Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Weigh in day for me today. Week 9 (second week on 5mg)

SW: 263.6 lbs
CW: 240.8
Total loss: 22.8 lbs

I lost 2.8lbs this week.

Food noise is definitely creeping in second half of the week on 5mg - using a lot more willpower!

My losses per week in lbs:

  1. 7
  2. 1.2
  3. 0.4
  4. 2.2
  5. 2.6
  6. 2.6
  7. +1.8 gain
  8. 4.2
  9. 2.8

Btw this is going from reading the graph week to week - I changed weighing days about a month in so there might be a slight difference in what the exact weekly number was.

I really really want to get to 2 stone loss this week. That's my first mini goal.

Anyone seen zararaye_ on Tiktok?
Some interesting videos on getting the larger pens but counting clicks.
Not condoning it.......just saying.

MrsBurtMacklin · 31/05/2024 09:01

@montysma1 Congratulations!!!!🎉🎉🎉

I heard the bells from here! 😁

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 31/05/2024 09:04

Morning All

Jab 15 today - bonus dose from 5mg so more than 5mg but less than 7.5.
Side effects: feeling cold, achey legs, bit tired all the time.

SW: 98kg
CW: 89.5kg

Currently in a stall, 8.5kg loss is still more than 1lb per week (just), so an acceptable rate of loss. This week I had biscuits for the first time since starting MJ (not a good day, felt rubbish and the biscuits were a return to evening snacking), also had 2 small glasses of red wine and a single scoop of ice cream when I took the kids out - otherwise have been very sensible and focused on protein, fibre and veg. Really hope to see 88kg on the scales by next weigh in.

Have a great weekend!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 09:04

Just weighed in and I've put a pound on since last night when I had to have takeaway again as my DD needed the out of hours doctor late last night - typical to get ill just before we go on holiday!

Starting weight 15st 11lb 8oz
Last week's weight 12st 9lb 4oz
Current weight 12st 7lb

Despite the extra 1lb I'm really happy as I'm bang on my target for today. I wanted to be that weight for my 40th and holiday next week and it's nice to see the goal showing at 100% on the app. My bmi is edging closer to 30 and another few pounds off should see me hit the 'overweight' bmi which I haven't been in for many years.

Just checked MFP and I haven't been this weight since January 2016 🤯

I know I will put weight on while I'm away as the food choices will be harder to make and the only exercise I'll get will be walking. Will just have to deal with it when I get back, it's only a few days!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 31/05/2024 09:06

@montysma1 congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 what a success story! You have worked so hard to achieve that, well done.

Wonkypictureframe · 31/05/2024 09:07

Yay, @montysma1 ! And great to see that target for your holiday, @PissedOffNeighbour22 !

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 09:07

@imnottoofussed I forgot to say in my message earlier that no, I'm not having ridiculously low calorie intakes.
My TDE on my fitness pal says 1310 calories. I'm usually very close to this and am more likely to be over than under it. I'm still losing well and there's no way I could reduce my intake drastically and not feel miserable.

imnottoofussed · 31/05/2024 09:13

Congratulations @montysma1

And thanks everyone for responding to my post. Obviously I'm having one of those grumpy moments and getting jealous of everyone's successes Blush

montysma1 · 31/05/2024 09:19

@PissedOffNeighbour22 I remember being equally excited to pass 30bmi and be officially "just over weight"!

montysma1 · 31/05/2024 09:22

@lurkylurk Maybe I was flagged up with my error entry or maybe just depends on the pharmacist. They haven't asked me again but I have been losing at a set rate mostly .

Wonkypictureframe · 31/05/2024 09:25

Just to say the Oxford Pharmacy has a 15% code expiring today. Prices are the same as Med Express before the code think.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 31/05/2024 09:29

@montysma1 congratulations to you too. I can't imagine getting there.

