Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Cerialkiller

The study that figure comes from also showed over 50% either maintaining or losing further weight (although note that the minimum amount they had to lose to be counted in the study was only 5 pounds), it’s here:

https://www.epicresearch.org/articles/many-patients-maintain-weight-loss-a-year-after-stopping-semaglutide-and-liraglutide

Many thanks, that's actually pretty staggering! Are we thinking that it actually rewires your brain/hormones/metabolism? It seems completely game changing. If it works for shopping, surely it will work for gambling too. What about obsessive compulsion? Is there any overlap with addictive behaviour there?

User2460177 · 24/05/2024 21:31

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 23/05/2024 12:09

Yes, but it stopped after 4 weeks. Sleep well now.

Ok thanks! Hopefully it will resolve itself then. I’ve been night waking.

not all bad though- my eczema seems to have disappeared. I used to permanently have it on my hands. MJ is a strange drug!

GreyFinch · 24/05/2024 21:34

2 NSVs today! I’ve moved to the next latch on my Apple Watch strap and my bath towel now wraps around my entire body!! 🎉

Cerialkiller · 24/05/2024 21:43

I've also had my period triggered. I've had spotting sometimes for the last ten years or so (on the pill which usually stops them) and sometimes keto brings on a bit more but this was a full on period like the old days, i had to find a ratty old pack of tampax that's been at the back of a cupboard for literal years!

WannabeHealthier · 24/05/2024 22:34

Bloody hell everyone… is this the busiest long-running thread on Mumsnet? I think it must be! Crazy we’re already on page 15.

@lurkylurk the impact of being a mum to young kids & working FT has meant my hobbies fell by the wayside and I need to restart them soon! But I keep busy with puzzles (arrow-words are my fav), podcasts (big Uncanny fan), evening walks with my daughter, and I’ve enjoyed researching fashion/style advice and creating new outfits (my clothes were so outdated and too big). My new hobby is Vinted lol! I’m with you on the knitting- my DD is obsessed but I just can’t be bothered with it!

NSV 1- I got a new job! It’s a promotion and this journey has made me more confident to go for it. My current job is WFH and if I’m honest I’ve been hiding my body, wearing joggers (with smart tops!) and piling on the pounds since Covid. Whereas my new job is in a busy office which is relatively smart. I start in July and I’m busy preparing a new wardrobe and my lunch plan!

NSV2- Wore my new Dove dress from Dancing Leopard today (red leopard print!) felt a million dollars in it and got lots of looks and a compliment from neighbour/school mum. It is lovely to be taking pride in my appearance again rather than hiding away. I know you can be plus sized and into fashion, plenty of other people look fantastic- but I never managed it - I was always hiding away in black trousers and floaty tops, just a big frump basically!

Investinmyself · 24/05/2024 22:37

Can’t believe how fast thread is moving. Big welcome 🤗 to all new starters.
@Hellijoy I usually have protein yoghurt/berries or a protein shake for breakfast. If I have brunch instead of breakfast/lunch I have omelette/scrambled eggs on protein bagel thin. Lunch a chicken wrap or salad or homemade soup lentil/veg/chicken. Dinner lean protein and veg small amount of carbs.
I’m eating much smaller portions. Virtually no snacking. I like the Aldi fresh protein ready meals in a rush.

Investinmyself · 24/05/2024 22:50

@WannabeHealthier Congratulations on new job and dress sounds fantastic, it’s so nice to be able to wear clothes you like.

