Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@3wDavid if you can’t face food I’d have a shake I like those purition ones someone recommended on an early thread. They aren’t sweet/artificial tasting. I add frozen berries too.
Or protein yoghurt is my go to.
It might be fat but beef if they weren’t 5% mince. I can tolerate low fat mince fine.

I’m having a real wobble this morning over ordering my first lot yesterday. I keep wondering whether to cancel. Ugh I hate my indecisiveness and how panicky I get!

Honestly it’s normal to feel nervous. Maybe tell someone close in real life if it makes you feel better.

Investinmyself · 27/05/2024 11:04

I’ve still told no one in real life. DH has just commented how small my breakfast was. I am eating but portions are visibly smaller.

I think a lot of us have felt the same I had it in the fridge for almost a week before I plucked up the courage. I’ve had no side effects at all except being nearly a stone lighter

SlenderRations · 27/05/2024 11:19

Question for people who use syringes for the extra dose - I am being a wimp about needle length. All the ones I can find have 8mm or even 12mm needles, compared to 4mm on the pens. do you just only push the needle in half way? Am I over thinking this!?

imnottoofussed · 27/05/2024 11:28

@Abigailandthefoxes I take mine in the morning with my other meds didn't realise there may be a reason to take it at other times Smile

Mrsmounjaro · 27/05/2024 11:49

Dosent look the best 😬 but it's high protein and less than 300 calories! Before i took my 1st jab last thursday, idve easily put away 3 of these bagels- now 1 is more than enough

Thanks @Abigailandthefoxes , it sounds like you're doing brilliantly. I'm really scattered mentally so living in hope!

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 12:02

@SlenderRations

Put it in at a 45 degree angle is the usual advice.

MassiveSaladDodger · 27/05/2024 12:09

Hi all and congratulations @Rainbowl

just wondering if anyone could confirm how they store their pens as I’m a bit confused by conflicting information, which I think might be due to the U.K. and US having different pens. For us in the U.K. using the KwikPen am I right in thinking a new, unused pen needs to be in the fridge until you do the first dose but after that it can be stored at room temp for 30 days?

Yes that's right. If it's out of the fridge it should be stored below 30 degrees too. So if you're somewhere very hot it needs to be in a fridge.

Absolutely gutted this morning as I think I’m going to have to stop taking MJ. I injected 3.33 on Saturday and spent all day yesterday being sick which carried on all through the night every hour til 6am. This happened before when I tried 3.75mg. Last week I did 3mg and had no effects at all. I just can’t go through this every week, it’s horrendous.

luckily I’m off work today anyway but I have a busy job and a young family with loads of activities and I just don’t have 2 days a week that I can be chained to the bathroom

I’m genuinely really upset as it has worked well. I don’t know whether to keep going on a lower dose and hope or at least does something but I worry that’s a waste of money

I don’t understand how most people can move up the doses without issue and I can’t go over 3mg without being as sick as a dog. Any advice or is that just it for me and MJ?

GingerNugget · 27/05/2024 12:58

Took my first shot last night and felt very sleepy afterwards. This morning I have felt a bit fuzzy headed like there is a weight behind my forehead which I am assuming is the brain fog. I am not enjoying that much but hoping it will go away.

I ate a breakfast roll with egg, mushroom and potato scone for breakfast, ate it fine and it was ok but didn't get the usual food pleasure fireworks I get when I eat which if I am honest I missed.

I don't feel like I am craving my usual cola or chocolate but I think it is probably a bit of placebo effect at the moment as I think it takes a day or two to kick in.

We will see!

I’m sorry you’ve had such a poor reaction. Does 2.5 work for you? You could keep going with that if you’re seeing results?

Gained 2lb on my first week on 5mg. Feel awful and very disheartened. I’m hoping it’s because of the provera I’ve been taking which finished on Friday and the drop in hormones really affected me over the weekend. Felt starving and very emotional. Now just waiting for a period to come which will hopefully put me back to equilibrium. I am trying to tell myself hormonal fluctuations will happen but it just feels like the same backwards steps I always experience when trying to lose weight

Do you weigh daily? I find it helps immensely as it's clearly shows the hormonal gain followed by a drop. If I only weighed once a week I'd definitely show a gain some weeks whereas the day after "official" weigh day I may drop 2lb. That's happened this week as you can see on my graph which probably explains better.

