Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@sweetpickle2

I was about to say pretty much the same as @R4ch402 and there have been some on here that have found that it speeds up for them on the higher doses.

guestusername · 23/05/2024 10:44

Early WI today as off on my hols shortly!

SW- 14.12
CW 13.9 I’m not obese anymore 🥳
GW - don’t gain too much on holiday 😂

I had to buy an emergency jacket this morning because I think I sent my last one to the charity shop. I bought a size 14 and not only does it fit, it does up too 🤣

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 10:45

@guestusername

Have a fabulous time! Really well done on not being obese anymore, 3 more pounds to go for me to say the same so looking forward to saying the same in the next few weeks!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/05/2024 10:54

Morning everyone, well done for those going into normal BMI, haven't been there for 20 years I reckon. We are all so different, some of us have higher start points, age, body composition etc. I'm a slower loser but I feel a lot better at the moment than I have in a few years knowing I'm going in the right direction. Don't forget to use the Asda codes on previous thread end if you need to reorder. I've come to the conclusion (after tracking everything) that my body really doesn't need many calories at the age of 50. A very sad reality for me but at least this helps.

guestusername · 23/05/2024 10:58

Thank you @lurkylurk this holiday has been a long time coming and I’m definitely ready for it!

I will continue because I do enjoy the fact I have no food noise.

Yes, just hang in there. And you mentioned that you may be perimenopausal. If you're hormones aren't balanced that will increase your insulin resistance. I have PCOS so I'm insulin resistance because of that. And a way to help my PCOS is to lose weight so its all a big circle.

sweetpickle2 · 23/05/2024 11:09

Well you learn something every day!

Day after my first 5mg jab and I feel very nauseous- reminds me of the first few days of my 2.5mg jab!

Mencia · 23/05/2024 11:10

First week of 5mg and I thought the increase was not really working (did feel an empty stomach for the first two days although it is not as I was hungry, odd feeling) but I got my first eggy burp at 4am this morning so it looks like it’s working! 😜

Here’s a random question is anyone more focused. I’ve just burnt through something in about an hour that normally takes me five because I get distracted or bored?

ADHDGURL · 23/05/2024 11:25

Tusktusk · 23/05/2024 09:37

Can I please butt in to your lovely thread and ask: what do you mean by a bland / boring diet?
Seriously considering trying Monjarou or similar. I have a bmi of 31 and my feet and knees are affected by my weight. Yet I eat more mindfully and healthily than ever in my life and at age 50 I really struggle to drop any weight no matter what I do. Nothing is sustainable- I just end up starving and miserable.
Anyway, bland and boring - what does this exactly mean?

@Tusktusk my version of bland is toast/ grilled chicken/no heavy seasoning or sauces..homemade broths
I find on a emptier stomach its easier to eat/digest. I previously ate very spicy foods but due to zero appetite I don't miss it.

ObsidianTree · 23/05/2024 11:26

Just checking in 😊

Hope everyone is good 😊

Thanks for the new thread @FlappyFish

Yes, for me there does seem to be an effect on mood. Less anxious, just generally calmer. I don’t seem to be looking for dopamine highs (eg, eating, buying stuff) so much.
Also more focussed on tasks - I have powered through some serious weeding in the last couple of weeks!!👩‍🌾

Youdontevengohere · 23/05/2024 11:56

My first pen has arrived! I’ve opened up the package and it has only come with 3 needles, shouldn’t there be 4?

KW1987 · 23/05/2024 12:00

Hi All

Finished my first week and lost 5.6lb so really pleased with that!

Just taken my second dose and had issues with the plunger being stuck and not pushing down - would that be because it wasn't exactly on the 1? I managed to get it to work after 3 attempts and a wiggle! On the 3rd try I used a new needle but on the second I reinserted it under the skin without really thinking... will this be okay? I'm thinking it's not really any different to being pricked by a needle by accident but also feel a bit silly for getting in a flap and doing it in a rush!

Also, could anyone advise on how they found week 2? Week 1 was okay, with minimal symptoms but good hunger suppression (mainly felt mildly hungover without having had the wine) but want to prepare myself for the next week as reading through some weeks seem to be worse than others!

Well done on everyone for thier great losses so far! It really helps motivate you to keep going! I'm still in mind on whether I want to continue after this pen, but I have a long way to go and it really seems to be working for you all!

thanks ☺️

has anyone noticed disturbed sleep as a side effect? I’ve been waking up through the night for the past wee while since going up to 5.

I am very pleased with progress though- I have lost a total of 58 pounds thus far, just over 4 stone.

Yes, but it stopped after 4 weeks. Sleep well now.

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 12:10

I accidently reused a needle once and had no ill effects but it shouldn't be done really and i will be more careful next time. I believe the issue is an increased risk of infection so keep an eye on the area for redness/swelling if anyone is medical on here maybe they can clarify?

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 12:14

Thanks for all the posts. It’s a very odd day as this is kind of the first target but the idea of “healthy BMI” is mind blowing.

To treat myself I’m going to do an extra big Lush order and crack on with this payroll. Yay me 😂

Just checking into the new thread. Thanks @FlappyFish and congratulations on making it into the green. You are an inspiration for the rest of us on this thread.

So after having zero side effects or suppression from taking 3mg on Sunday, I was awoken through the night with the most horrendous stomach cramps and have been rushing to the toilet pretty much all morning. This is day 4 so I’m confused why all of a sudden I’m getting this and not even getting the suppression to at least make myself feel better about it!

Moanranger · 23/05/2024 12:15

This thread is so helpful!
I have been on 2.5 for 7 weeks and it has been working fine, but my last dose seemed to result in distinctly muted effects. I held to my calorie budget, but it was more of a struggle. Today, I took dose 4 from my last pen, and then half a dose of 2.5 (eg 1.25) from my next 2.5 pen by counting clicks (30). There is still some left in my old pen, but I will use a syringe to remove next week. There may be enough for a 3.75 dose (eg,9ml)
I haven’t had significant side effects on 2.5, but enough people reported bad side effects in jumping to 5, that I decided to go up step-wise, & thanks to the MJ thread hive mind, not a problem!
Will report back - it usually takes a day or two to really kick in.

Yes it is supposed to be 4 usually. Just contact your provider and they should send out another box. I did this and then it didn't appear so i asked again and two got delivered in the end so i have 8 spare needles. Good as i'm planning on breaking up doses especially at the end.

Cerialkiller · 23/05/2024 12:17

Does anyone know about the 30day limit for keeping the pen out of the fridge after using? I'm planning on breaking up my does going forward and i'm mitigating the time limit by keeping the pen in the fridge for a week or two after fist using it. Does anyone know about if this is worthwhile or pointless?

I have done dose 1. Easy enough! Feeling a little bit panicky though. Feels like a big step.
