Starting this thread for all the newbies who are just starting out.

I'm going to be taking mounjaro.
Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

Yes it's ordered and on its way. I'm not bothering with bonus doses or counting clicks, I just want to do it the way it is meant to be used. So many people report feeling ill when they've had their bonus dose and I feel like there must be something in that!

Will take jab 4 of 2.5mg later today 😊

I was down to 14st1 last summer before yoyo-ing up again to 14st12 before Christmas and then yoyo-ing up again to to my start point so until I see the 13s I won't have that real feeling of a big change but I'm delighted to feel like I'm on that trajectory. I don't think anyone will notice anything significant for a while purely due to being able to wear the same size clothes whilst yoyo-ing mainly between 14st7 and 15st4.

@MeAndMounjaro maybe a stupid question... what's the bonus dose? I've heard a few people mention it! Thanks

MeAndMounjaro · 30/04/2024 14:52

@Humptydumpty85
Once you have done dose 4, there is some left over, around about the amount for another injection. Some people are extracting that with a medical syringe or hard twisting the pen to force it out and using it as a fifth dose or to double up to 5mg on week 4.

A word of warning re:Voy - they have a 50% code for month one and then if you want you can move to another supplier but its extra effort as you have to prove previous supply and dosage (from what I have read here). They aren't the cheapest so people who have started with Voy are coming on to share their refferal codes to get a discount on their own next dose. You will see lots of posts from users who post only a comment about loving Mounjaro or losing X amount and/or no side effects and sharing their code. There's nothing wrong with that as such but they may not be genuine reviews and you may find yourself needing to do the same.

I like MedExpress, they always seem to have good code, I paid £90ish for 2.5mg and £120ish for 5mg.

I am struggling a bit with motivation: I don’t know if other people can relate to this, but I had been in denial about how much I weighed for a while and hadn’t actually weighed myself. So although I’ve lost 5lbs since starting I’m still way heavier than I was last year, and heavier than I’ve ever been in my life. So I don’t feel pleased, even though I should feel pleased with the weight loss.

I know it’s just a case of ploughing on but it seems a bit endless. I’ve had a very stressful time over the last 2 years with the serious illness of one of my children which has led to the weight gain (hospital food, too much wine, not enough exercise etc), so just feeling a bit gloomy about it all.

OwlWhereIsYourTowel · 30/04/2024 20:49

@Jennywren2000 would not help to mentally break down your journey ahead into smaller goals?

You've lost 5lbs which is great. Could you make your first goal to lose half a stone?

You could then go onto set your next goal (get under a stone bracket, lose 10lbs, lose a stone, whatever works) - sometimes it does seem like a gloomy old spot when you view it as a whole - and yep, it's super frustrating when losses only bring you to what you actually were in the past so I do get it

However, you are where you are and that's what you have to accept. You've committed to this and you've had a really good start so build on that

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 30/04/2024 21:27

I had my third jab on Saturday

I have lost just under 4kg which I know is really good

last few days I have eaten more but about to start my period. It’s quite a bit less than I usually do but it’s still wanting carbs

trying not to be disappointed as I think may have put a little weight back on. Have a touch of pmt so it’s hard to be pleased about anything 🙄😬

This might sound silly, but if you normally weigh in pounds, and find the numbers depressing, you could try weighing in kg instead. I switched - I have no idea what a good or bad weight is in kg, or indeed what I want to lose per week, so I really just look at whether the line is going up or down. Takes a lot of emotion out of weighing for me!

I totally sympathise with the gloomy endless feeling though. It can be hard to think it’s worth it. Small goals are a good idea.

MeAndMounjaro · 30/04/2024 21:53

Great advice above.

@Jennywren2000 I know what you mean, I am still chipping away at excess weight gained since last summer and because I was yoyo-ing so much I think it will take 3 stone before anything significant is noticeable by others.

There's no other way I could be sure I will get it off and not yoyo again so this is still the best position I could be in, to have been able to take 11lbs of it off in just 3 weeks. What's the alternative?! The weight is on right now so we either use our injections and trust the process or continue to gain/yoyo.

Jennywren2000 · 30/04/2024 22:18

Thank you all. Lots of useful advice. Will try weighing in KGs to get re motivated. Well done everyone with your losses.

