

I've just ordered my first mounjaro pen. I'm 25, 5 foot 4 and a shocking 280lbs. Very much needing to lose 135lbs in reality. I don’t know if I'll ever make that though

gimmemounjaro · 06/08/2024 23:44

Joining if I may - I'm on week 4 of MJ and have around 6 stone to lose. There's not much happening at 2.5mg (I have lost 6 lbs so far), so looking forward to trying 5mg next week.

Eminybob · 07/08/2024 06:32

Whoop - officially 20% of my starting weight lost as of today!

NewoIkkin · 07/08/2024 08:57

@Eminybob thats amazing, well done!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 07/08/2024 09:10

Weigh day for me and only 0.9kg down this week. For the first time I'd actually been feeling like I'd lost weight so thought it might have been more. Still nearly a stone down in 4 weeks which is more than I could ever have done on my own but definitely ready to move up to 5mg

Ghilliedu · 07/08/2024 09:57

Hi to all the newbies on the thread and well done on all the losses!

I did my second 5mg jab yesterday and the nausea is back today. I’ve taken a cyclyzine tablet and am now distracting myself on mumsnet til it kicks in and I can do some work!

lookathatbookcase · 07/08/2024 10:02

Chipping on on providers - Asda have online doctors, and also a medical helpline; I haven't used them, but they're there.

Tirzepatide · 07/08/2024 10:22

@PonyPatter44 - sounds doable! Maybe swap that champagne out for a mini one! Alcohol was my biggest stumbling block - struggled to just have one. Love the fact that one is more than enough now.

@NeedSomeAnswersPlease You'll make it. I'm just focusing on one mini goal at a time - that really helps. Good Luck!

@gimmemounjaro - good luck with the 5 mg! My suppression went up a lot when I got past 2.5 mg. Even bonus dose of 3.2 mg was noticeable.

@Eminybob What a milestone - well done!!

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark Great news that you are feeling it after the 4 weeks! 0.9 kg is a good loss. In a month I usually have two good losses, an average one and a low one - all hormonal of course!

I'm now kicking myself for going up to 4.6 mg this week (although pleased I did so that I've learnt this lesson...when I'm not at work). I had good suppression (too good?) on 4.2 mg but went up to 4.6 mg this week anyway on the journey to 5 mg. It started with Sulfur burps (which have now gone) and then the diarrhoea kicked in - 4 mornings in a row now (started at 3 am last night...). I'm going back to 4.2 mg next week (considering 3.75 mg). Moral of the story (for me anyway) - is to go cautiously up the doses and stop when suppression is good. I also don't want to lose too fast (average 1 kg/wk over 4 weeks (excluding first 2 weeks) is my max - and I was going over that).

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 07/08/2024 10:24

Thank you! Order has been approved so I'm all on course to start on Monday

3wDavid · 07/08/2024 10:32

Morning all!

Just thought I’d share a little update on my journey so far:

Week 10.5 on MJ, just moved up to 5mg on Monday and feeling totally fine/no side effects

SW: 107.2 kg / 16 st 12.5 lbs / 236.5 lbs
CW: 91.2 kg / 14 st 5 lbs / 201 lbs

I’m exactly half-way to my target of getting down to healthy BMI. I am really hopeful I could get there by December 1 (if not sooner; sooner would be nicer lol).

WeAllHaveWings · 07/08/2024 11:48

Now I am on some Mounjaro FB groups my facebook Short Videos are starting to pickup on my posting history. One showed a clip for signs of insulin resistance and a picture similar to below.

I have similar, two larger ones and others more widespread but not quite as pronounced, on my neck since shortly after ds(20) was born. I have mentioned to different Drs at least twice and both times they have said they don't look like anything to worry about.....I assumed it was just old age as we are quite a freckly/moley family!

I get my bloods taken in an annual checkup every year for my HBP checkup. Once, around 5 years ago they asked me to come back for repeat bloods after fasting for 12 hours as it potentially looked pre-diabetic but the fasting bloods were ok and I thought no more of it and bloods every since have been fine.

