Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ADHDGURL - I think all our experiences are subjective. I’ve had the same suppression as most people. Same food aversions but I am absolutely not eating a bland, boring diet. My diet has been revolutionised! Honestly. That’s been the best bit for me.

FutureFeelsBleak · 23/05/2024 05:57

I'm interested in the medical benefits people have been posting about. I've been on meds for high blood pressure for years. I realised when doing some gardening recently that I kept feeling faint when I stood up, and started to take my blood pressure which showed it was too low. I've titrated off my meds, monitoring the BP, and it's looking good so far.

(I've also moved down from obese to overweight).

MrsBurtMacklin · 23/05/2024 06:31

Thanks @FlappyFish for the new thread!

I second lanzoprazole or similar for heartburn, and windeez or boots IBS and wind relief capsules for wind. You will probably find that the heartburn and wind symptoms ease as you go along too. Or only flare up when you eat certain foods.

I love that I am never even tempted to eat highly processed food anymore. I just don't fancy it at all, and I don't crave it. It's witchcraft!

Cerialkiller · 23/05/2024 06:46

It's really interesting to hear about the reduction is desire to shop. I've seen lots of posts here and elsewhere claiming that mj has finally allowed people to give up alcohol/smoking and other addictive behaviours. It kind of makes sense, it definitely removes the 'high' of eating for me so maybe it removes it for everything? Perhaps it could become a addiction quitting aid in the future too, food, drugs, porn. Wouldn't that be something!?

I'm day two after upping my dose to 3.75 (or I think so it's actually more complicated then I thought with the clicks. Somewhere between 2.5 and 5g anyway)

Lots of gas from both ends but got that nice warm full feeling this morning that I had in the first half of first week of 2.5. effects should peak tomorrow which is weigh in day. Praying for a decent loss after being stationary for a few days, it's been really hard to stick to the food side of things without my 'fuck it' mode activating. Need to stop weighing daily, it's getting obsessive.

BusyMummy001 · 23/05/2024 07:46

Just for the newbies - I find that after the initial big weightloss, my own scales tend to cling to the pounds! I’ll see that the weight sticks for a week to ten days will and begin to feel despondent, except that my clothes feel looser and DH comments that I must have lost a lot this week because he can see it on my face, or feel it when he hugs me… then all of a sudden you drop 2-3lbs. I seem to drop 7lbs in ‘chunks’ each month.

Not sure why this happens, but if you seem to stall, just keep going!

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 08:08

Morning all and happy weigh day. I would cry happy tears, but I’ve just whooshed and…

Start weight. 14.3 when ordered. 14.1 when taken on 17th February.

Current weight…

11.5!!!!

I am no longer overweight. I have lost nearly 3 stone in three months and I am no longer overweight.

Well done @FlappyFish !! Just weighed in after a week of the scales being stubborn with me - 2lbs more and a BMI of 28.9. Moving further away from the red zone. As a reward for breaking through the 30BMI mark, I’m treating myself to a spa morning today (first one in a decade) and a rejuvenating facial (but not because I have Ozempic face 🤣).

Do you have a treat planned?

Congratulations @FlappyFish 👏👏👏👏
That's an impressive timescale and inspiration - you must be so chuffed!

Perhaps when it comes to needing to re-order a pen your weight may have unfortunately "crept up" a bit 😉🤫

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 23/05/2024 08:14

Morning All

Week 13 (I think), on 5mg still and I've finally dropped below 90kg for the first time since before I had kids. I should be jumping for joy, and don't get me wrong I'm pleased, but just feeling a bit flat today. I have lost 9kg in the 3 months since I started on MJ.

NSV: Have put on a pair of skinny jeans that I bought in a local posh shop on sale that were too tight to do up, as inspiration when I first started on saxenda (which was not successful for me, nor was wegovy). They fit now. Not pretty around the tummy and too much like sausage meat squeezing over the waistband. But there's no denying they fit now.

Oh and super well done @FlappyFish !
That's an incredible pace of weightloss, you only started a week before I did. You must be delighted!

BusyMummy001 · 23/05/2024 08:24

hang in there @Everdecreasingcircumferences

I’ve made the mistake of buying ‘slim’ clothes only to find that when I’m slim they still dont really suit me anyway (tops esp, as I am rather short waisted, generously boobed). I’ve stopped doing that now - but those jeans are looking good! The ‘muffin top’ will be gone in a few weeks. Pop them back in the cupboard and check them out next month.

Normal to have a few flat days, even when you’re losing. Balancing up recognition of how far you’ve come can be hard when you’e taken a moment to think about how far you still want to go. I box that off and balance your reall achievement of that 9kg loss against a mini target of 5-7lbs, which will see you jumping around in those jeans next month.

hugs x

ChristmasLightsLover · 23/05/2024 08:26

<< waves >> Hello. Thread ten, already. Am so pleased we all have each other.

I'm on 5mg. Did a second round. Thinking about 7.5mg for next pen. Lost 14 KG so far, in 12 weeks. It's definitely slowed but that's ok. Feels sustainable longer term.

I'm feeling quite sorry for myself right now. Have a chest infection that's not moving. Second course of antibiotics and steroids. I insisted on fish and chips being brought to me earlier in the week. And crisps and chocolate. I ate them but didn't enjoy it. Why am I doing this?

I am deeply frustrated with myself. I am not moving so not burning calories and compounding the issue by eating shit food that won't make me feel good.

I miss walking and being out in fresh air. I am so ready to feel better and get back on track!

Sorry to moan. Am off to read threads and be cheered by our collective progress!

Oh well done you!!! I love it when this happens because it shows how hard you’ve worked. The time, money, effort invested - and all invested in yourself.

very very well done. I’m so thrilled for you!