Cici1988 · 30/04/2024 22:48

I haven’t weighed myself since last week (before I took my first jab of mj) but I tried on a pair of jeans (size 18 Levi’s) this evening when picking what I am wearing to the office tomorrow and they actually buttoned up without me having a meltdown. It’s not a huge victory as this time last year I was a size 16 and not an 18 but by Christmas 2023 I didn’t even attempt wearing said jeans because they didn’t fit (stomach squeezed over them and so tight it felt like I was being slit in two) but I’m happy that not even a full week down and I can wear them tomorrow. I’m not suggesting that it was just mj that has done this- I have been going to the gym and eating semi healthy beforehand, I just didn’t have the confidence to try them on until tonight when I felt “lighter” and less bloated.

for reference, I weighed myself last week and I was 110kg and 5ft 4. Will update on Friday what the scales say.

catslave23 · 30/04/2024 22:56

I have just taken my first injection this evening and feeling very apprehensive!
Currently 75kg which is my heaviest ever and I've tried every diet going but my urge to eat is just so overwhelmingly strong I can't stop myself and I'm constantly binging on sweet stuff. Have been this way since I went into antidepressants about 2 years ago but my weight is now the biggest thing impacting my mood so it's such a negative cycle I have decided to give this a try to get myself back on track.
I am very apprehensive about side effects so reassuring to read some experiences

Jennywren2000 · 01/05/2024 07:30

Catslave, I was also very apprehensive. In fact I’m sure almost everyone is before they start. I’m 2 injections in and have lost 5lbs so far (10 days in). I’ve made a list of loads of small goals as suggested above so I can tick each one off and stay motivated.

I’m still hungry at times as each jab wears off, but I’m busy with work, kids, exercising etc and it has just enabled me not to binge in the evenings and has massively reduced snacking.

The thing I’ve found hard is that I’d put on loads in the months leading up to it, so even after starting I’m heavier than I’ve been most of my adult life. But it’s early days, and I’m an impatient person!

I’m using it as a way to eat and exercise as I know I should, but which I have been unable to stick to usualy. I really would like to lose the weight but have a sustainable healthier lifestyle afterwards. So I’m keeping track of calories, eating lots of protein & vegetables & lifting weights 3/4x a week.

Good luck. It’s very motivating to see the weight loss.

GreyFinch · 01/05/2024 08:13

Hi all, I’m due to take my 2nd MJ jab today and I’m down 3.6lb for the week. Any weight off would be amazing but my non-weight target would be to have a slimmer face!! I’ve always been able to dress well/hide my weight as best I can but my face gives it away. I seem to have a lot LOT more to lose than others (at 271lbs) and at times this seems a bit like ‘what’s the point’ but I’m trying to set littler goals to stick with it. Does anyone else have a non-weight goal that isn’t to do with the number on the scales?

catslave23 · 01/05/2024 10:01

@Jennywren2000

Thanks for the motivation! Yes I am also trying to eat healthy. I'm also doing noom alongside to try and get into good habits with diet and exercise hoping that the medication supports me to stick to this!

@GreyFinch I also have a non weight target! Crunch point came for me when I couldn't get into my bigger jeans that I brought after I had my baby that were meant to be temporary (nearly 2 years ago).

First goal is for them to fit comfortably again. Then I'll be aiming for my pre baby jeans! But that'll be a way down the line!

CTRight · 01/05/2024 10:21

Week one done and 7lbs down - minimal side effects and overall feeling great. It has just given me that extra support to make the life style changes I really need. Delighted and hope this continues!!

Cerialkiller · 01/05/2024 11:37

Day 6 today. Had a ravenous morning yesterday and was a bit dismayed with myself and the quantity I ate even though it still fitted into my keto plan, just more and fattier then i wanted. I ate tonnes of protein for lunch and then was too full to eat dinner so it balanced out and relieved that the scales concur. 6lb so far. Would be delighted with 7lb on friday in time for next jab.

Feeling hungry this morning but also determined and hanging on for the second dose. I'm waiting on a client to pop round with some work for me then will have lunch, probably coronation chicken salad nom.

Just a warning for everyone, I have been finding myself feeling a bit jittery and more anxious then usual and have found some anecdotal evidence that this can be a side effect, not of mounjaro in particular but of low blood sugar which can be a side effect of MJ. I find this to be the case with keto too, possibly for the same reason. Just in case anyone has felt the same.

