Continuing Mounjaro Thread 11

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Interesting about med express.

They claim to have the lowest price guarantee

PomchiK · 03/06/2024 18:23

PugLover2024 · 03/06/2024 18:02

I was with MedExpress then tried Zava for this discount, this was their response for anyone interested:

I just checked the NHS BMI tracker and the weight for BMI 30.2 is 75kg (11st 11lb) at a height of 5ft 2in. This doesn't seem right. They could cut me off if I lose 5kg?!😭
74kg is 29.8 BMI.

chesterlestreet · 03/06/2024 18:25

I ordered from The Family Chemist late Friday afternoon and it was despatched yesterday. I included a scales pic and my med express box. No follow up questions. 10mg for £169.99 plus postage.

chesterlestreet · 03/06/2024 18:26

And BMI under 30

Choux · 03/06/2024 18:39

Good to know @chesterlestreet. If my ZAVA order is rejected I will try the Family Chemist. My BMI is currently 28.8 and I am ordering my 5th pen.

I wonder @PugLover2024 if the issue was you were currently on 5mg so potentially only your second pen and your BMI was already under 30. It would be easy to inflate your weight a few lbs to get an initial prescription when your starting BMI was really under 30 and then get continued access to pens. You could have had 3 or more 5mg pens already but they never gave you a chance to tell them that.

April88 · 03/06/2024 18:44

I got my 10mg through cloud pharmacy for £168.28 including postage.

Used £5 discount code. I can’t find it but I’ll have another look!

They accepted it with proof of my 7.5mg dose and my bmi is 28. Just thought I’d share for those who Zava are rejecting

That’s true, I have already used up a 5mg pen and going to start my 2nd 5mg pen tonight. I started at the end of March. To be honest I think I’m just going to stick to MedExpress, can’t be arsed with the faff!

dmott · 03/06/2024 18:48

I can only presume med express will change their prices.

The website claims lowest price guarantee on all treatments.
I've just messaged them to enquire if they are going to honour this claim as currently other pharmacies have it cheaper

Wonkypictureframe · 03/06/2024 19:02

Pharmacy2U was £172 with code for 10mg. They did quite a thorough questionnaire (including questions like ‘what are your weight loss goals?’ and ‘what side effects have you experienced and what success have you had?’) but didn’t ask for any supporting evidence of my weight or existing prescription which surprised me.

FastGoose · 03/06/2024 19:31

I wonder how long til medex are kicking themselves for the mass exodus of customers leaving them over removing discounts!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 03/06/2024 19:54

Evening All,
After a wasted afternoon on the couch with little one watching far too much telly my hayfever symptoms have settled and now I just have that exhausted feeling like I've spent the day crying. I keep looking at new clothes online that I've decided I'll buy when I lose the weight (very long way to go so this is very much fantasy at the moment). Is anyone else putting things in their basket that they're not actually going to buy but would like to think they will once they've dropped some more dress sizes?

I'm at the lowest weight I've been since starting MJ, 89.5kg, same weight I was on 23rd May (have bounced up and down but never lower than this ). Just want to not see a number above 90kg again so need to lose another 2kg at least to allow for bloating and hormonal gains. Need this stall to go!

Sye · 03/06/2024 19:56

Has anyone found that on the 3rd week of the 2.5mg MJ that it starts to loose the effect?
considering moving to 5mg a week early

Yeap exactly this!

FastGoose · 03/06/2024 20:10

Yeap exactly this!

Did you up yours to 2.5mg or are you also still on 2.5mg and finding the lesser effect?

QuiltedHippo · 03/06/2024 20:23

Asda sent me a 10% come back to us code today, worth looking out for if you've used them before. Not sure how competitive it makes them but I'll try it next time if cheaper than med express with no codes. It's a personal one use one so cant share it unfortunately

FastGoose · 03/06/2024 20:24

@Sye I did the first 3 weeks at 2.5 and as I approached the 4th dose I decided to use the "bonus" dose alongside my 4th 2.5 dose to put me on 5 a week early. Some don't recommend it and others will. I got strong suppression alongside a bit of nausea and a headache but it wasn't far off what I experienced when I first started out at 2.5. I'm now due to use my first dose from 5mg pen tomorrow and I'm still quite well suppressed although I have been thinking about food alot more today than I have all week x

Edit. I forgot to add. Im also on track for losing 3lb this week at tomorrows weigh in (an improvement on the previous week)

Rulay · 03/06/2024 20:26

Does anyone know if we can give blood on MJ?

hoola23 · 03/06/2024 20:27

End of day 4 and I feel as if the good effects are tapering off now - is this normal? Aside from a dry mouth day one, zero energy days 2&3 I've had zero side effects. Should I expect the same after my second dose or can it change weekly by week?

lurkylurk · 03/06/2024 20:27

@AgathaMystery
Don’t forget that if you go too long between prescriptions they’ll start you back at 2.5mg. It was 6 weeks, form now says something about 8 weeks (can’t remember exactly) so keep in mind, other suppliers if you’re switching and need to show evidence of last prescription may be 6 weeks too.
Great that you can use all the pens they sent! Maybe you can order again within the 6 weeks and stockpile? I can’t remember how far you have to go so maybe these 3 pens finish it off!

Good point - I had forgotten!! I will need to get a 10mg from somewhere. I’ve another 19kg to go - I’m 35% of the way to my goal, so I don’t think it’s possible in 3 mth.

Ah, great idea, I have a trip away this weekend and will give this ago when I return.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences

I feel you on the hayfever!

I had horrendous hayfever as a child every year, my mum was a qualified doctor but also an acupuncturist so of course she tried that, did nothing, then she started on homeopathic remedies (please note I have no faith in homeopathy so as far as I’m concerned this was luck), tried 2 different ones did nothing, tried a 3rd and it literally disappeared for 8 years and when it returned it was literally a few sneezes on high pollen days a couple of times a year.

So here’s hoping something eventually helps! (Again, not recommending homeopathy, who knows why it worked, the company that made those ones not around anymore anyhow).

First week I had bad sickness for a couple of days and was hungry by day 4, I injected a day early because I was so starving I knew I would end up bingeing. Second week only a mild short bout of nausea and I've got until the end of day 5 without food noise, it's returning now but my appetite is still suppressed. I think it does build up in your system and remember some people need the higher doses for the full effect.

Family143 · 03/06/2024 22:48

Hi I hope it's OK for me to post here. I have been reading the threads but never posted.
I am on my 5th week of 2.5 which i stayed on as I didn't want to risk side effects on my holiday. I have so far lost 9lbs. I have a health condition which means I was prescribed mounjaro with a bmi lower than 30.
It seems to be still suppressing my appetite. I just wondered if anyone has stayed on the lowest dose and not increased or whether you think the suppression will decrease and I will need a higher dose. Many of you seem really knowledgeable so I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 03/06/2024 22:51

Please could I have a ZAVA code? Thank you in advance