Sye · 24/05/2024 20:35

Hi Scotty80, everyone is great, and made me feel very welcome, I started last week, the build up to the first injection consumed my life, but it’s very straight forward and doesn’t hurt, or it didn’t hurt me. I’ve been fine, perhaps a little cold at times, but that could also be to do with me living in the north end of the UK 🤣
Keep going through the threads, there’s loads of great advice and super results from members.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thank you @Sye 😀 it’s great to have somewhere to come for advice, I’ve talked myself out of doing this a few times. My order actually just after I posted, so bit the bullet and did my first injection! It wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected, just had to make sure to read over everything properly.
Im in Scotland so can relate to the cold!
Thank you for the lovely welcome, I’ll be sure to check back in, I know it’s not an easy road but easier with people who are going through the same thing! I’m glad to hear you have experienced any other side effects as yet, hopefully that continues xxx

lurkylurk · 25/05/2024 01:48

@WannabeHealthier

I like puzzles too actually, always used to do the daily Wordle and some others on there, will start that again.

I did like gardening and growing veg etc. but due to an issue with the joint where your pelvis joins the spine can't bend over for more than 5 mins or use a kneeling mat so that's gone out the window!

I'm looking forward to getting interested in clothes again but still a ways to go on that, I have no waist and am still stuck in skinny jeans and floaty tops for now! I have always had slim legs so actually got away with quite a bit of weight gain before it became more obvious with that combo, my friends couldn't believe that I was actually overweight (and they're slim so not deluding themselves too and we've been friends since teens so not just being polite or nice) for quite a long time, they believe it now though! 😂

I like walking and live in a lovely area for it but don't like going on my own so going to see if I can recruit any of my many lovely neighbours to join in, some work from home so that may be feasible and I will get the badminton in the garden with my daughter going as soon as it stops raining for more than day at a time so the lawn can dry out fully!

I think this thread has really become one of my hobbies! 😂😂😂

lurkylurk · 25/05/2024 01:50

@WannabeHealthier

Was being so self-absorbed there forgot to say congratulations on the new job!

Really great and although working from home is nice in some ways (I work for myself from home currently) I do miss the social aspects of working alongside others and I'm sure you'll really enjoy that.

FlappyFish · 25/05/2024 06:41

Good morning all and happy long weekend. Welcome to the new peeps. Solidarity to those plodding on!

It’s too early. Going back to sleep. 😂

bbqprincess · 25/05/2024 07:13

Hi everyone I've been following the threads for a while.

I started MJ 24th of April and I've lost 3-4 kg.

I've moved up to 5 mg this week but took the smaller dose, just in case. I clicked 45 times instead of 60 which I learnt on here, should be 3.75 mg.

I had zero side effects from my first two doses of 2.5 mg. I had some good appetite suppression too. However the last two weeks of 2.5 I had very little appetite suppression.

Anyway, I've now moved up to 3.75 mg and I've had great suppression and no side effects again. I inject in my thighs and arms only.

I was previously on Wegovy and had AWFUL side effects and not much suppression when the side effects wore off. I had migraines, nausea, a lot of vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation too. It was not possible to continue. But I was injecting into my stomach only.

Anyway reason for my post today is that I've noticed that I really hold on to weight when I'm exercising and lose the weight on weeks when I don't exercise as much. I only do cardiovascular exercise really, I play tennis 3-4 times a week. I love it. But I seem to hold onto my weight until I have a 'rest' week. My body is very used to playing tennis. I don't ever get any muscle aches from it, so I doubt I'm building muscle or anything like that- maybe it makes me retain water or increases my cortisol, which in turn makes me retain water / and weight ?

I literally ate only broccoli for two weeks and lost no weight. Now I'm visiting my family and I'm not playing tennis, I'm losing weight. Makes no sense !

