Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Weigh in day Week 13: Total loss 35lbs

SW (early March) 16 Stone 9lbs
CW 14 Stone 2lbs
GW 12 Stone ish

So that’s 2 1/2 Stone gone and I’m past half way 🙌

WannabeHealthier · 01/06/2024 10:33

re: providers, I’m more bothered about the prescription continuing under 25 BMI than I am about price. I had budgeted for £200 pcm and with the extra dose I’m already saving on the money set aside.

Asda who I’m with has a hard cut off at 25. My BMI has now dropped to 28.4 (from 33.4).

Which providers have indicated they will go to 23 BMI? I’m white ethnic background so the overweight BMI starts at 25 for me.

Choux · 01/06/2024 10:47

Options for those worrying about supply being cut off slightly too soon for them:

  1. start stockpiling. Order your next pen after 2-3 weeks and use the fifth dose so each pen lasts longer. You can then have a couple of pens in stock by the time you hit a BMI of 25

  2. exercise and build muscle. This will keep your BMI higher so you can order legitimately for longer. Muscle is denser than fat so a 150lb person with high muscle to fat ratio will be smaller than a person with a lower muscle to fat ratio. But they will both have the same BMI. And the person with the higher muscle ratio will have a higher TDEE so will burn more calories per day making maintenance a bit easier.

Decided to try Zava.
Been doing some searching and found @BigBessie discount code she posted a few threads back for 15% off which worked!

I have also been given a discount code for signing up. So if anyone wants to use Zava, this code gives us both 15% off!

REFUCH2Z

Making my order £164.64 for 10mg including postage. So cheaper than Asda with 10% discount and family chemist with postage.

Ahhh I was totally up for swapping then but it says code is invalid or expired @ObsidianTree 😟

kitz90 · 01/06/2024 10:52

So I’m 12 weeks in and have lost 23lbs.

I was able to get my engagement ring off last week which I’m thrilled about as it’s been stuck for almost 10 years and my wedding ring had to be cut off.

I have stayed on 5mg and am floored with tiredness. Is anyone else having this?

imnottoofussed · 01/06/2024 10:55

Can someone remind me what peppermint stuff they use for the sulphur burps?

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/06/2024 10:56

Rulay · 01/06/2024 08:27

@PissedOffNeighbour22 yes I had no warning either! No sore boobs or bloating or anything just went to the loo and there it was Confused it's made me feel a bit uneasy as I normally have the constitution of an ox and rarely get a side effect from anything - this is a really powerful drug we are taking!

Look feel sorry for me - I hadn't had one for 10 months! Thought it was all over, trying not to point the finger of blame at you MJ but it's a bit of a coincidence!

summerlovingvibes · 01/06/2024 11:06

How many clicks from a 5mg pen would I need to use in order to have half a dose (2.5mg)?

ChristmasLightsLover · 01/06/2024 11:08

@kitz90 I stayed on 5mg for a second pen as I found that there was so much tiredness. By week three I was improving. I just moved to 7.5mg and am wiped out. Sat on the sofa. Being patient. Knowing it will pass, eventually....

Hope you can have a peaceful weekend.

RagzRebooted · 01/06/2024 11:15

@kitz90 the first few weeks I found MJ was giving me energy, I felt great. Then the fatigue hit and it doesn't seem to be shifting. I've only just gone up to 5mg.
@summerlovingvibes a full dose is 60, so 30

PomchiK · 01/06/2024 11:17

evolute · 01/06/2024 10:51

@evolute you can try my Zava code REFKDB4G it should be 15%

summerlovingvibes · 01/06/2024 11:18

@RagzRebooted thank you. Am off on holiday and don't want to take a new pen with me so having to mess around a big with doses from a 2.5 and 5 pen.

Just starting 5mg, thanks for mentioning about tiredness as hadn't correlated it to the medication. Also had my implant taken out a few weeks ago so my body in all over the place!

