Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Anyone had any GP issues? Mine is insisting I send in my prescription for MJ but I don't have one (ordered via pharmacy2U). Worried they will block my next order as I'm now BMI of 29 - not that GP knows my BMI, haven't seen them for years.

Is your GP asking for a prescription or pharmacy2u are? Sorry you say GP but I don't understand why a gp would ask for a prescription when they give out prescriptions?!

NCfor24 · 11/04/2024 16:51

@Missycat70 although I said my GP could be informed, I've not heard anything from them.
You'd hope they surely wouldn't block it for a BMI over 25, and should allow you to get well within the healthy range to allow some leeway.

Quick question- my first pack has arrived from MedExpress has arrived. All looks good with pen and sharps buckets but there are no needles? I thought they would come with it? Am I being stupid or do I need to buy these separately? Thanks!

Check in the packaging. Mine came with a little box with needles in and wipes.

If not there then they have forgotten to include them! I know they did that to someone else on here too!

It's my current GP. With pharmacy 2U I ticked the ok for GP to be told box, so I assume a mote has gone on my file and my GP wants to see the prescription that pharmacy 2U created to send me the MJ.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 11/04/2024 16:54

@Thebaldprimadonna when I lost 2 stone a couple of years ago, one of the areas where I really noticed it was my feet. It's funny as I don't think you realise where you carry weight.
For me, a NSV I am looking forward to is my arms hanging down by my side. They can't at the moment as they gave to go around my curves

WannabeHealthier · 11/04/2024 16:56

@Missycat70 thats unexpected from your GP although perhaps they have a reason to ask (other conditions). Or perhaps they’re just interested? If you’re in the U.K. and GP is NHS funded, you’d think they’d have better things to do!

RipePeach · 11/04/2024 16:56

@ObsidianTree I think they've forgotten to include them 😢 Gutted, I wanted to get started tomorrow too. Will try to contact them now.

Oh ok. Maybe take a pic of the box with your name and dose on it to give to them?

Or email pharmacy2u and ask for a prescription to send to your GP?

That's annoying @RipePeach . And it's not something you can get quickly anyway.

I suppose you could go to boots or a pharmacy that sells MJ and ask if you could buy some needles?

Or if you have Amazon prime you could buy some to get delivered tomorrow. I doubt medexpess will get the replacements to you until next week! Very annoying!

Yes in the UK, I agree I would have thought they'd be too busy to chase up people. Maybe mine is a bit over keen.

Good idea, I'll message pharmacy 2U and see what they can send me. Thanks x

So annoying! I've emailed MedExpress but got an email back to say that they'll get back to me in 72 hours. Now I've got it, I'm eager to get started 😢 I've just ordered some needles from Amazon Prime as you suggested. I'm hoping they're the right ones - 32 pentip needles...

RagzRebooted · 11/04/2024 17:15

Perhaps the GP surgery misread the letter as a request to issue it? It may not have been the actual GP that read the letter, could have just been a coder/secretary.
I work in GP and could see that happening.
They don't need to see a prescription because they aren't issuing or administering it, they just need to know you're on it.

You can buy a box at your local pharmacy for a few quid.

@RipePeach
If they're 4mm or 5mm insulin pen needles they should be fine, I think they're pretty universal

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 17:29

@RipePeach
The 32 bit is the gauge of the needle width and the 4mm or 5mm the length, so it'll say something like 32G 4mm insulin pen needles

Yes, the ones I have bought are 4mm - phew, glad to know they will work!
I'm pretty nervous about injecting myself as it is without the extra worry!

Hello
So I am struggling. Week one day 4. I've had to take 2 days off work due to gastro issues, obv6i can't do this every week.

Symptoms:

Nausea
Flatulence
Trapped Gas

I cannot work with these symptoms. Any advice please?

KeepingUndercover · 11/04/2024 17:36

Wow this thread is busy now. Can I just share that I've hit that rubbish stage where your jeans aren't so big that you need to size down. But they are also just a bit too big and sag unattractively. Also my belt is now too big.

How's your diet? Rich food is what has brought on bad symptoms for me. Do the symptoms feel like they're settling at all? It can be hard initially but they might calm down. Obviously getting in the way of you working is not sustainable though.

KeepingUndercover · 11/04/2024 17:40

@ClimbingMounjaro I also drank a lot of peppermint tea when I was feeling queasy. And drank a lot of water.

I've also found I feel much better if I do eat 3 meals a day. If I skip meals it makes my digestion weird.

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 17:45

@KeepingUndercover
It's a nice problem to have though! I've put on all my weight over the past 3-4 years so thankfully I still have 3 different sizes of clothes in my wardrobe waiting to be worn again, looking forward to being able to get back into them.

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 17:47

@ClimbingMounjaro

I've also found eating greasy food is a no-no in terms of consequences!

Make sure you eat regularly. Give it longer though as those symptoms often settle down once your body gets used to it.

ClimbingMounjaro · 11/04/2024 17:56

Chicken casserole
Chicken and veg
Nothing outrageous

Getting slightly better now but I'm dreading next week, I cannot be off sick again!I I do have Ibs
