Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Does anyone know if we can give blood on MJ?

I have, the nurse had to see me and check I hadn’t got it on the black market

Choux · 03/06/2024 23:01

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 03/06/2024 22:51

Please could I have a ZAVA code? Thank you in advance

REFVYVHF should work.

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 03/06/2024 23:08

Thank you! Ordered. Here's the new code if anyone would like to use it REFYBM2D

Rulay · 03/06/2024 23:21

Thanks @April88

Has anyone used right angled pharmacy? They seem decently priced and they offer 10% off if you subscribe and they will automatically send you the next pen every 4 weeks. 7.5mg is just over £150 if you subscribe which seems decent. I’ve just messaged them to see if they will subscribe it to me if I show proof of current subscription.

I haven't heard of that one, I'll go and check it out.

Does anybody know how we verify that a perscriber is legitimate? When I started on MJ I just picked a perscriber that I saw mentioned lots on the earlier threads.

I know there are some dodgy injectables floating about and would want to be certain what I'm getting is legitimate if I was to trial one of the lesser known chemists.

I know it’s a random thing to post but could anyone use a couple of summer frocks?

I’ve got 2 Hush dresses that I’ve slimmed out of (& repurchased on Vinted in size smaller).

Both are well worn & I’ve had to darn BOTH right underarms in them as they ripped due to the way I carry my rucksack. The darns are not noticeable when you wear the dresses unless you do the YMCA, in which case, people will compliment you on such a complex darn.

They are both Hush Kensington and both will fit someone who is a large 16. I have worn both up to a weight of 200lb in the past. They are comfortable, flattering, look great with trainers/heels/flips/sandals have elasticated waists and HAVE POCKETS.

One is leopard and one is green/black/white with tiny hints on pink. Both look great with a denim jacket. DM me if you’d like them/one of them & I will pop it in the post to you.

@AgathaMystery

I'm not a customer as have plenty of smaller summer dresses that I have kept awaiting me, but for future reference for yourself at smaller sizes Apricot have a lot of similar dresses at size 10-12-14-16, I find them similar to the ones shown and VERY flattering at lowish prices.

lurkylurk · 04/06/2024 02:36

Yay, UKmum has returned! She seems to have developed some minor initial side effects along the way (to appear more consistent), previously UK mum had no real side effects at all, but now some but not for long!

SylviaStrong · 04/06/2024 05:51

Can I join you ?

I started 2 weeks ago.

SW 194lb
W1 187lb
CW 184lb

I have lost 10lb in 2 weeks . I had lost 7lb in the few weeks before I started so just over a stone down and I am delighted. I don’t have an exact goal weight in mind as have been overweight for my whole adult life so I don’t know what weight will suit me. My initial goal is to be within a normal BMI.

I have just found this thread so have a lot of reading to do.

hockeysticks89 · 04/06/2024 06:36

Asda has sent me a sharing code for 10% off a first order, which also gives me 10%, I think it said it can be shared without restriction: REF8DNS2

Soukmyfalafel · 04/06/2024 06:44

If you go back to Asda after a break for a couple of months what is the process? Do you start over again? I think on an email there was a restart button, but I stopped using them at 5mg and don't want to faff about with photos,ID and pictures of meds and stuff just to save £15.

RunningAndSinging · 04/06/2024 06:50

I remember Rightangled was popular for a while on the Ozempic/Wegovy threads and I think I ordered from them at some point. No one had any problems with them.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 04/06/2024 07:02

