Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

It's a loading dose, not a therapeutic dose. You need to let it build up in your system. You could potentially double up on your last week with the bonus dose, but I really wouldn't go to 5mg just yet.

Thank you, I should perhaps not run before I can walk 😊

MelissaLouRocks · 23/05/2024 20:42

RagzRebooted · 23/05/2024 20:05

No I hadn't ordered from them before.
Looks like TheFamilyChemist have 10mg for £169 (they don't supply needles though) and also have a £10 off code.

Have you used the Family Chemist at all? I've heard good things about them and was considering moving over, as they're not too far from me so I could collect.

Well done everyone on your losses and NSVs! I’m down 15.7lb since 8th April which I’m over the moon with. I had my first 5mg dose yesterday and so far so good except from a bit of nausea

Sleepyquest · 23/05/2024 20:47

Hiya!
Due my first 5mg tomorrow but off on holiday next Friday and very nervous after hearing people say they've struggled with side effects or were fine the first week and not the second.

Can anyone advise on action I can take to ensure minimal side effects?

Thanks!

Sye · 23/05/2024 20:11

NEWBIE 😔
Anyone any advise, just finishing my first week on Mounjaro 2.5, no side effects, and still looking for my normal amounts of food, is this normal on the first week? Thought it maybe a good idea to increase to the 5 which I ready have.
love to read everyone’s experiences and achievements 😊

2.5 mg is designed to get you used to it. I’d take for 4 weeks then move up to 5mg as recommended. Otherwise you risk unpleasant side effects.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/05/2024 19:11

Has anyone else suddenly developed a reaction on the injection site?

I'm on injection 14 this week and the last couple of weeks I've had a large red patch develop around the injection site. Last week I assumed it was due to taking the extra dose with a syringe, but the redness is still there and is itchy. I used one of the crap medexpress needles this week and have developed the same red patch 24hrs after injecting on the opposite side of my stomach.

Yes my last jab has done the same. Still got a red itchy Patch five days later. It was my 8th jab of 2.5mg and first time it's happened

Perhaps I’m just the impatient type and just look for the long speed things up.
crazy I know, thank you 😊

Checking in! Thanks for new thread @FlappyFish and congrats on your amazing success, you’re a thinspiration! It’s weird not seeing @ObsidianTree green- glad you’ve had a nice holiday and managed to stick to it.

Cant believe how fast the thread is moving, half a day and 9 pages to catch up 😂

Another 3lbs loss for me at end of week 2 taking me to 8.5lbs.

evolute · 23/05/2024 21:02

Also..yes that other thread. Think a lot of us jumped on board in anger as some of them, eurgh! Makes me realise how lucky I was to find this one first and not that!

Im also noting they have less than 60 posts to go till it’s a dead thread 😝

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/05/2024 21:21

@susiedaisy1912 seems odd that it's started out of nowhere doesn't it. Hopefully it will die down and not cause further issues.

Youdontevengohere · 23/05/2024 21:22

Has anyone got any recommendations for calorie tracking apps? I’ve always used MyFitnessPal but now they just seem to want you to have the paid version so the free version is practically unusable

I personally wouldn’t risk it as it builds up and by week 2 you may have good suppression. You don’t want to risk vomiting or upset stomach. Start of a diet you are usually motivated so even if suppression isn’t really strong you’ll be ok as your initial motivation will carry you. Most people report some suppression on 2.5mg. Good luck.

Nutracheck paid version all the way. Hate MyFitnessPal. Nutracheck has uk products and a scanner.

Thank you, it’s so nice to receive positive support, I’ve not wanted to tell my family as I feel a little embarrassed that it’s a weak, cheating way to lose weight, but I was getting so fed up with the way I look😔
thanks again

I’m on 7.5mg having started mid match. Told no one in real life not even DH. They know I’m dieting. I’ve had 2 meals around 1000 cal today, the medication makes that possible. Do stick around the threads are supportive.

There's no moral victory in fighting biology and evolution!

Our bodies are not made to lose weight easily as up until recent history it was always an advantage to put it on when you could and hold onto it.

We all understand that here, no need to feel ashamed, the important thing is that you're doing something about it and it makes sense to do it in the least painful and most likely to succeed way. But I do understand your reluctance to tell others, I've only told my adult daughter.

It’s nice to learn it’s not just me, I feel quiet guilty, but yes, like you I’m trying to diet so as not to let the outside world see what I’m really doing.

Thank you, it hasn’t been easy over the years and because of my weight I feel I’ve missed so much, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure others have more to loose, I’m looking at 3 stone to feel happier in myself.

You will have to diet anyway on Mounjaro (i.e. stay in a calorie deficit) to lose weight, it just makes it a lot easier as you don't get the overwhelming hunger you usually get if you try to do that for a long time.

I've lost 10 pounds and have another almost 4 stone to go to get back to BMI 22-22.5 where I was a few years ago! There's no way I'd be able to keep a calorie deficit up for long enough to do so without Mounjaro and even if I could I'd be miserable trying.

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 22:00

@sye don’t feel guilty. It doesn’t just melt off. I’m on limited cals/making healthy food choices/10,000 steps/water.
Difference v cc without medication is I can feel well not absolutely starving on low cals. DH is currently eating Pringles in front of me and DD chocolate and I’m genuinely not tempted.