MsClittirati · 01/06/2024 11:33

I have a 50% off code for Voy if anyone wants to use it we will both get 50% off.

I've had great results so far and am 33lbs down in just under 8 weeks (taking me from 15st 6 to 13st 1) which I'm so pleased with but I've just finished my first 5mg pen and I feel so nauseous on it. I was absolutely fine on 2.5mg for month one then ok the first week or two of 5mg but being sick once within 48 hours of injecting and this last week has been awful - warning for TMI coming up...

Really bad stomach, on the toilet often and it's very watery, near constant nausea with varying levels of how bad it is, vomiting quite severely within 24 hours of injecting, near complete appetite suppression which makes it hard to eat at all which in turn makes me feel rubbish because I'm not eating enough, and now sulphur burps 🥲

I know the clear answer here is to go back down to 2.5mg which I believe will be the best thing to do but I have a 5mg pen in the fridge - has anyone taken a half dose of the 5mg? And did it feel like being back on the 2.5mg? I'm considering delaying my next jab as I certainly don't need a top up of MJ yet.

ihatecoffee · 01/06/2024 11:52

One more week of hardly eating a thing and I've only lost 1lb!
Will my weight EVER drop faster?! 😂

ObsidianTree · 01/06/2024 11:53

evolute · 01/06/2024 10:51

Ahhh I was totally up for swapping then but it says code is invalid or expired @ObsidianTree 😟

That's weird. Let me check again. Maybe someone used it and it expired?

I think others should have codes too.

Continuing Mounjaro Thread 11
ObsidianTree · 01/06/2024 12:01

Also, re med express. I tried one more time to message them asking for a code and they said they have no codes but can offer £5 credit.

So will stick to Zava for the time being!

I feel like soon other providers will try and offer incentives to get customers to swap. So hopefully prices will be better soon.

lurkylurk · 01/06/2024 12:21

@Rulay @PissedOffNeighbour22

I've had the opposite effect!

After being 28 days like clockwork all my life, since becoming perimenopausal over the last couple of years mine had got closer and closer together until they were around 24 days apart with the odd 15 day cycle thrown in! And one 6 week one and pretty unpredictable generally.

Since starting MJ they seem to have regulated, first one was a 30 day cycle, next 2 were 27 days and 28 days. I'm quite happy about this as if it continues I won't have to go on the pill and take it all the way through before 2 holidays I have booked later in the year, I wasn't looking forward to doing that as the pill makes me nauseous and so does MJ, so may have been a recipe for disaster!

Will have to decide after next one as first holiday in late August.

R4ch402 · 01/06/2024 12:22

Just received my 10mg from Pharmacy2U and it expires in April 2025.

lurkylurk · 01/06/2024 12:24

@R4ch402

Any pens from 7.5mg up are new production and will have expiry dates next year thankfully!

lurkylurk · 01/06/2024 12:38

@evolute

The reason those are being sold on Amazon as "measuring tools" is because the seller does not have authorisation to sell medical equipment. (I have an Amazon business and you need approval to sell in certain categories, medical equipment being one of them) That means they are unregulated and may or may not be sterile, you will have no way of knowing.

Please buy from an authorised pharmacy or medical equipment supplier (can still be online).

FrancisSeaton · 01/06/2024 12:40

Finished my 2.5 pen and am starting to feel more hungry so ordered the 5mg
Dreading the side effects

Dilemmaskiddlez · 01/06/2024 12:41

Argh I ordered 7.5mg and it was fast track delivered and I was in all morning and they apparently tried to deliver but I didn't hear anything and now it's a failed delivery. Does anyone know if it'll likely go into a refrigerator at the sorting office or is it just spoilt now? I'm so upset. I can't afford to repurchase it again. It won't be redelivered until Tuesday now.

The pen is fine to be out of the fridge for 30 days so you can still use it. Were you planning to use it from next week?