I am toying with the idea of stopping. Last week (first week on 3.75) I had 36 hours when I needed to be very close to the bathroom. For the past 24 hours, I have had low level nausea and an unsettled stomach which are distracting and, in a job where I have to concentrate and attend a lot of meetings in person, a bit of an issue!
Also, I don't like this level of appetite suppression. In the earlier weeks, I was eating 1200 calories and focussing on protein and veg. I was enjoying my food, just needed less of it. Now, I have very little appetite but, knowing I need to it, find it easier to slip back to poor habits of thinking I'll have a couple of slices of toast or eating fake food like shop bought protein puddings or bars or having a protein drink to get my protein levels up. This isn't actually helping me to establish longer term healthy eating habits in any way.
I might feel differently if I was losing weight at a faster rate but I'm a pound a week. I think I need to remember that this is significantly more than I was managing by myself but I'm not sure it's worth it. At the back of my mind is the nagging feeling that, as soon as I stop, the weight will pile back on again and that perhaps that is better to happen now than when I'm a lower weight and have bought myself loads of clothes and things that will then join the other piles of clothes I can't get into.

Hi I hope it's OK for me to post here. I have been reading the threads but never posted.
I am on my 5th week of 2.5 which i stayed on as I didn't want to risk side effects on my holiday. I have so far lost 9lbs. I have a health condition which means I was prescribed mounjaro with a bmi lower than 30.
It seems to be still suppressing my appetite. I just wondered if anyone has stayed on the lowest dose and not increased or whether you think the suppression will decrease and I will need a higher dose. Many of you seem really knowledgeable so I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

I stayed on 2.5mg for 8 weeks but found my appetite and food noise started returning during week 6 so I have moved up to 5mg. More experienced people who have lost a lot of weight on tik tok have said it's fine to stay on the lower dosage as long as it's working for you.

RunningAndSinging · 04/06/2024 07:06

I have finally lost my first stone 😃

Two or even three more in an ideal world to go but it’s a great milestone.

You can. I called the Give Blood hotline before my appointment and they told me to take my prescription box and leaflet to the donation centre and tell the nurse when having my pre-assessment. She looked on her tablet thing, consulted with the senior nurse and said it's fine.

RagzRebooted · 04/06/2024 07:32

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa what about dropping back down to 2.5? Or 3?
I agree it feels you aren't getting the best of it if you aren't building good habits, but it's still early days and the awful effects are unlikely to last all the way through. Eating proper meals will probably help, when you're able to.

WaistBeGone · 04/06/2024 07:34

First time posting on this thread. I've enjoyed reading about all the different experiences so thought I should add mine.

I'm coming up to my 7th dose but started losing while waiting for my first pen. This meant that I had the initial weight/water loss before starting. Since using the pen I've lost 15lb in 6 weeks. I'm actually aiming to lose around 2lb a week as I'm worried about the effects of rapid weight loss so I'm trying to eat a bit more!

I'm using 3.7ml from a 5ml pen as well as the bonus dose so I will get 7 weeks from it which makes it affordable long term so I'm in no rush. I'm in no rush to increase the dose either while I'm getting results as being able to increase if necessary is a bit like knowing the cavalry will arrive to help me out if things get tough! I've had no side effects but also no noticeable appetite suppression. What has gone are the cravings - particularly after a glass of wine! I like the fact that I'm choosing not to eat more rather than feeling that I can't eat as this gives me hope that I can continue when I stop taking it.

I have 70lb to lose so there's a long way to go but I'm not feeling as lethargic and irritable as I normally do when dieting so I'm hoping I can stick with it.

NSV: I've been on a strong cocktail of drugs to control my BP which was still "elevated" around 140/90 but is now a healthy 120/80. Hopefully I'll be able to reduce or even get off the meds completely. When the scaremongers say we don't know about the long term side-effects of Mounjaro I always think maybe not but we do know the long term effects of obesity and high BP so it's a trade I'm prepared to make!

SevernWonders · 04/06/2024 07:38

I can so relate to the 'food noise' being gone. It is amazing.

I still find myself gazing into the fridge / cupboards looking for something, and then realise that it is just habit, and actually I don't fancy any of the rubbish I used to eat (and keep eating even thought I was full).

Is anyone else here taking Amitryptiline? I have found that I used to sleep solidly on it (taking for pain that used to stop me sleeping) but now not sleeping so well - I wondered if this might be my slowed digestive system?
