Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks for the new thread.

Going to take my 3rd 7.5mg this evening. Lost 3lbs this week which is great for me as I've been losing a 1lb a week. I injected into my arm for the first time last week so going to try the other arm tonight.

CiderJabs · 23/05/2024 09:29

@FlappyFish congratulations! You must be our first 25ver!!

I started my second 5mg on Monday and yesterday I had the most awful taste in my mouth for the whole day. Very bitter and dry mouth. Was not expecting it as I've not had much side effects lately.

Have read evil thread again and am taking it as trash tv. Useless crap and just laugh at peoples ignorance. That's the best way not to get wound up.

livingwithpmdd · 23/05/2024 09:33

Congratulations @FlappyFish so lovely to see people make such great progress!

Welcome @Gazelda we're a nice bunch. Took me months to pluck up the courage and read everything before ordering but I'm so glad I did and wish I'd done it sooner!

Tusktusk · 23/05/2024 09:37

ADHDGURL · 23/05/2024 00:06

@BusyMummy001 yes I agree..its time to face the facts.. unhealthy foods do not agree with me.. post weight loss I will hope that the sheer hard work it has taken will motivate me to make better/cleaner food choices. I've had a lot of years of indulgence..that said I'm at the lowest weight in over a decade and I feel..better than I have done for years. The choices should be easy.. but nothing related to food is for me.
One of the most amazing things being on this medication is how the food "noise" has stopped.
I'm no longer planning lunch at 9.00am.. dinner at 3pm.. weekend brunch on a Thursday morning..I've stopped thinking about food, and I don't miss that! Even though I knew I was overweight and I knew losing weight would probably make me feel better the food "noise" in my head made it really hard.
To anyone struggling with hunger, real or habit, anyone who's health is being impacted by food/weight..I would recommend Monjarou..but only if you are disciplined enough to follow a bland/boring diet. This isn't a eat what you want but smaller amounts diet, it is a lifestyle change. Deviations from the recommended bland diet will result in the dreaded side effects which so far I've avoided. I hope this helps anyone reading.

Can I please butt in to your lovely thread and ask: what do you mean by a bland / boring diet?
Seriously considering trying Monjarou or similar. I have a bmi of 31 and my feet and knees are affected by my weight. Yet I eat more mindfully and healthily than ever in my life and at age 50 I really struggle to drop any weight no matter what I do. Nothing is sustainable- I just end up starving and miserable.
Anyway, bland and boring - what does this exactly mean?

KeepingUndercover · 23/05/2024 09:43

@Tusktusk the bland thing really isn't universal. I eat all the (healthy) foods I ate before without issue. I've had no problem with my usual spicy foods like curries, chilli and so on. I do avoid very creamy dishes but I wasn't a big fan of those even before MJ. I'd much rather a tomato based sauce.

R4ch402 · 23/05/2024 09:44

Gazelda · 23/05/2024 09:04

Hello.

I've come across from that other thread. It is so aggressively insulting but this one seems supportive, knowledgable and kind.

I've not yet started my journey, I mentioned I'm considering it to DH last night and he wasn't keen. But we're going to research the different options tonight and I'm feeling quite committed.

I'm a boredom and comfort eater. I'm eat 3 meals a day plus snack at every opportunity. I'm hoping that the injection will help me to change that lifestyle.

Welcome!

Just do as much research as you can. These threads are a great start as we are super realistic. Some are rapid losers, some like myself are losing slowly, some have had awful side effects whereas some people havent. So it's a really balanced view of MJ in here.

MJ helped me to stop snacking, and really helped me with intermittent fasting as I no longer spend the days thinking (dreaming) about food.

No matter what you choose to do, all the best with your weight loss journey.

thank you so much I am delighted.

Congratulations @FlappyFish !!!

A normal weight range is amazing!!!

Crack on with that payroll, girl !!!

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 10:04

@FlappyFish

Fantastic news! I can't believe how fast you've done it too, I'm 8 weeks in and just about lost 10 pounds, but plugging along!

@Everdecreasingcircumferences

Well done on the NSV with the jeans.

I have big built in wardrobes that are now completely stuffed as I put on weight quite rapidly over a few years and refused to get rid of smaller clothes as hoped to one day get back into them and now have 4 different sizes (10-16), even underwear! Fed up of no room in there but still don't want to get rid of smaller ones so decided to take out 10s and 12s and vacuum pack them and store in the garage.

Doing that exercise has revealed a few things to me.

The first is how tiny I used to be! (I'm 5'8" so a size 10 is pretty slim at that height) Looking at some of the pairs of jeans I can't believe I used to fit into them and also can't believe that I still thought I could do with losing a few pounds back then! I had moved up to a 12 in some clothes due to normal slight midlife weight gain before really started piling on the pounds.

Second is how much in denial I had been about the extent of my weight gain.

Third, which follows on from that is just how far I still have left to go. At current rate of 10 pounds in two months it would take another 11 months to get to my target weight!

