Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Good morning all you lovely people!
WI day for me- steady progress. I started on 1 April, so after 2 mo:
SW 85.3kg (13st 6lbs)
CW 77.3kg (12st 2.5lbs)
GW 70kg (11st 1lb)
My GW would put me at a BMI of 27.5 - I don’t rate BMI as a particularly useful measure, but no danger of being cut off! I am still in obese category at 30.2. I will need to lose 2.5 more lbs to finally get into overweight category.
But at least I am now more than half way to goal, so that’s something.
I go on holiday next week and I wanted to be at 77kg, so pretty close. I will be away for a week, but it won’t be a sitting around drinking cocktails kind of break, so my hope is to maintain. Jabs are planned for the day I leave (Weds) and the day of return (Thurs) so won’t take pen.

GloriaBunniford · 01/06/2024 06:28

Just weighed myself for the first time since starting MJ. I've taken 2 doses, and have been on it for 2 weeks.
I've lost 2 pounds.
2 pounds in my first 2 weeks.
I'm using Nutracheck and have been averaging 1,200 cals daily.
My BMI is just above 35 so I have a lot to lose.
I feel really disappointed. A pound a week weight loss on 1,200 cals daily for 2 weeks whilst also using MJ?
I'm sure I've got the world's slowest response to weight loss. (Edited typos)

RunningAndSinging · 01/06/2024 06:47

Well done @Moanranger.

@GloriaBunniford 2 lb in 2 weeks is fine especially as the 2.5mg dose is not supposed to be therapeutic. I lost less than that in my first two weeks and have stuck with it and am now so close to a stone’s loss. I am losing between 1 and 2 lb a week on 7.5mg. It all adds up.

NCfor24 · 01/06/2024 07:25

@GloriaBunniford I also lost 2lb in my first 2 weeks. I'm now 11 weeks in and have 2.5lb to go until I've lost 2 stone. Keep at it and you'll get there. No way would I have stuck to my calories without MJ.

Rulay · 01/06/2024 07:50

Oh god here's a weird thing. My regular as clockwork period seems to have arrived 9 days early Confused what is this now?!

Choux · 01/06/2024 07:56

Thanks @lurkylurk for the info on using medication past 30 days. It's definitely good to have facts around why that is a thing. And as someone who is not medical and doesn't usually need any liquid medications I don't have much knowledge in this area.

I was thinking to get the highest pens as they are cheaper per mg but with @ObsidianTree's latest post where she got a 10mg for £165 (same cost as my last MedExpress 10mg) I may stick to 10mg pens which will be used up quicker as I titrate down so the contamination risk is slightly lower. I am 20lbs off goal weight so not really a consideration for me yet anyway.

izzy2076 · 01/06/2024 07:58

@GloriaBunniford I was listening to a podcast yesterday and they were saying that the big losses at the start are just glycogen, inflammation weight and water. She said that those who don't do this early on, just have less inflammation. I don't know if that's cod science! One pound a week is what happens after the initial shedding, so it is working for you.

3wDavid · 01/06/2024 08:06

Morning!

Today concludes Week 1 for me.
Result - 4 kg / 8.81 lbs, which is WILD! Very pleased with that result.
Today is jab day although hunger suppression is still pretty on, so wondering whether to jab or postpone by a day or two.

Amazing! I think you must be a super responder, I'm hungry again after 2 days on 2.5mg!

3wDavid · 01/06/2024 08:14

Thanks @Rulay ! Not sure if it’s that or the fact I’ve had some virus/bug that I can’t to shake off all week long so feeling poorly and not much appetite 🤷🏻‍♀️

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/06/2024 08:22

Rulay · 01/06/2024 07:50

Oh god here's a weird thing. My regular as clockwork period seems to have arrived 9 days early Confused what is this now?!

My first one was 2 weeks late then all the others have been at least 4 days early. They're just all over the place now and I get no warning, which is annoying as it took until after the birth of my second child when I was 37 to have regular periods. Now MJ has trashed that 😄

Rulay · 01/06/2024 08:27

@PissedOffNeighbour22 yes I had no warning either! No sore boobs or bloating or anything just went to the loo and there it was Confused it's made me feel a bit uneasy as I normally have the constitution of an ox and rarely get a side effect from anything - this is a really powerful drug we are taking!

evolute · 01/06/2024 08:56

@Rulay yep mine arrived last week 4 days late. I’d had no symptoms in the 3 weeks I’ve been on it, but my god, those were the worst cramps since I was a teenager!

evolute · 01/06/2024 09:07

Advice on needles please! I’m worried the hard twist won’t work so I’m going to get needles instead I think. The ones recommended i saw are 8mm and 30g - I’ve seen these on Amazon which are shorter and finer https://amzn.eu/d/cRIMLHA
I guess I’m a scardypants with needles as it is, has everyone else using this method found it ok given they are thicker and longer?

WitchyBits · 01/06/2024 09:13

I want to order my first pen and get started but I'm so overwhelmed. I need to start in 2.5mg but where is the cheapest? Do I need needles? I have a sharps bin already so that's good and I'm not the slightest bit squeamish.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/06/2024 09:15

Last night I re-checked my measurements and can see I've lost:

6.5 inches from my bust 😓
7 inches under the bust
6 inches from my waist
6 inches from the fat apron
6 inches off my hips
3 inches from my thighs
2 inches from the bingo wings

It's good to see it's coming off consistently as I was worried it wouldn't and I'd still have a huge tummy/apron.

I tried on some dresses that looked tiny and they fit, although the tags do say they're a 16 so not actually that small 😄.

The dress I need to wear for a christening in July is still a little tight but it's now only tight around the boobs and fits well everywhere else. The back-up dress is too big 😧.

Soulstirring · 01/06/2024 10:01

@PissedOffNeighbour22 those are impressive numbers, congratulations

I’ve ordered at 7.5 from med express and wishing I’d gone for another 5. Debating whether to take my dose a day early to get the ugh out of the way over the weekend and not feel ruined for work.

FrancisSeaton · 01/06/2024 10:09

Hello does anyone have any med express codes 🥰

Soulstirring · 01/06/2024 10:13

Question - does the pen lock at 240 clicks or 4 uses?

Soulstirring · 01/06/2024 10:14

@FrancisSeaton the consensus seems to be medexpress have stopped codes 😩 many people on here are considering other providers for next orders

It's not exact as it's a bit more, but it's closer the 240 clicks. So you can do more than 4 smaller doses by clicking.

Are there any suppliers who don’t insist on informing GP ? I have kidney disease and understand the risks involved

Mayfair weightloss clinic, my dad’s wife who lives abroad ordered from there as she doesn’t have a UK GP.