I am now wondering if MJ magically switching off the famous "food noise" and working for me at 2.5mg is because I am actually insulin resistant. Does anyone else have these signs and had a great response from MJ from day 1?

gimmemounjaro · 07/08/2024 12:01

No@WeAllHaveWings but conversely, my metabolic response to sugars is good, better than the average person (according to Zoe) and my loss on MJ has been really slow. I don't know if that is helpful!

I am about 6 stone overweight, so would have expected the opposite for both those stats.

thinkfast · 07/08/2024 12:21

Posting my progress to date as I'm feeling very pleased so far a mid way through week 4:

SW: 21 stone 3 lb
CW: 19 stone 12 lb

I had a blip in the middle where I seemed to gain and lose the same couple of lb, but very happy now everything seems to be moving in the right direction

I've achieved 2 mini goals, namely lose 1 stone and get below 20 stone.

NSV: my puffy ankles have disappeared, my leg injuries are significantly improved, I get out of breath much less quickly, I've lost 4.5 inches from my waist and my clothes feel a little looser. DaffodilGrin

I'm sticking to 2.5ml for my next order as I have a holiday coming up and was worried about symptoms.

gimmemounjaro · 07/08/2024 12:53

That is amazing, well done @thinkfast
👏👏👏 💪💪💪

Tirzepatide · 07/08/2024 13:44

MJ worked for me from the first dose @WeAllHaveWings - no clear signs of insulin resistance (ZOE score also good for sugars, good for everything...yet still...).

I haven't been losing super fast (and I don't want to) but also not slow for someone who is early fifties (and probably perimenopausal) with a history of large weight fluctuations.

It is interesting how we all react differently. As I said in my previous post I'm finding 4.6 mg too much (and I'm going back down to 4.2 mg on Friday) - but no symptoms other than suppression on 2.5 mg. Other people have gone straight up to 5 mg from 2.5 mg with no problems or need to be up on a higher dose before it starts working on appetite suppression. I guess the reality is it is a very complex mix of factors and we just have to work with what is happening and adjust accordingly.

I've attached my WI results (sorry - went big, will need to click on it for losses etc). I did a mid week check today on my weight for this week and I'm down 2.4 lbs already (I wouldn't expect to lose that much this week in my cycle - almost certainly a result of being over suppressed and emptied out (sorry TMI!)).

Well done @thinkfast !

WeAllHaveWings · 07/08/2024 15:23

@Tirzepatide our spreadsheets are very similar, although I used more morbid colouring for my morbid obesity! 😂, I had a massive first week loss due to illness which I think my hair has paid for! Also 50s, but mid and probably in menopause now and would be more than happy with a 1.5-2lb average weight loss a week on the lowest dose possible.

I went up to 3.75mg two weeks ago as I was feeling the suppression dipping towards the end of the week and the compulsive "food noise" creeping back in on those days.

So far on 3.75mg I am feeling hunger at appropriate times, which I am comfortable with, but no overwhelming compulsion to be at the fridge, or for sweet food/pepsi max drinks at all. I haven't had a pepsi max in 6 weeks and don't miss it, I haven't tried one, just don't fancy it, there is chocolate and biscuits at home untouched for weeks.

I hadn't heard of Zoe, that you and @gimmemounjaro mentioned, before and googled it, sounds interesting and something I wish I had the data for before I started MJ to compare, but it seems expensive for the initial investment and ongoing monthly cost above the MJ cost for now, but might consider later towards the end of MJ (a year or more from now!) to monitor the results as I come off it.

I guess I am searching for an unobtainable answer, or at least clues, to where it all went wrong from that tall skinny 20 year old with a 22" waist to nearly 30 years of compulsive eating/yoyo dieting, how a tiny magic injection once a week can switch all those feelings off like a light bulb and how will I sustain this post-MJ. I might be better getting another hobby!

@thinkfast MJ had the same effect on my hot puffy ankles and lower legs in the first 3-4 weeks and my wide fitting trainers feeling so much more comfortable too. It is a great NSV.