I can't really afford to keep paying for that long so I need to speed things up a bit I think, I'm also hoping that the higher doses will bring slightly faster loss as they have for some, but struggling to go up in dose due to side effects. Injecting today a day late as hadn't slept yesterday and stomach was a bid dodge so seemed like a recipe for disaster to do it yesterday. Did 4.25mg last week and suffered badly on second day but thinking of doing the full 5mg today to move things along.

So, it was a bit depressing, but do also feel that at least there is the possibility of getting there this time!

ACJD · 23/05/2024 10:06

Im thinking of stopping Mounjaro. Im on 7.5mgs and have lost 11lbs only. The side effects have got better the higher the dose for me. I should be dropping pounds for all I eat. I don’t understand it. Not sure if I should stick with it and order 10mgs. But I’m really not dropping the weight like I thought I would. I’m not diabetic and I’m 208lbs so I’ve plenty to loose! Anyone in similar situation.

R4ch402 · 23/05/2024 10:07

@lurkylurk I completely understand about wanting things to speed up. At my rate it'll take me over a year to get to my target weight. Just take comfort in that you are on your way to your target weight. And as you said the higher dosages may speed things up.

Same, I've only lost 11lbs and on 3rd week of 7.5mg. I'm going to continue all the way in the hopes I lose more with the higher dosages.

@ACJD If you've lost 11lbs and are currently on 7.5mg, that means you've lost 11lbs in just over 2 months? That is a good rate of weight loss!

I think because a lot of people talk about their very large quick losses it can sometimes feel like you're losing slowly- when if you compare it to trying to lose weight the old fashioned way there's no comparison... it would personally take me about 6 months to lose 11lbs through willpower alone!

That's just my thoughts anyway :)

montysma1 · 23/05/2024 10:10

@FlappyFish Well done on hitting healthy BMI .
I am10st 12lb and need to hit 10st 10lb to "graduate" to healthy.
Nothing moving this week so far. Raging!
This last 2lb will be the bloody death of me!

I lost the first 8lbs on 2.5mgs and the other 3lbs on 5mgs and 2 weeks of 7.5mgs. But for the amount of food I eat I should be dropping weight faster.

sweetpickle2 · 23/05/2024 10:13

It will always slow down- the increased doses aren't to make you lose more weight, they're because your body has got used to the previous dose. I think the fact that the higher doses have bigger numbers can make people think it should ramp up the weight loss, when actually the opposite is probably true- same as any diet.

I get it is frustrating though! Are you tracking what you actually eat- amount of calories, amount of protein etc?

User2460177 · 23/05/2024 10:13

FlappyFish · 23/05/2024 08:08

Morning all and happy weigh day. I would cry happy tears, but I’ve just whooshed and…

Start weight. 14.3 when ordered. 14.1 when taken on 17th February.

Current weight…

11.5!!!!

I am no longer overweight. I have lost nearly 3 stone in three months and I am no longer overweight.

Wow - really well done @FlappyFish

User2460177 · 23/05/2024 10:16

has anyone noticed disturbed sleep as a side effect? I’ve been waking up through the night for the past wee while since going up to 5.

I am very pleased with progress though- I have lost a total of 58 pounds thus far, just over 4 stone.

No not tracking calories because I know I’m not eating more than 1400 cals a day. I have a good idea about calories done calorie counting last year. I know I need to up my exercise but Im so tired. I do night duty and have young kids. I’m 41 also wondering if I’m starting perimenopause.

Hi all! The ‘other’ thread had the opposite effect to the one it intended and it encouraged me to finally order Mounjaro yesterday. It arrives today! Start weight is 12st13lbs. I have 7 weeks before visiting family abroad so hoping to settle down into it before then.

That's an incredible loss!

@ACJD I lost a fair bit less than others to begin with, I also didn't suffer too badly from side effects. I posted earlier but I haven't really changed how I'm eating or exercising since starting but my losses have sped up since starting 7.5mg, so if you're not suffering with side effects and can afford it (I'm mindful these things are certainly not cheap!) I'd personally plough on and try 10 as that could be your sweet spot. I've seen similar reported on the American Reddit MJ thread, bit of a theme that certain titrations seem to suit different people. I lose more in a week now then I did the first 3 weeks of starting.

@User2460177 my sleep was atrocious when I was on 2.5mg but I've had no issues since.

Also for those that experience localised reaction to the injection, I reported previously that I had this quite badly when I moved up to 5mg. I've now done 2 x 7.5mg and while it leaves a little red mark it's no where near as bad as it was for me on 5mg. Weird!

If you have insulin resistance the higher doses have been found to make you lose more weight which was shown in the MJ trials and studies. And a lot of the reason why some people find it difficult to lose weight is because of insulin resistance.

The MJ trials showed that more people lost the most weight on 10mg and 15mg doses. Obviously it's very individual as lots of people lose on the lower doses but there is reason to titrate up with the hope of losing more.

Well thats my hope anyway lol
