Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thank you all for this amazingly inspiring and supportive thread. My youngest son is 10 today so that marks 10 years of being overweight/obese for me. I’ve decided to go sljy take the plunge. I’ll order on Monday as I’m away for the weekend.

I’ve been thinking about how much being fat has limited me over the last few years and it’s actually really sad.

Apart from the obvious health benefits of losing the weight, I’m really looking forward to the confidence it will bring. I’ve been meaning to meet up with some school friends for ages but I can’t face people thinking ‘wow, she’s really let herself go”. Other things like I need to replace my engagement and wedding rings which were lost, it’s perfect timing because I’ve been married for 20 years this year but I can’t face buying beautiful rings for my fat podgy fingers.

i used to horse ride, really quite seriously and would love to start again but it’s not fair to be this heavy on a horse.

I’ve realised I’ve been limiting myself and feeling like I don’t deserve to lead a full life because I’m fat. I would never feel like this about someone else who is overweight by the way but somehow the shame I feel has led me to hide away and not expect much.

Im so hoping this will change.

This is exactly how I’ve felt too. I’ve avoided all sorts of social events because I don’t want people seeing how I’ve ’let myself go’. I tell myself that I absolutely don’t care about the weight of my friends, I just want to see them and spend time with them, but I can’t seem to apply that to myself. I’ve limited myself so much because of being overweight and I don’t want to live like that any more.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/05/2024 09:23

Wishing you all a fab bank holiday weekend.

Thought I'd share a NSV, I don't really do photos as I don't like seeing myself however I was putting hand cream on last night (I'm very scaly!) and realised how different my hands and wrists look compared to when I started MJ in mid March. The first photo I took in my first week of starting. Second photo last night. If I didn't have the first photo of my stamped mitt I'd not have noticed.

Just a little update, I’m so pleased I took everyone’s advice to not move to 5mg, early hours of the morning I woke up having very unpleasant stomachache and not been off the loo for the last 6 hours.
i have some chocolate last night, does anyone think it may of been that? Or is just catching up with me.
thanks everyone

Just an fyi my next 5mg pen arrived today from med express and the expiry date is Sept 24

I sort of cycle between being a bit bunged up and a weekly clearout… i found that the ‘clearout’ happens about 48hrs after the jab for me so used to take my jab on a Friday so I was at home, near the loo, on Sunday. However, 13m on, it hardly ever happens and not to the epic proportions of those first 2 months, so be reassured it will pass. The trick is to make sure you have easy to digest fibre in your diet (fruit/veg/salad) - or take a supplement like fibogel - as that helps prevent the ‘bunged up’ stage. Obviously, if you’re not eating as much, your digestive system slows down and you need to go less often… but honestly, if you are eating healthy food it’ll pass and your body will adapt.

I’m biased, but but’s not the chocolate!

Thank you, it’s not the best feeling, I’ll get the fibre gel and see how I get on, today has been rough so far, feeling shattered.

This has been me. I think my DH has had less fun/felt relationships with his now married mates has been impacted by the fact he has a wife who refuses to go to couple things (there are a couple of right cows in the WAGS, though, in my defence). As I near goal weight I am trying to summon up the courage to suggest some summer BBQs/parties, like we used to have so that DH can reconnect and show off the house/puppies that he’s so very proud of. Feel I can withstand the cows a bit better and would love to see some of the others. Nearly all of us are on the brink of empty nests as youngest head off to uni, so it would be nice to have a life again.

Weigh in day here- week 12 (I think!). Lost another 3lbs this week which I’m surprised by, taking total loss to 33lbs.

SW 16.9 stone
CW 14.4 stone
GW 12 stone?

@Bananabuttons this is exactly how I felt too

Its amazing the differences we notice. I'm not a massive one for photos either but I've got young kids and I'm trying to get in the picture more.

On holiday and every picture hubby takes I think wow that's a great, flattering angle- then realise it's just how I look now 🤣

3wDavid · 25/05/2024 10:15

Quick question- obviously MJ suppresses appetite, food noise, cravings and it seems everyone is eating healthier and smaller meals. But for those of you with those amazing losses, do you also exercise a lot? Or at all?

This is me as well. My weight has stopped me doing so many things, and it makes me sad. This is the number one reason I take MJ - I want a full life.

I've not exercised at all in the 8 weeks that I've been on MJ and I've lost 20lbs. I do have a tread mill which I must get back on but have been wiped out with exhaustion since starting the jabs and when I do have any energy I have been gardening. I am in awe of people on less than 1400 calories per day than can work out as well. Although I've just found out via a blood test that I'm low in B12 so that probably doesn't help my energy levels.

lurkylurk · 25/05/2024 10:24

@Youdontevengohere

Re. carrying weight around the middle, where at least 70% of mine is, the good thing seems to be that mine is coming off there.

I'd only lost 10 pounds (totm next day or two so that seems to have reduced to 9 pounds😂) and I'm tall too so that is really not much, However I've lost 2 inches of my waist which I find amazing, and really glad that's where it seems to be reducing.

