Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I’ve noticed some aches but then I painted the garden fence this weekend! ha! Seriously though, no new aches since I’ve been taking MJ but what I have noticed is less hair is falling out (this year I’ve shed loads and my hair is noticeably thinner) and I’m sure it’s improving my anxiety.

Pops1985 · 27/05/2024 08:30

Entering my 7th week (second at 5mg) and down exactly 28lbs. This thread is really keeping me going, it’s great to feel like there are so many of us pulling in the same direction. I still have quite a lot to lose, but I really believe this time I’ll do it. Also slightly stockpiling to hopefully keep going when I finally hit GW.

SW- 288lbs
CW- 260lbs
TW- 182lbs

1lb off for me this week making 6lbs in total over 5 weeks. I had been hoping for 2 and it is frustrating knowing that some people have lost that amount in one week but it is going nowhere, it seems fairly steady at a lb a week so at least now I can project where I will be & when, even if it is much further away then when I did this after the first week when I'd lost 2lbs and had hoped to carry on at that pace.

BlackFriYay · 27/05/2024 08:45

Could i pick somebody's brains please? I'm getting a bit upset. I almost certainly have undiagnosed dyscalculia and my brain goes into meltdown when I'm faced with anything mathematical.

I've weighed today. The scales say I'm 1.6lbs down and my current weight is 159.9lbs. My scales only use kg or lbs, whereas I best understand and follow stone + lbs, so I use websites listed on Google to translate it.

I've used three different websites to convert today's reading to stone and lbs and they've given me three completely different results ranging from 11 st 3.9 lbs to over 11st 6lbs.

It has completely thrown me and means that I might not haven't been logging the figures right for for weeks, am heavier than I thought and now don't have a clue what I actually weigh.

What I want to know is, how can different websites translating the same number give different totals? And how much do I actually weigh? 🤯

3wDavid · 27/05/2024 08:46

Good morning. I must have caught a bug because I woke up with such sore throat and headache, appetite is non existent. I tell myself that’s totally normal when you’re feeling poorly. Just focusing on drinking water and herbal tea (with some honey and lemon) today. Don’t think I can stomach any meals.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 27/05/2024 08:49

@BlackFriYay 140 pounds is 10 stone exactly, so 154 is 11 stone. So that works out as 11st 5.9

159.9 lb is 11 stone 5.9 lb

11 x 14 (pounds in a stone) = 154
plus 5.9

The issue with the websites is that they’re converting back and forth in decimals and rounding leads to errors. They are a real nuisance as non that I’ve found actually converts lbs or kgs into stones AND lbs! Have become adept over the last year at converting (but I’m not dyscalculic, just ADHD LOL) 159.9lbs is 11 st 5.9lbs though!

Congrats on the weight loss!!

BlackFriYay · 27/05/2024 08:56

Thank you so much for the help ladies, much appreciated. 11 stone 5.9 lbs it is. That means I've lost a total of 2 stones and 3lbs in 11 weeks.

I think I had better stop looking for stones and lbs conversion and just stick with the lbs on the scales, I can see the weight trend going down so that'll do for me. (I also have ADHD which exacerbates the stress I feel with numbers🙈)

Infinity234 · 27/05/2024 08:58

I’m having a real wobble this morning over ordering my first lot yesterday. I keep wondering whether to cancel. Ugh I hate my indecisiveness and how panicky I get!

Madferitchick · 27/05/2024 09:01

Thanks for all the feedback re aches. Still here this morning, think it is the Mj so hopefully will settle down 🤞🏻

End of week 3 for me and 11lbs down. Having used my fourth dose early I'll be using the hard twist dose tonight meaning I've had a split 5mg dose...depending how that goes will try moving up next week. Have both the 5 and 7.5 pens in the fridge now as ordered the multipack from health express.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Eyesofmistyblue · 27/05/2024 09:14

Gained 2lb on my first week on 5mg. Feel awful and very disheartened. I’m hoping it’s because of the provera I’ve been taking which finished on Friday and the drop in hormones really affected me over the weekend. Felt starving and very emotional. Now just waiting for a period to come which will hopefully put me back to equilibrium. I am trying to tell myself hormonal fluctuations will happen but it just feels like the same backwards steps I always experience when trying to lose weight

DesparatePragmatist · 27/05/2024 09:29

1.5kg off (about 3lb) at the end of week 3 on 2.5mg, 4.7kg off overall. Not a superstellar rate of loss, but at around 1.5kg a week that's more than I've ever managed previously for this long, by now I'd normally be stalling and sabotaging. I hope it keeps going at this level (but based on experiences on here I'm sure it won't!).