lougher · 25/05/2024 07:23

Morning all, I'm now 8 weeks in, and though I don't post much, thought I'd do an update.
My big news is I'm exactly 1 stone down! I started at 14.13 and am now 13.13, it was very exciting to see 13 on the scales.
My loss had been slower than some, but it's ticking over. In my first month it was bouncing all over the place, I twice gained 3lbs overnight! It's getting a bit steadier now.
I'm on 5mg, and will continue with that dose for now. Although there is a part of me that would like to see some big weekly losses, I know there are benefits to slow and steady.
When I started I worried about how I was going to explain my sudden weight loss to everyone- no one has even noticed! I'm only 5'3" and apple shaped so carry most of my weight on my tummy and boobs, whilst I know both are smaller, there's lots more to go.
My youngest is 13 and I don't think I've seen 12 on the scales since before he was born. Even though it's another stone away, for the first time if feels achievable. Normally when I'm dieting, I'm filled with the inevitable dread that at any moment I could fall off the wagon and undo the losses. For me that is the big difference with MJ. I'm due my period on Monday, and I will most probably need a few extra carbs over this weekend, but I know I won't binge (I couldn't if I wanted to), and it won't be game over.
Hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend!

GlueNoGlue · 25/05/2024 07:28

Wish me luck, I’m about to leave on a weekend camping trip with 40 Cubs, and (of course!) I have diarrhoea! Luckily we are staying at a campsite, and I’ve taken a lot of Imodium but not looking forward to this!

Timeturnerplease · 25/05/2024 07:34

@lougher I’m 5’2’’ and have the exact same issue! Stomach and upper thighs hold all my weight, so event though I’ve lost nearly two stone not a single person has noticed because I’m so short! Was 15st 7lb, now 13st 9lb.

@GlueNoGlue Get some CoCodamol! Only thing that blocks me up when I have diarrhoea - and I’ve got IBS-D so have years of trying many things. Good luck!

MathildaMattie · 25/05/2024 07:38

As of today I’ve lost almost 2st. I’ve told no one about taking MJ and DH just said to me “Have you lost some weight?”

I can’t believe no one else has noticed!

FutureFeelsBleak · 25/05/2024 07:44

The health benefits being reported here are amazing. I guess for me the blood pressure drop was about no longer being obese.

I'm post menopause and have found shifting weight really hard, I hold it all on my stomach, but have also changed job and gone back to an office, so can no longer slob about in trackies.

My Vinted habit at the moment is replacing my multiple enormous back sack -like clothing with things that actually look nice. But am not going mad as I hope that a size 18 - whilst being an achievement to be celebrated - is transitory.

summerlovingvibes · 25/05/2024 07:56

Does anyone have a chemist-4-U code?

EsotericMnemonic · 25/05/2024 08:01

For anyone looking for a voucher code for Med Express, Consult-bloom just worked for 15% off on my first 7.5mg pen taking it to £148.

Trying to catch up a bit with this thread, great to read about the ongoing successes as people get further in. I started at the beginning of March and am now 2 stone 7 lb down, so very pleased with that.

This is similar to me. I have slim arms and legs, and hold all my weight around my middle (and have huge boobs), so actually it was quite easy to hide my weight gain for quite a long time by dressing cleverly. That’s also why it was quite a big shock when I realised it tipped over into the obese category.
I know weight around the middle is the most dangerous place to have it, so that’s why I’m so determined to do something about it.
I took my first injection on Thursday so still very early days, but I ate much smaller portions yesterday and no snacks. Even managed to resist when my daughter baked a Victoria sponge!

BlackFriYay · 25/05/2024 08:23

Does anybody know how long the consult-bloom code for MedExpress has been around? I wonder If it's a long term one as I'm sure i recall people using it for atleast a couple of months now.

I'll stick with them so long as there's atleast one code I can use. I'm good for the next couple of months though.

I suspect it may expire at the end of May, the previous one was CONSULT-BUNNY.

NightSweatsNinja · 25/05/2024 08:50

Congratulations on all the losses! I imagine people are noticing the weight loss, but it's perhaps a little bit of a sensitive subject to comment on someone's weight - so they're probably erring on the side of caution!

I totally get the 'hiding in clothes' thing - also WFH, but dread the school run as everyone else seems to be so slim and trendy...

Ah you're right, I remember consult-bunny now. Hopefully they put out a new one. If they are planning on stopping the codes they're going to lose alot of custom I'd have thought.
