Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Moanranger

The MJ thread hive mind, love that! 😂

It's true though, it's like we can figure out what works through trial and error so much faster than we could on our own, especially with so many of us and at slightly different stages.

Many congrats on reaching your goal @FlappyFish you've worked so hard and bloody well deserve it. 🎉💐

Hi all, wondering if someone can give me a bit of advice? Been following these threads for a while , I bit the bullet and ordered . It has came today with no needles . Where could I buy these from please ? It does have a sharps box which I thought was odd! .. it has also come with 14 Levothyroxine tablets, I am thinking they have put these in my order by mistake?
what size needles do I need please?
thank you! Can’t wait to start this journey! Going to be a bit longer wait though now!

I'm also really interested by the loss of desire to shop as well as reduced desire to eat.
I've read a few people saying their mood feels a little flat too on MJ.
Do you think it works on suppressing our Dopamine?

This wasn't intentional, but does appear to be a beneficial side effect in some people. I'm AuDHD, and it's made a huge difference to my clarity of thinking. I'm struggling a bit with my mood, but believe that's due to phased withdrawal of other meds. They're apparently getting very exciting results trialling MJ in alcohol and substance abuse.

These are the sort of needles you’re looking for. https://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/shop/products/glucorx-carepoint-pen-needles-32g-4mm-0150489?

But I would just email your supplier and tell them they forgot them. I’d also complain about the medication going in because a pharmacy sending prescription meds when you didn’t order them is very serious.

Hi everyone. What a lovely inspiring and motivating thread.
I took first 2.5 jab on Saturday and so far, so good.
As well as food, I'd really ramped up my alcohol use over the last 3/4 years and was on a bottle of wine a day. Haven't had a drink, at all, for 11 days! I was pretty determined to address both my eating and drinking at the same time and, although I know 2.5 isn't a therapeutic dose, I'm thinking it's already helping as I've had no cravings, including during this second week, despite living in a household with another drinker. I know there's been some research into the impact on other addictions so I'm hoping this progress is real. Pretty chuffed to have lost 6 lbs after first week too 😄

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/05/2024 15:01

@User2460177 wow that's an amazing loss, well done.
Yes, I've been struggling with sleep. My sleep is usually terrible anyway but it's even worse on MJ.

@FlappyFish congratulations - that must be an amazing feeling.

MelissaLouRocks · 23/05/2024 15:02

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 10:04

@FlappyFish

Fantastic news! I can't believe how fast you've done it too, I'm 8 weeks in and just about lost 10 pounds, but plugging along!

@Everdecreasingcircumferences

Well done on the NSV with the jeans.

I have big built in wardrobes that are now completely stuffed as I put on weight quite rapidly over a few years and refused to get rid of smaller clothes as hoped to one day get back into them and now have 4 different sizes (10-16), even underwear! Fed up of no room in there but still don't want to get rid of smaller ones so decided to take out 10s and 12s and vacuum pack them and store in the garage.

Doing that exercise has revealed a few things to me.

The first is how tiny I used to be! (I'm 5'8" so a size 10 is pretty slim at that height) Looking at some of the pairs of jeans I can't believe I used to fit into them and also can't believe that I still thought I could do with losing a few pounds back then! I had moved up to a 12 in some clothes due to normal slight midlife weight gain before really started piling on the pounds.

Second is how much in denial I had been about the extent of my weight gain.

Third, which follows on from that is just how far I still have left to go. At current rate of 10 pounds in two months it would take another 11 months to get to my target weight!

I can't really afford to keep paying for that long so I need to speed things up a bit I think, I'm also hoping that the higher doses will bring slightly faster loss as they have for some, but struggling to go up in dose due to side effects. Injecting today a day late as hadn't slept yesterday and stomach was a bid dodge so seemed like a recipe for disaster to do it yesterday. Did 4.25mg last week and suffered badly on second day but thinking of doing the full 5mg today to move things along.

So, it was a bit depressing, but do also feel that at least there is the possibility of getting there this time!

Where do you inject @lurkylurk?

I've always used thigh or arm until last jab and I used stomach, which turned out to be a big mistake. The worst I'd ever had in side effects was one day second week feeling cold and nauseous, but day I jabbed and day after this week was actually sick. And to top it off put on 2lbs, which isn't my cycle as post menopausal! Hadn't changed my dose, so I'll definitely be going back to thighs!

Just thinking a change of injection site may suit you better?

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 15:06

@MelissaLouRocks

I've always done thigh and daren't change right now as other sites seem to be more likely to have side effects!

I already had some gastrointestinal issues before starting MJ so it's hardly surprising really and it's tolerable, just hard to move up but getting there slowly.

MelissaLouRocks · 23/05/2024 15:12

R4ch402 · 23/05/2024 10:36

If you have insulin resistance the higher doses have been found to make you lose more weight which was shown in the MJ trials and studies. And a lot of the reason why some people find it difficult to lose weight is because of insulin resistance.

The MJ trials showed that more people lost the most weight on 10mg and 15mg doses. Obviously it's very individual as lots of people lose on the lower doses but there is reason to titrate up with the hope of losing more.

Well thats my hope anyway lol

Thanks @R4ch402 I didn't realise that. I highly suspect I'm insulin resistant, so would make more sense of my results so far. I shall plod on and hope for the best. 😊

Abigailandthefoxes · 23/05/2024 11:15

Here’s a random question is anyone more focused. I’ve just burnt through something in about an hour that normally takes me five because I get distracted or bored?

Absolutely. I'm AuDHD and feel like I did when I first started to take meds. Much more head space.

lurkylurk · 23/05/2024 15:26

Definitely need to get next dose done, just found myself eating a couple of chicken meatballs out of the fridge and some crisps! Not the whole packet and I've only had one meal but definitely hungry today and everything seems tempting in a way it hasn't in a while!

No worries. I watched this Youtube video and I realised I ticked every single box, even down to the skin tags which have popped up in the last year or so.

Then I went down a rabbit hole on the US MJ Reddit page and read that MJ targets increasing your insulin sensitivity and then you start to see more weight loss. So if you are insulin resistant it sorts that out, sorts out any inflammation (hence why some people have noticed their aches and pains are easing) and then weight loss is a nice side effect.

Signs of Insulin Resistance – Do You Have Them?

When you have insulin resistance, your cells do not respond to insulin properly. Insulin is the hormone that moves energy-rich glucose from the foods you eat...

Oh! I've just checked my savings account, I already have enough for 5 month if I take into account the discount making the pens sub-£150ish Might be able to get to 6 months!! That takes the pressure off! That will get me through October assuming 5 doses per pen.

Does anyone know how late I can order my next pen from Med express? I've just had my first reminder. I've only just started my 5g pen and I don't want a massive stock pile yet.

You need to leave no more than 6 weeks between orders with Med Express, otherwise they insist you go back to 2.5mg.

CONSULT-BUNNY is still working for 15% I believe, plus 8RA54K may give you an extra £5 off. You should be able to use these together.

My pain and inflammation has improved since the first week, am now on less than half the morphine I was at the start.

It's CONSULT-BLOOM that works rather than bunny. I've just double checked and it's still working.

ThirdStorm · 23/05/2024 15:43

@Cerialkiller and @MelissaLouRocks I think its 8 weeks as I'm sure the questionnaire I filled out last night for my 3rd pen asked if it had been more than 8 weeks since the last. I guess if I ticked yes then I'd of had to explain so they could verified it wasn't a break.