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 09:44

@BlackFriYay one of the things I like about Nutracheck is the weight tracker on it toggles between kg, stones and lbs, and just lbs. So I can easily see what everything is.

imnottoofussed · 25/05/2024 11:49

@DownWithThisKindOfThing myvitamims sell a protein gummy I haven't tried them so can't vouch for them I just get vitamins from them.

If you use my referral code you'll get £10 off a £30 spend. I'll get £10 credit if you use my code www.myvitamins.com/referrals.list?applyCode=LOUISE-R1QI

I can't recommend the MYPROTEIN clear whey enough though it is like drinking cordial/juice and helps get your fluids and protein in. The code there gets you £20 off a £40 spend and free delivery www.myprotein.com/referrals.list?applyCode=LOUISE-R9AB

I sound like I work for them but honestly don't. I've used myvitamims for a few years. Currently take their collagen, ashwaganda and evening primrose. Protein I'm drinking the orange and mango clear whey.

I’ve been wanting to take ashwaganda but not sure if it should be taken int hr morning or evening?

I've seen lots of people reccomended nutricheck. I've been using MFP but it's a bit iffy. I've just downloaded the app and will give it a go, thank you :)

montysma1 · 27/05/2024 10:00

@BlackFriYay I used MFP years ago and thought it was great but now it seems to have gotten more and more clunky and annoying to use. Switched to Nutracheck in March and it's so easy to use I am much more inclined to log, which is good for me.
MFP is too much faff.
I would say buying Nutracheck is money well spent given how much we are investing in Mounjaro.

Abigailandthefoxes · 27/05/2024 10:07

DesparatePragmatist · 26/05/2024 20:22

I would absolutely love this to happen! I'm taking my 4th dose this evening so very much hoping for some if the same next week. So far, I've actually felt more tired and finding it difficult to get going yo do things, so a bit of hyperfocus would suit me down to the ground. Was it just that one burn, or is it still working?

It’s constant. Was away this weekend with my partner (he knows I’m on the drugs) and kept commenting I was more focused, alert and present. Instead of getting really distracted.

He’s been brilliant as he’s super healthy as he’s a professional sports coach so has gone through menus with me helping me decide on better choices even if he is shocked to his core that I’ve not touched chips or ordered pudding.

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 10:10

This last week I really felt like 5mg was not doing as much for me, halfway through the second pen. So last night I decided to do a 7.5mg dose from it instead. I can get two out with what was left in the pen so I don't regret not going up to 7.5 immediately after the last pen as I really was only just getting to grips with that increase.

Not weighed in yet today, I'm expecting to stay the same. Not because I've massively overeaten or anything. I've just felt quite bloated all week so think it's going to be a plateau week. Hopefully that will pass soon!

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 10:21

I seem to have put 3 pounds back on, aaaargh! It is totm but that usually only adds a pound really, feel I’ve been eating more the last couple of days, still two meals but larger and even been some snacking which couldn’t do before.

So, going to move up dose fully and hopefully the gradual titration I’ve done should fend off the worse side effects I get and track more.

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 10:29

Hope going up works for you @lurkylurk. That 3lbs won't be fat gain, should come off pretty fast.

KeepingUndercover · 27/05/2024 10:31

I've managed a small loss, 400g or a little over half a pound. I'll take that! I'm going to track food a bit more this week given it's half term. Make sure I'm getting a decent balanced diet.

ThirdStorm · 27/05/2024 10:31

@BlackFriYay @montysma1 i still use MFP and once configured it’s great, I really like the nutrients and weekly progress reports. I do use nutracheck to record my weight as I really like the way it displays progress and my goal - more motivational than MFP. I can use that bit for free too.

3wDavid · 27/05/2024 10:41

Ugh. Low point this morning, I still have a headache but was also feeling so nauseous that at the end I made myself sick. I hate the feeling of being nauseous. I blame this on MJ and the 3 mini beef meatballs I had for dinner. Note taken - no beef. Even the tiniest amounts. It’s either that, or the virus which gave me a sore throat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any suggestions what to eat today? I feel better after I vomitted. Want to take an ibuprofen for my headache, but don’t want to do it on an empty stomach. I can’t face any proper food right now. Would a banana do? Ughh I must say I’m not enjoying this, what a miserable morning 😩

Investinmyself · 27/05/2024 10:53

@GloriaBunniford Wow what a side effect for you. That’s life changing.
I’m not taking anything for constipation. I took aloe vera tablets at first every other day. But 2 months in things have settled down. Lots of water helps me.
