Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I saw some of you posting about MJ making period cramps worse, and it didn't seem to affect me.... Until now. Holy shit, feel like I'm dying. Painkillers are taking forever to work!

imnottoofussed · 25/05/2024 11:49

@DownWithThisKindOfThing myvitamims sell a protein gummy I haven't tried them so can't vouch for them I just get vitamins from them.

If you use my referral code you'll get £10 off a £30 spend. I'll get £10 credit if you use my code www.myvitamins.com/referrals.list?applyCode=LOUISE-R1QI

I can't recommend the MYPROTEIN clear whey enough though it is like drinking cordial/juice and helps get your fluids and protein in. The code there gets you £20 off a £40 spend and free delivery www.myprotein.com/referrals.list?applyCode=LOUISE-R9AB

I sound like I work for them but honestly don't. I've used myvitamims for a few years. Currently take their collagen, ashwaganda and evening primrose. Protein I'm drinking the orange and mango clear whey.

FastGoose · 25/05/2024 12:27

Thankyou to those who recommended the clear whey protein drinks. I ordered at 2pm yesterday and by 10am this morning it had arrived! I've just tried my first one (cranberry and raspberry) and it has a great flavour, pleasantly surprised.
If anyone wants to try and get some money off here's a lil linky poos!

I’m moving up to 10mg in a week. Anyone on it?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 25/05/2024 13:20

My DP got me a Danone GetPro protein drink for my lunch today and omg it's vile. Vanilla cookie flavoured supposedly.
Told DP to give it a try seeing as he inflicted it on me and his face almost turned inside out.

I've tried some not so great protein yoghurts and shakes in these 14 weeks on MJ, but this one really is disgusting 🤢

3wDavid · 25/05/2024 13:21

I’ve done it!!! It’s IN! Here it goes!

i also weighed myself this morning, starting at 107.2 kg. Absolutely shocking!

how long did it take for you for that very first dose to kick in?

also just a tad worried because on the box of mine it says “best before 5/24”. Which is like now. So does that mean the last two doses will be out of date?! Is that dangerous? Am I being a nervous Nelly?

Hiya - mine arrived today too! Mine also says 05/24 but I had a letter explaining it’s valid until October 2024 and that’s been approved by the MHRA. So I think it’s all good 🥰
how was injecting?

3wDavid · 25/05/2024 13:31

@Hellijoy aww starting buddies! Hi!

oh that’s so reassuring to know! Mine probably did too but I only focused on the injection instructions 🙈🙈🙈

it was very easy! And painless. The needle is tiny. It seems pretty foolproof with the instructions and pictures. The dose goes to 1 so you can’t do more or less, and yeah, it was oddly anticlimactic!

not sure why I was so nervous and clammy about it 😬😄🤌

It's different for everyone. I felt effects with a few hours (fullness, lack of hunger) but that faded by day three. Done people get very subtle or no effects at all on 2.5 and have to wait for the higher doses.

I recommend that you try not to use it to justify poor eating choices (like I did on ozempic) as a last hurrah or because you have started a magical drug that will whip weight off you regardless of what you eat. I would start eating cleaner now in anticipation of it working. The upside of that is that it may minimise side effects if you aren't eating unhealthily/,large quantities.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/05/2024 14:08

Note to self, don't do weekly shop on day two of jab 🤢
Barely anything in my trolley - I'll end up going back later in the week now. I'm sticking at 7.5 for now, after the side effects I got on the second week. All seems fine now but I'm not in a rush to go up.

Investinmyself · 25/05/2024 14:19

@Sye it might be getting used to it or the chocolate. Hope you feel better soon.
@Bananabuttons welcome on board.
For any newbies I found aloe Vera tablets off Amazon really helped in first few weeks to stop horrible constipation. I’d take every other day.
My main exercise is walking and I’ve upped my steps.

Flapearedknave · 25/05/2024 15:58

Quick meds just messaged to say they have lowered prices of all weight loss meds. Wonder if others will follow suit.

