Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Now that sounds interesting! Has that lasted throughout?

I’ve been on it for almost four weeks and really noticed it this week but it’s great I just full more alert and my focus is better.

Whatkindofworld · 26/05/2024 20:09

My losses are slow too. About 1lb every 2 weeks! I’m going to 10 in 2 weeks too.

I would absolutely love this to happen! I'm taking my 4th dose this evening so very much hoping for some if the same next week. So far, I've actually felt more tired and finding it difficult to get going yo do things, so a bit of hyperfocus would suit me down to the ground. Was it just that one burn, or is it still working?

That’s still better than 0lbs! Slow and steady is great. Have you had appetite suppression? Have you counted calories?
I found it really easy to stick to my calorie limit the first 2 days after taking my first injection but my hunger has come back today. I’ve still managed to stay under my goal of 1200 but it’s been harder today!

lurkylurk · 26/05/2024 13:08

@Exitstrategist

Really well done!

If you don’t mind me asking, you must have had a BMI below 30 to start with? Was it above 27 but with other conditions to be prescribed? Just being curious.

Above 27 but with other conditions. I desperately need to stay on a maintenance dose… so scared they will stop prescribing. Don’t want to tell lies but not sure what I’m going to do…

NCfor24 · 26/05/2024 21:01

@Rainbowl that's fantastic! Congratulations!

MeAndMounjaro · 26/05/2024 21:02

How often are people needing a little help from a laxative like Dulcolax? I took one last week which gave a good yield 😜but I've not had another trip in 6 days. I don't feel constipated currently but there must be something needing to go! I know sometimes things can be slower after a laxative so I'm not wanting to over rely but I'm taking Colon Cleanse everyday from H&B plus lots of Chia seeds as well as the usual roughage plus good fluid intake and feel like it can't be great to be going this long!?!
Wk7 Day 5 at 5mg

Scalessayeek · 26/05/2024 21:20

Congratulations @Rainbowl definitely one of the better reasons to be coming off early. Biscuit

GingerNugget · 26/05/2024 21:59

@Infinity234 Well done for taking that first step!

@Investinmyself Ok I will take it tonight😬 wish me luck!

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa Thanks for letting me know, I'm on HRT as well but I will order some supplements tomorrow.

Ghilliedu · 26/05/2024 22:08

Congratulations @Rainbowl what lovely news!

BlackFriYay · 26/05/2024 22:14

Somebody asked what others with ADHD are doing to get a dopamine hit now we're no longer getting it from food, for me at the minute.. it's buying clothes and curating a whole new wardrobe consisting of funky dungarees and lots of colour.

I'm conscious of sustainability so I get the vast majority of my things on vinted, and I donate all of my 'now too big' stuff to charity and resell the things in BN condition.

I've always had to have something in my life that gives me that 'yay, dopamine' hit iykwim?

It used to be chocolate and lots of it. Then cigarettes which I packed in last year. I vape now and really enjoy it but somehow it's not enough and I'm always on the hunt for something else to bring me more joy.

My last obsession before the dungarees was collecting novelty cups which I can barely fit in the cupboard, the one before that was collecting those Anne Geddes sleeping baby teddy things.

I'm waiting in hope of the day the side effect of culling compulsive spending comes my way 😵‍💫

BlackFriYay · 26/05/2024 22:16

And a massive congratulations to you Rainbowl - what wonderful news. I hope your new addition brings your family so much joy after the terrible time you have all had recently.

All the best for the future x

FlappyFish · 26/05/2024 22:17

@Rainbowl Congratulations and very best wishes.

@MeAndMounjaro I use senna fairly frequently to keep me regular. I had real constipation issues early on. It has got a lot better as my body has adjusted over the last three months to a much different diet.

@3wDavid I was also like that in early days. Couldn’t really eat. Made myself and focused on protein. It has eased a bit. But I’d be lying if I said I had more than a handful of days where I had an appetite.

BBQ today. Very easy. Made chicken breast taste more interesting for once.

I’ve started getting the “you’re not going to lose more now are you?” And “you will stop that injection thing now you’re slim?” Comments.

I know it comes from a place of love and I would get some comments from family anyway without MJ. I’m not sharing my weight with them but I know I’m noticeably slimmer.

I just tried to explain I probably look slimmer as they’ve seen me lose two clothes sizes quite quickly and I won’t be taking it long term anyway as we can’t. :/

Good evening!

Huge congrats @Rainbowl - lovely news!

Can I ask if anyone else is experiencing aching joints?! I'm
Not sure if this is peri menopause or MJ but my knees, hips, shoulders are all really aching 😖

imnottoofussed · 26/05/2024 22:40

I've just got one elbow hurting at the moment and was wondering if it was mounjaro or peri or age

Yes I did for the first week or two, seems much better now in week 5. Especially noticed it in ankles and wrists.

MoreThanJustANumber · 26/05/2024 23:32

Congratulations @Rainbowl I remember your other thread and I'm so glad to hear how positive you are after all the stuff you've been through in the last few months. Hope everything goes well for you. X

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 00:02

@3wDavid

Don't worry about the bruise, I've had them a few times. It just means a small burst blood vessel which can either be because you happened to hit a small blood vessel, took the needle out at a slight angle which can cause very slight bleeding under the skin and therefore a bruise or it can be from slightly low quality needles (I've found the ones MedExpress send tend to make me bruise so bought other better quality ones). Whatever the cause a small bruise at the injection site is no cause for concern, I've been prone to bruising in the past when having blood taken too.

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 00:04

@Rainbowl

What lovely news after what has been a hard time for your family!

The 7.5mg can just stay in your fridge, I believe the expiry is April next year on those so if for whatever reason you aren't breastfeeding you could use it then and if you are breastfeeding, in the grand scheme of things it's not that big a deal to have to throw it.

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 00:06

@Madferitchick

I had this after first 2-3 injections, especially achy legs, seems to have mostly gone now, maybe still a little bit on day after injection.

lurkylurk · 27/05/2024 00:13

@CoffeeWithMyOxygen

Those syringes are 1ml in total so 0.6ml will go to the 60 mark in them.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 27/05/2024 00:14

@Madferitchick if anything, I am aching less and feel more supple. A lot of the swelling which I always have in my feet and ankles has gone down too.

DesparatePragmatist · 27/05/2024 01:03

I've had a very achy time of it in the 3 weeks since starting. Never been sure it's the MJ causing it, but I've definitely had leg aches in the first week, and back/hip ache since. I'm a bit prone to these anyway but they've got worse - which could just be coincidence.

ObsidianTree · 27/05/2024 04:34

Congratulations @Rainbowl ☺️ lovely news. Although I'm sorry you are having to leave us

GloriaBunniford · 27/05/2024 06:46

I have really bad IBS and have spent 10 years having diarrhoea 3 - 4 times a day, every day, each time being stuck on the toilet for half an hour. It's so bad it makes me late for work, late for the school run and late for getting out of the house for set times like appointments or meeting up with friends at set times. It's really been impacting on my life for years and years. I've been investigated by GP, had blood tests, and been told it's IBS and there's no treatment available.
Well I've only taken 1 dose of MJ last Tuesday and the diarrhoea has stopped completely! I'm now only going to toilet once a day and it's not diarrhoea anymore.......I haven't experienced this for over a decade!