Bananabuttons · 31/05/2024 09:36

I've woken up feeling great, no side effects as yet although possibly expecting those to kick in tomorrow. Im not at all hungry so haven’t had breakfast but still some food noise- it’s more ‘shouldn’t I really have something to eat’ rather than ‘mmm, I allowed myself to think about a biscuit and now I can’t think about anything else’.

I wanted to share what I’m doing instead of protein shake/drink. I use this one https://amzn.eu/d/34ozKNs which is about £30 on amazon and contains 38 servings. It dissolves in hot or cold and is virtually tasteless. I’m doing 2 teaspoons in a litre of cold water and adding a little dash of sugar free tropical squash but I think a dash of orange juice or even one if those fruit teabags that work in cold water would also be good. It’s totally clear, no bloom, dissolves with a vigorous stir. 43 calories and 11gr protein for 2 teaspoons which makes a litre.

Mumumof2boys · 31/05/2024 09:37

Anyone know of any discount codes for med express I’m going into my 3rd month

FlappyFish · 31/05/2024 09:37

@montysma1 Many congratulations, it feels so wonderful doesn’t it? YAY!

@PissedOffNeighbour22 sp happy for you! Isn’t it just amazing how we are all getting there? On weight loss threads you normally see folks drop off or get despondent. We may have stalls, but we are all on the right trajectory.

@imnottoofussed I get it. And there are some of us on this thread now (like me lol) who have been on MJ for three and a half months. But I will always keep posting the ups and downs. Keep going!

@montysma1

Ah, ok. I only know what the prescribing guidelines are. If you don’t mind me asking how much had you lost over what time period and what did they want to know?

Of course.
i have lost 10lb in just over two weeks, this is on 2.5mg of Mounjaro. Mine was purchased from Superdrug Online, now reading though some of these threads it was a little more expensive than others, however, I completed the form, they then requested a side photo of me, and an image of me on the scales showing my weight, within 24 hrs I had the first prescription of Mounjaro winging its way to me, the service was excellent. I have now ordered my second Flexi pen of 2.5mg and just received an email to advise me it will be with me today.
Please note, my large weight loss is perhaps due to the reaction to the first dose, or some bug I picked up, as it was quite terrible on the 4th day after my injection.
i have always used my tummy as the sight injection, and maybe thinking I should change to avoid some of the side effects.
😊

R4ch402 · 31/05/2024 09:55

Nice little NSV, can take off my jeans without unbuttoning them. Made me feel excited. Ordered my first 10mg last night. Ready to start that next week.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 31/05/2024 09:58

Just been to Tesco to buy some new jeans. Got into a 12.
I was a 16 before MJ
I can’t afford the injections anymore (Work days have been reduced) so will have to go it alone.
Im 15lbs away from target so fingers crossed I’ve changed my mentality around food etc so can do it.
Gold luck for the rest of your journey everyone.

I HAVE DONE IT!
There should be church bells ringing and fireworks!
After my body taking the piss all week and refusing to give up the last 0.4lb, I am finally under 25bmi!

Going to re set my target for 1 more stone!

Never thought I would see weight in the 140s again in this lifetime!
March 15th 182lb
Today 148.8lb.

(Last year did 204lb to 175lb on Ozempic.
2 years ago I was 221lb! So I am 73lb lighter since 2022!)

Edited

Huge, huge congrats!!!!

Thanks @FlappyFish, I've definitely been despondent at times 😄 but it's great that people are sticking with this unless their personal circumstances mean they can't. Usually I'd have given up within a couple of weeks. I just can't believe I'm now slimmer than before I met my partner and had my kids!

It's really great seeing people hit their bmi targets and shows us all that it can be done!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 10:18

@TheOverweightFortySomething congrats on reaching size 12. I'm sure you'll be able to continue your weight loss journey now you've made changes to your diet through MJ. Good luck ☺️

LatinaLondon · 31/05/2024 10:18

@montysma1 that’s fantastic! Well done 👏
