Continuing Mounjaro Thread 10

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

How do you inject yourself in the upper arm? I tried today and could not get the right grip at all to push plunger down. Gave up, changed needle and did stomach in the end. I'm always very worried about going into muscle rather than fat/skin.

AramintaTittington · 23/05/2024 18:26

Well done on all the losses!

I've taken my 4th injection of 2.5 this week and I've lost a total of 2 stone since 20 March

20 March - 23 April (ish) I lost 19 lbs following a healthy eating plan and lots of exercise and then switched to MJ towards end of April

Losses since ..

Week 1 - 4lbs
Week 2 - 2lbs
Week 3 - 2lbs
Week 4 - 1lb

I started at 14 st 12 and I'm currently 12 st 12.

I'm starting my second pen next week and I'm sticking with 2.5 again. It doesn't really suppress my appetite hugely tbh but it just removes the cravings and I'm maybe satisfied with what I'm eating sooner than usual - I could 'push past' that feeling but I was in the swing of weight loss when I started so it's helping there

@ObsidianTree

It's funny not seeing your posts in green! Are you having a lovely time over there?

Yes I am thank you 😊 spent most of today in the pool. The weather has been nice. Some rain but luckily it's still hot and there is sunny parts of the day. Also the rain only lasts a minute or two. So a lot better than I thought 😊

izzy2076 · 23/05/2024 18:45

These losses are great!

I'm week 10. I'm down from 82kg to 69kg! I think that's 12.5 stone to 10.8. I'm shocked at the speed of the weight loss to be honest. I want it to slow down as I don't want to be evicted before the guidelines change about maintenance losses!

Podcast recommendation: American glutton. Ethan Suplee is the most thoughtful, inspirational person I've ever heard talk about weight loss. His podcasts are really insightful. I'm really working on my understanding of obesity/maintenance etc and these podcasts have been so helpful.

montysma1 · 23/05/2024 18:46

Bit of a rant. Currently trying to check out prices for 12.5mg to see if anybody can beat Med Express, £209 . Then I would of course hunt the discount codes.

What pisses me off is how so many of them hide the dose prices. They want you to go through the consultations first. Or you have to do a magical mystery tour of the website.
NO!
PISS OFF I CANT BE ARSED!
Fill in the questionnaire only to find silly expensive prices.

Just tell us the sodding price up front! I won't pay rip off prices before or after a consultation so just bloody show the prices.

I have a horrible feeling any Med Express codes from now on won't include injectables, unless you've specifically been sent one. The new one I found today doesn't work for MJ, and that's about the only new code issued this month whereas normally there would be loads. Perhaps they've been losing too much money on them.

Morning all and happy weigh day. I would cry happy tears, but I’ve just whooshed and…

Start weight. 14.3 when ordered. 14.1 when taken on 17th February.

Current weight…

11.5!!!!

I am no longer overweight. I have lost nearly 3 stone in three months and I am no longer overweight.

Amazing news @FlappyFish ! Must feel amazing!

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 12:10

How was the flight, @ObsidianTree?

It was ok. Just exhausting! Had a stop over in Dubai and then 2 hrs from Sri Lanka airport to hotel. So pretty shattered yesterday and today! But great to be here and able to relax 😊

R4ch402 · 23/05/2024 18:57

Pharmacy2U has code TYBXQQ which is 10% off weight loss meds. Not as good as the med express codes but something off

KeepingUndercover · 23/05/2024 18:57

@montysma1 the having to do the questionnaire first is actually a recommendation of the pharmaceutical council lot. When I was checking out the various online pharmacies I saw that those who'd been inspected were told off if you could just go and select your weight loss thing straight off. It's meant to be more like a doctor appointment where you have to reel off what's wrong with you and then they suggest a prescription to help.

It's also why they'll give you a few options rather than just "have the Mounjaro".

@Youdontevengohere I haven't even told my husband.......he thinks our cat is diabetic😁

Edited

Bit late to this but 🤣🤣 that's hilarious 😂 bloody pampered cat getting the premium diabetic meds 😂

montysma1 · 23/05/2024 19:06

@KeepingUndercover Yeah but they aren't just letting you click and buy.
The ones with upfront pricing ( Med Express being one) still require a detailed questionnaire before prescribing.
@MelissaLouRocks Last two purchases I have emailed Med Express and asked for a code saying I can get it cheaper elsewhere and they have sent me one!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/05/2024 19:11

Has anyone else suddenly developed a reaction on the injection site?

I'm on injection 14 this week and the last couple of weeks I've had a large red patch develop around the injection site. Last week I assumed it was due to taking the extra dose with a syringe, but the redness is still there and is itchy. I used one of the crap medexpress needles this week and have developed the same red patch 24hrs after injecting on the opposite side of my stomach.

Ah I didn't realise some of them do show the prices. I thought they all hid everything behind the questionnaire so they could say they were being ever so careful.

ObsidianTree · 23/05/2024 19:16

Just catching up a bit.

I started reading that other thread but decided I didn't want to get angry on holiday so stopped! I'm intrigued but will refrain! It's probably the same as the other similar threads where no amount of scientific proof or logical reasoning will help thick people understand.

Re telling people about being on MJ, only my husband knows. My kids have seen me inject but not interested enough to ask what I'm injecting! My son asked once and I said my medicine and he asked no further questions!

I am on hol with lots of family. I haven't told them I am on MJ. They have all complimented me on my weight loss and asked what I'm doing and I have said I am counting calories. I do feel a bit deceitful as it's not fair people thinking that just counting calories works. As I know if I was calorie counting and not on MJ I wouldn't be losing much weight or my diet would be over by now! But I'm still not going to tell them. They are seeing me with my salads and protein meals and eating less, they must just think I have great willpower 😂

Hope everyone is getting on ok.

Well done to all the weight losses.

And welcome to all the newbies and newbies that have joined after that thread!

I did the same, but only for 10% sadly.

montysma1 · 23/05/2024 19:29

@MelissaLouRocks Bugger! They gave me a 20% one a couple of weeks ago. Dying to try it again but account locked till Monday. Will use it right awa if it does work although its way to early to need it, just in case it stops!

Oh good, glad it’s turned out nice for you!

RagzRebooted · 23/05/2024 19:46

I haven't started my 7.5mg pen yet, but I've just ordered my 10mg with MedExpress as I managed to get it for £165 with the STARTNOW code (which only took 15% off). Couldn't seem to get it any cheaper elsewhere, apart from Zava by about 50p.

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 19:46

@MelissaLouRocks

I thought the same, the only one that seems to work is the consult one, they had it with a different ending last month, so hopefully they’ll bring out another of them next month, but most of the other codes say they can’t be used with that product

No I hadn't ordered from them before.
Looks like TheFamilyChemist have 10mg for £169 (they don't supply needles though) and also have a £10 off code.

NEWBIE 😔
Anyone any advise, just finishing my first week on Mounjaro 2.5, no side effects, and still looking for my normal amounts of food, is this normal on the first week? Thought it maybe a good idea to increase to the 5 which I ready have.
love to read everyone’s experiences and achievements 😊

It's a loading dose, not a therapeutic dose. You need to let it build up in your system. You could potentially double up on your last week with the bonus dose, but I really wouldn't go to 5mg just yet.
