Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Sorry my mistake, not much sleep!!

They've all got such stupid names, it's hard to keep track! I only know because I'm on the verge of ordering my next pen so was checking them all.

MelissaLouRocks · 23/05/2024 15:46

ThirdStorm · 23/05/2024 15:43

@Cerialkiller and @MelissaLouRocks I think its 8 weeks as I'm sure the questionnaire I filled out last night for my 3rd pen asked if it had been more than 8 weeks since the last. I guess if I ticked yes then I'd of had to explain so they could verified it wasn't a break.

They may have changed it then, as a short while ago a lady in the group had her prescription refused as it was 6 weeks and 2 days since her last order.

Wonkypictureframe · 23/05/2024 16:00

Congratulations, @FlappyFish and all the other people with such great weight loss and NSVs!

I’ve told DH and a few friends but it’s not really relevant to most people. I’m actively lying to my PT as she would be furious. But I am also looking to really up my weight work and have just started Nutracheck to drive my protein intake.

SW: 13.3
CW: 11.8
TW: 10.7

My weight loss has not been dramatic but it’s tangible and way more than I’ve been able to achieve in the last couple of years even through severe calorie restriction, so I’m happy. I very much suspect IR which is why I’m keen to see what 10mg delivers as that seems to be the dose that really starts to bring that down.

Wonkypictureframe · 23/05/2024 16:03

Oh, and the OP of That Thread seems surprised that ‘suddenly’ people didn’t think just eating less was sustainable weight loss. How has she missed the decades of criticism of the diet industry?!

LoulabellePeach · 23/05/2024 14:52

Thank you . It was actually pharmacy2u where they have come from!

Do check all the packaging I use that supplier and they are usually in a separate cardboard. I thought I didn’t have once and they were tucked in. If they have forgotten them they should send them.

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 16:09

@KrankyKumquat welcome and that’s a great result.
Lots are reporting positive impacts on all sorts of areas. A few threads ago those with autoimmune conditions were reporting improvements. It seems to reduce inflammation.
For me mounjaro has been better than hrt for perimenopause. I just feel so much more stable, no massive mood swings and feel well. As a result I’m more likely to stick to cals eg eating lots of carbs before period has gone and I’m walking more as I’ve got more energy.

Can I ask how long you were taking MJ before you started to feel the peri related benefits? I'm hoping for these too!

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 16:36

@Madferitchick pretty much from beginning. My actual side effects have been minimal but I haven’t pushed it foodwise.
I had a slightly longer gap in injections last week as I was away and I could feel my mood impacted.
I have been stressed and busy at work but genuinely feel much more on an even keel.
On my office days I used to need a snack in late afternoon and I’d often resort to texting family to have tea on table. I used to come rushing in hangry and family used to tease me. Now I can go from lunch to dinner at 7pm no issues.

WannabeHealthier · 23/05/2024 16:39

The aches and pains in my legs and feet are totally gone. I was struggling for a couple of years… every morning getting out of bed I hobbled around like a 90 year old. It’s amazing isn’t it?

I hope our new Government is brave with a new obesity strategy and widens access to these drugs. We’d have fewer sick days, less depressed population, it would cut the NHS spend by billions of pounds and keep people working and caring for themselves for longer. Surely it’s a no brainer. The only negative would be less tax revenue from processed food companies and job losses but this could be mitigated by pivoting to healthier food and portions.

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 16:40

I’m another that ticks boxes for insulin resistance (I didn’t know link with skin tags!)
I’m due to move up to 10 mg in 2 weeks.

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 16:42

@MelissaLouRocks half the morphine is a phenomenal side effect for you you must be thrilled.

Chucklesisters · 23/05/2024 16:54

R4ch402 · 23/05/2024 15:30

No worries. I watched this Youtube video and I realised I ticked every single box, even down to the skin tags which have popped up in the last year or so.

Then I went down a rabbit hole on the US MJ Reddit page and read that MJ targets increasing your insulin sensitivity and then you start to see more weight loss. So if you are insulin resistant it sorts that out, sorts out any inflammation (hence why some people have noticed their aches and pains are easing) and then weight loss is a nice side effect.

Thanks @R4ch402 ! I don’t have insulin resistance as per the list of symptoms but do have Cushing’s (unmedicated as NHS was uninterested in scanning my pituitary and adrenal glands for remediation). Might explain the slowpoke success story of mine on MJ.

Interestingly, given the location of the glands, I find injecting into the arm most successful in terms of appetite suppression compared to stomach and thighs (the last being an absolute waste of expensive elixir).

Same timeline for 10mg! Can’t wait to see real results (fingers crossed)

Thank you! I'm well into the menopause (hence recent struggles with gaining and not being able to lose weight). HRT didn't suit me so been struggling on without any help with symptoms. I'm feeling like my hot flushes are better this week and certainly my mood is pretty good. I was putting this down to quitting booze but maybe mounjaro is helping with this too. If so, it's a bloody miracle drug 😊

AgathaMystery · 23/05/2024 17:13

Sweet little NSV today - my hairdresser was like ‘OMG’ when she saw me. So that was nice.

well done everyone else on the losses and maintains. We will all get there.

HRT - I’ve found MJ has possibly made mine more effective. Always worth shopping about with HRT to find the right one.

I really am, I've been on it for 15 years! I have had a bit of a kickback with depression which is a known risk with opiates, but physically feel better than I have in years.

I gained just shy of 2 stone in 6 months last year mostly on my stomach. I’m peri so no hot flushes but honestly I feel so much better in myself.

Anyone else stayed at 2.5 instead of moving up dose? Finished 5 weeks of 2.5 and thinking of re ordering same dose. After a slow start it began to work(yippee)

Are most of you calorie counting? I know the injection is meant to make you less hungry, I just wondered if you're logging calories strictly, or if you just know roughly how much your intake is.

Strict calorie counting, I measure & weigh everything & I use Nutracheck.

MassiveSaladDodger · 23/05/2024 18:03

Hi everyone and congratulations @FlappyFish and to everyone else on all their losses!

I’m on week 3 of 2.5 and have had absolutely no side effects whatsoever but unfortunately not much appetite suppression since week 1, I’ve been eating pretty much as normal (including meals out and alcohol) with no problems though I do get full quicker/can’t clear my plate and I haven’t been snacking which is something.

I watched that video about insulin resistance and suspect that might be me too, I’m definitely not a super responder & not expecting much in the way of weight loss till I’m on the higher doses.

I’ve got a 5mg pen on the way but am debating either doing my 4th dose plus bonus dose together to move up a week early or (probably more sensible) doing my 4th dose tomorrow, bonus dose on Monday then starting 5mg the week after on schedule.

I’ve also been rolling my eyes at that thread in AIBU, if people don’t want to use MJ etc then fine but why the need for all the finger wagging and fake concern 🙄 I’m disabled so ‘move more’ is not an option for me unfortunately, I’m lucky if I can move at all!