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 01/05/2024 20:44

Has anyone been hungry but doesn't want to eat anything once meals are eaten? I'm day 4 today if 1st shot, and this is how I'm feeling today. It is very strange, I do feel hungry but nothing is appetising. I don't feel sick, just very thirsty.

lastapache · 01/05/2024 21:59

Honestly I think the medication overcorrects your appetite at the start. It’s like your brain gets a shock with the overload of GLP1 and think”bollocks, we’re not meant to be this weight after all - let’s get to the new weight set point quick smart”. From talking to my doctor and what I’ve read, the hunger comes back when you plateau, even if you continue to take the max dose. Not the pre-Wegovy hunger, a normal amount of hunger. So you’ll naturally eat more, but your body will adjust your metabolism to keep you at this new weight set point.

However, in the meantime and during the over correction you really need to force yourself to eat, even when not hungry. Otherwise you’ll feel exhausted, cold, light headed, and your hair will start to fall out. Not to mention gallstones or pancreatitis if the weight comes off too quick. So maybe see what calorie dense good food you could eat - nuts, guacamole, full fat cheese and houmous might be good choices. Sort of the antithesis of every WW or SW advice you’ve been given, ironically.

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 01/05/2024 23:11

I have been eating my main meals (I eat two as I skip breakfast as I do intermittent) but I previously have been leaving about 200-400 calories for snacks which I just haven't been wanting to eat but do feel like I want to snack. I don't know if it is habit though as I'm sitting watching TV, and feel like I should be eating. I did just make myself have a protein yogurt to bring my calories up a little.

I do think you make a very interesting point about over correcting, it is definitely something that needs to be watched and you could easily get sucked into not having to eat at all.

ShrinkingDaffodil · 02/05/2024 07:34

Hi all 👋🏼
Has anyone had a recent delivery of MJ from Voy or know if there is any shortages / delays?
I ordered last week, photos got approved Monday but the date just keeps changing on the site for when it will be shipped.
i have messaged them but no reply.
just anxious as i go away 4 weeks tomorrow so was hoping I’d get the second pen in time to do a dose before i went and not have to cancel the delivery 😬

Cerialkiller · 02/05/2024 07:50

Day 7 here. Another half pound off this morning. I really should stop weighing daily but I'm enjoying it too much!

Not feeling any effects of MJ at the moment, seems to have worn off but either the keto is starting to work to suppress appetite too or the motivation of weightloss is preventing cravings currently.

Looking forward to next jab when I return from the school run tomorrow morning. Next week will be the real clincher for me. I usually have a good first week, lose a few pounds then it grinds to a halt in week too and I lose motivation and give in to cravings. Around day 10-14. If I can both maintain the diet and also lose an lb or two that would be a real breakthrough.

Sw196
Cw 189.5
Gw 154

6.5 of 42lb lost.

lastapache · 02/05/2024 09:14

I’m right with you Cerialkiller. I usually fall off the wagon after two weeks too. The beauty of these once a week injections is that they work even if you’re having a meh day and want to give in. At last the little voice in my brain that says “buy the big bag of crisps, you’ll only have a few” has something outside willpower to kick its ass.

5.5lbs down today after week one.

Height 5’7”
SW: 205.2lbs
CW: 199.6lbs
TW: I’m trying not to fixate on a TW. Ozempic will decide when my body plateaus and since we can only go up to 1.0mg in Ireland, I’m not expecting a spectacular loss. Getting to 170 would be really good, though ultimately I’d love to get down to 140.

tinpeach · 02/05/2024 10:27

Just finished week one of wegovy 0.25. No bad side effects yet.

Height: 5foot 9
SW: 224
CW: 219

First TW: 217

Nice 5 pound loss. Definitely felt like the effects had worn off a couple of days ago as I was opening the fridge a lot lol

tinpeach · 02/05/2024 11:00

Those that inject in their legs, wherabouts are you doing it? I've been injecting more to the side but i've just read you're meant to do it at the front. Will this be a problem??

Jennywren2000 · 02/05/2024 17:19

Does anyone know what happens when your BMI drops below 27? Have a while to go, but would like to continue until goal weight is in the healthy range rather than stopping at BMI of 27. Does anyone know about this?

I'm not sure @Jennywren2000 but interested to know the same - I'd really like to get to (or close to) a healthy weight, not just out of the obese catagory!