Investinmyself · 27/05/2024 13:51

I’m a daily weigher definitely helps you know your yourself and your patterns. One thing I have noticed is I don’t have the big spike ups I did pre mj. Dieting before if I ate out - nothing too wild I’d spike up 3lb or big spike at time of month. I’m now on a much more even keel.

NCfor24 · 27/05/2024 13:56

@Investinmyself the same...my weight would jump when I ate out whereas now the gains are totally hormonal. My period is now totally irregular but the gains tie in to the day or so before I come on.

The loss of the rush or food pleasure was weird at the start, it was almost like I never knew I had it until I didn’t any more. However 5 weeks in it just feels normal now. I can enjoy stuff but not get a “hit” and feel the compulsion to eat more

WoolyMammoth55 · 27/05/2024 14:26

@Ghilliedu Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish. If you were losing on 2.5mg then could you carry on at that dosage? Are you having any other benefits at 2.5mg?

Tusktusk · 27/05/2024 14:42

Hello everyone.
I’ve just ordered my first pen. Never done anything like this before. I’m worried about the following:
Cost - I can afford it (just, as long as I’m very careful with my budget and sacrifice other things) but it seems a lot of money on something I ought to be able to do myself (although I clearly can’t or I would have!) and I feel guilty for not saving it / spending it on my kids.
Being judged - I don’t intend to tell anyone, not even my partner. Not even my best friend. I don’t think they’ll understand.
Side effects - I don’t want them!
Injecting myself - 😧
Effectiveness - I have low belief in anything as I have been struggling with extra weight for so long now.

This is just me expressing my feelings to people who get it - thank you for reading!

Waiting for approval but I have no reason to think I’ll be rejected, with a BMI of 32.8.

Thanks for this thread. You’ve given me a tiny chink of hope (and a huge hole in my bank balance 😆)

I weigh every day for the first few days after injecting as that’s when I see results but then in the last couple of days I tend not to because I don’t lose! I hadn’t weighed in a few days because I knew I’d have gained what I lost earlier in the week. That’s a good way of looking at it so I will hopefully see it come off shortly. In my head I know there’s ups and downs and you need to just focus on the overall downward trend but I just want to get into the next stone bracket

Whatsyourstory · 27/05/2024 15:31

Hi all, I've taken my very first dose today and feel no different. Still as piggy as ever and craving food! When did everyone start to feel different in a positive way? Thanks!

Bananabuttons · 27/05/2024 15:58

@Tusktusk i feel exactly the same as you! Just about to order mine as I’ve been away. My BMI is 31.2
i told my husband that I was planning to do it and it’s helped so much. I was really worried about his reaction because he (and his whole family) are naturally thin, have never had to watch their weight. My husband has a degree in biology and is quite scientifically minded avd pragmatic but I thought he’d say it was ridiculous to use drugs aimed at diabetes etc.he was actually really supportive and it was such a relief to tell someone IRL. We can’t really afford it either but I always put myself last and as he pointed out investing in your health is so important to our family as a whole. My kids need me to be mobile and healthy above everything else. I’ve decided to see it like using nicotine patches if I was trying to give up smoking- I don’t think anyone would judge me (or he expense) for that. Good luck!

Trytowin20 · 27/05/2024 16:21

Hi everyone can I join? I've ordered my first pen with med express Sunday and I've already been notified it's on it way and due out tomorrow 😲 so that's impressive... though TBF with my weight and picture you don't have to look hard to see I need it! I used the CONSULT-BLOOM code to bring down the cost a bit.

I'm finding it difficult to bear the cost though I can afford it as I don't usually get anything for me and it's feels a bit opulent I suppose. I'm looking at it like an investment in me and my health though. My husband knows and is supportive and has helped me to actually buy it rather than umming and ahhing over the cost.

Hoping for more voucher codes to soften the blow 😁