Morning all and happy weigh day. I would cry happy tears, but I’ve just whooshed and…

Start weight. 14.3 when ordered. 14.1 when taken on 17th February.

Current weight…

11.5!!!!

I am no longer overweight. I have lost nearly 3 stone in three months and I am no longer overweight.

Whoop! Whoop!
I'm
8 weeks in and have only lost 15lbs! So very well done you!!

I went up and down the same 2lbs for about three weeks but last week I finally lost 3lbs!

Feel really bloated today though so hope I lose this week too 🤦🏼‍♀️

Cerialkiller · 25/05/2024 16:49

Nsv from today.

Went shopping in sainsburies and the self checkout has those screen showing the camera view of you. First time in ages a looked and wasn't horrified!

NCfor24 · 25/05/2024 17:27

Checking in, it's taken me ages to catch up on this thread!
First 7.5mg yesterday. Out today including lunch with my sister. She didn't suspect but was in awe of my ability to order a healthy meal (sea bass and Mediterranean veg) and then be full before I finished! She couldn't believe I'd stuck to a diet so long and was super proud. So I confessed to my secret willpower aid and she is fully supportive and wants to try it herself! She said she would never judge for getting help and I'm still the one doing the work...eating less and making good choices.
I'm absolutely stuffed now, also had a glass of wine but couldn't finish it. And I am absolutely wiped out which is probably a combo of the MJ and the wine.
Anyway it's another 1 or 2lb off for me this week, I weigh daily so not quite sure... 22lb in total now. Still not gone down a size yet but NSV is my clothes fit so much better and a work colleague noticed the loss when we caught up this week, I last saw her before I started as we WFH.

Rulay · 25/05/2024 18:07

3wDavid · 25/05/2024 12:59

@Rulay

GrinGrinGrin ah it's not that bad really. I took my first jab on Thursday morning and I felt unwell from Thursday evening until this morning but it miraculously lifted around the 48 hour mark which is good because I was able to eat a decent lunch and now I feel much better. I was as sick as a dog yesterday and freezing. It's a big adjustment for your body to go from eating what I was eating (takeaways and cake every day) to barely eating anything.

Youdontevengohere · 25/05/2024 18:13

I took my first injection on Thursday and so far haven’t had any side effects at all. Strange how it affects everyone so differently. Not getting too complacent though as it’s still early days!

3wDavid · 25/05/2024 18:23

I took mine 5 hours ago now, maybe 5.5 h. Don’t feel anything different much, other than I still feel like the lunch I had after is up in my throat 🙈 is that “the effect”? You just feel stuffed like you’ve just eaten?

also I noticed I now have a little purple bruise at the injection site. Maybe I shoved it too hard? Has this happened to anyone else?

FutureFeelsBleak · 25/05/2024 18:38

I just went to Sainsburys and bought the stuff on my shopping list - veg, protein yoghurt etc and didn't feel a single urge to add in any crap. Usually on a diet I would have my virtuous shopping, then convince myself it was ok to get some chocolate etc as well, given it was Saturday. Also 25% off in the TU clothing, and didn't buy anything. Usually I would have forced myself to get something (black stretchy trousers mostly).

Moanranger · 25/05/2024 18:43

Hello all & welcome newbies!
WI day for me
SW 85.3kg
CW 78.1 ( after 7 weeks)
GW 70kg ( mid Aug says Nutracheck)
So I lost just shy of 2lbs this week.
I did the first 7 weeks on 2.5 and I really wanted to stay on that, but its effectiveness suddenly faded last week, so I knew I must move up. My dilemma is I go on holiday in 10 days, so I didn’t want big side effects from doubling my dose. So I took 3.75, which I will repeat next week, then again the day we fly, and finally on return date.
some early side effects have returned, such as-
insomnia the first night, tho better the second
Constipation, so back to taking aloe vera
Grumbling tum, some belching (not suffer, TG!)
v v strong appetite suppression
Feeling wiped out.
I hope to achieve 77kg by start of hols, & not put any on during the week away. That’s the plan.
I will order 5mg when I get back but will take my time going up. You sort of know it, I think.