Will miss having bigger boobs though, mine are tiny when slim! If only I could choose where the weight comes off.

Re. missing out on social activities, I feel the same. My friends really don't care what size I am (except that they can see it bothers me) but I have been avoiding some activities involving a wider circle and especially people I haven't seen for years as I can see the shock on their face as I was always slim previously.

We have a big garden and usually hold several barbecues in the summer on hot days (when you're dressed the skimpiest!) and I was kind of relieved when it rained pretty much every weekend last summer and we didn't have any! Hopefully will be better this year but I need to hurry up, in my fantasies of my lovely slim future thought I'd have lost double that by now!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/05/2024 10:25

@Scalessayeek I love that! Know what you mean about making an effort to be in some photos because of young kids. I am going to try and do the same.

@3wDavid I don't do any formal exercise but I've tried to really increase my steps (talking hundreds to thousands, not 7k to 15k or anything) and as silly as it sounds I've started doing exercises like calf raises and side bends when brushing teeth, boiling the kettle, washing up. I do laps of my kitchen when my microwave is going lol. I figured I may look like a dipstick but it's all movement I wouldn't have done before

lurkylurk · 25/05/2024 10:27

@MelissaLouRocks

Yes, think I'll get my order in a bit early before the end of the month in case a new one doesn't appear! (Helps with the stockpiling too, shhhh.....)

I don't know if I count as one with great losses. 16lb and I started 1 month ago tomorrow.

I haven't done much exercise at all. A very slow 20minute cycle with my 6year old 3 times a week on the school run. One brisk 30minute cycle every fortnight for my evening class and a bit of street football with the children but mostly walking speed.

In my experience exercise tends to stall weightloss. My plan is to get close to goal and then up the exercise. I have a vague plan to do a 10k at some point so will start jogging. It really helps fitness and flexibility and with stopping general aches and pains. It NEVER works for weightloss for me.

I think weights is better then cardio as an accompanyment to dieting and to preserve muscle mass but I'm no expert and I imagine these things are very personal as to what works.

I don't know if my losses are amazing - 20lbs in 8 weeks. But I lift weights in the gym 3 times a week - except I haven't lifted at all the last 3 weeks as I hurt my neck and it's only now just feeling okay enough to lift again.
I am a teacher so am on my feet most of the day - nothing strenuous, but I do hit my steps goal most days.
I really want to start walking more too.

I don't think though that my exercise has contributed much to my weight loss - there's that saying, "you can't outrun a bad diet". I've completely changed what I eat - my diet is mostly protein and green foods. I'm doing weights to try and gain muscle/prevent muscle loss and just to be generally stronger and firmer!

MsClittirati · 25/05/2024 10:29

How early do you reorder to stockpile ?

do you switch supplier ?

I am only coming to the end of week 1 and wondering when to order pen 2 and if I should switch suppliers to get another offer.

I also really don’t want to run out of there is a shortage.

Wonkypictureframe · 25/05/2024 10:48

Especially as women get older, resistance exercise (eg weights) are way, way more important than cardio, even without weight loss. It helps strengthen bones and maintain a decent metabolism (or achieve one!). You don’t need to be down the gym every day. There’s a great Zoe podcast on exercise in menopause. You can do small things like ten squats every time you wee, push ups against the wall etc just to build in some muscle work.

Be careful about ordering too early if it means you have a long gap (6 weeks) between prescriptions as you will have to go back to 2.5

I know you’re talking about stockpiling, but just something to bear in mind so you don’t leave too long between prescriptions.

@Bananabuttons
I have lost 40lbs to be able to ride my daughter's horse.
I used to ride years ago and fancied getting back into it.....I was doing most of the graft and none of the riding!
I was never a very good rider and I am still rubbish, but after a 30 year gap I am back in the saddle . Petrified but I am doing it !

I have called MJ my horse diet!

Morning, just ordered another 5 mg from med express and they emailed to ask why I wasn’t titrating up to 7.5.

can anyone please suggest if there are protein tablets you can take? I can’t abide shakes, powder etc and with my appetite being suppressed again I’m concerned about not getting enough protein

Smokedsausagesupper · 25/05/2024 11:27

Hi all
Ordered this morning from Med express so waiting for it to be prescribed at the moment.
Half excited and terrified!!

I weighed myself yesterday for the first time since way before covid and was shocked at my weight of 14st 3lbs..
At 5ft 2 I look basically square shaped 🤣

I have managed in the past to lose weight and am normally pretty good once in the 'zone' but it creeps back on every time..

I'm hoping this will kick start everything and that I can figure out how to stop eating a weeks worth of chocolate in the evening so that it stays off, time will tell.

Hope to loose 3 stones and get down to around 11 which for me is normally a size 12/14.

Good luck everyone starting and well done to those who have lost.

I will no doubt be back with a ton of questions soon.