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 08:36

@BusyMummy001 spa day sounds lovely. I don’t have Ozempic face at all either. My start BMI was over 30 too. (Had to be thinking about it. I think I was 30.4).

My treat may just be completing my payroll upload. 🤦🏻‍♀️ No, I shall find something.

@Madferitchick I just re-ordered. I have an unopened 5 and two 7.5. 15 weeks. Plus I now need to think about titrating down. I had real fear about being cut off.

@Everdecreasingcircumferences i bet that felt good in an odd way and I love the emoji choice. On feeling flat - I get it. I do not recognise my body. I know I’m slimmer. Yesterday i saw my legs at another angle and was a bit where am I?

I have spent the last 20 years thinking when I’m slim I will be happy. It was much worse when I was younger. It would make me confident. Attractive. Everything.

Turns out it just changes my body shape. I will post a load more on that later. Need to get out the house. But I will post something more as I suspect I’m not alone in that.

@ChristmasLightsLover That’s a good loss! Any loss is good. I’ve posted loads about my stalls and plateaus and yet here I am just after 3 months with nearly 3 stone down. It’s all averaged out.

I couldn’t have done it without you all.

That other thread and it’s naysayers are still going on… oh but this person (who is not a specialist in this area) said a year or so ago that they think people will put the weight back on when they stop taking medication… totally ignoring the recent research posted before it that says that only 17% of people losing weight this way do, compared to the 80-90% of those using ‘traditional’ methods!! FFS

giraffetasticc · 23/05/2024 08:42

After feeling fine on an intermediate dose of 3.75mg last week I’ve decided to move up to 5mg officially this week. I’ve noticed I’m definitely still getting full pretty quickly into eating meals which is helping with portion control however my wandering eye for sweet treats/ordering in food seems to be slightly returning! I feel like I’ve learnt my lesson though as I never seem to really get the same enjoyment or ‘food high’ from these foods now! I’m better off sticking to fruit and veg which at least gives me the smug feeling of having made a healthy choice!!

-1lb this week which takes me up to a total of a whole stone lost so far! And only 2.5lbs away from being in the 12st bracket for the first time since pre COVID I think? Hoping to hit that goal in the next few weeks as my weight loss seems to be slowing down and I’m wondering if I’m about to hit a plateau 🤔

Abigailandthefoxes · 23/05/2024 08:53

I hide that thread it was making me so angry. I do an active job I can cook properly but I can’t lose the weight without help.

today is weigh in day and jab 3.

lost another 3lbs

BusyMummy001 · 23/05/2024 08:56

@Abigailandthefoxes think I will hide it too - only just discovered that function! And bloody well done on your weight loss! 🎉 🥳

Yes completely agree with this. I've barely shifted in weight in two weeks but the last couple of days have really felt the difference in my body. Thighs not rubbing together, waist more defines, cheek bones appeared, rings looser etc. Its like physically we need to catch up to the weight loss. so there's a losing pounds phase and then a losing mass phase.

KeepingUndercover · 23/05/2024 09:01

@FlappyFish congratulations! How wonderful to have made it to the healthy weight category. That's fantastic.

Gazelda · 23/05/2024 09:04

Hello.

I've come across from that other thread. It is so aggressively insulting but this one seems supportive, knowledgable and kind.

I've not yet started my journey, I mentioned I'm considering it to DH last night and he wasn't keen. But we're going to research the different options tonight and I'm feeling quite committed.

I'm a boredom and comfort eater. I'm eat 3 meals a day plus snack at every opportunity. I'm hoping that the injection will help me to change that lifestyle.

pinktransit · 23/05/2024 09:22

Weigh in this morning for me, and I've tried injecting into my stomach rather than upper thigh to see if that makes a difference. 8th jab today.
SW: 12.6.6
CW: 11.4.2
GW: 10.0.0

Only a 10oz loss this week.

Measured today as well:
Waist: 36", now 33"
Bust: 42.5", now 40"
Hip: 42.5", now 40"
Thigh: 24", now 22.5"

I'm still a size 12/14, but at the lower end rather than the upper end. My jeans are definitely if not looser then better fitting. I think I may have been in denial about how tight they actually were. I deleted the photo that I uploaded to medexpress, so can't do a comparison which I'm almost sad about. The photo was so horrendous that I didn't want to keep it.

Well done @FlappyFish for getting into the green zone, that's amazing!
And well done to everyone else with losses, welcome to the newbies, this is such a supportive group.
Hugs to anyone that wants/needs them. Keep plodding on, every ounce off should be celebrated.

Marigolds24 · 23/05/2024 09:25

I'm also really interested by the loss of desire to shop as well as reduced desire to eat.
I've read a few people saying their mood feels a little flat too on MJ.
Do you think it works on suppressing our Dopamine?

montysma1 · 23/05/2024 09:27

@Waspwine You can do either. I use it to get 5 doses. But I also dose up after 1 week on each pen.

I have consistently got more than 1ml extra from each pen, I have measured with insulin needle to be sure. So there is well more than a dose left, more like 1.75 doses.
For example my 5mg pen had 28.75mg worth in it.
I took W1 5mg
W2 5mg
W3 6mg
W4. 6mg
W5 6.75mg

Which had me ready for my 7.5mg pen .

Stickthatupyourdojo · 23/05/2024 09:27

Yesssss @FlappyFish well done!!! How is it over there in green bmi land???

Also I love how it's mainly overweight people starting those threads about how we're all gormless lazy fucks who just need to eat less and move more! The lack of self awareness is hilarious.

Since starting 7.5mg my losses have kicked in much better, in 10 days I've lost 5 or 6 pounds whereas I was losing one pound every 7-8 days on 5mg. Now 10 stone 6, BMI is 26.7, woohoo.
