Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@NC543210 in answer to your question a few posts back, yes this happened to me. I gave the aloe Vera a miss the following evening! I also suspect that me having some beige high fat food the night before had something to do with it!

guestusername · 08/04/2024 18:52

Evening folks. Day 3 and all is going well. Am averaging about 1000 cals a day but sometimes have to force myself to get that much. Am 2lb down so far but official weigh in is on Friday.

I found some protein drinks in Aldi which have been a lifesaver! 85p for 330ml/20g protein and 180 cals. I had one for lunch today with a banana and am still full. Interested to hear of any similar drinks anyone uses?

Hi all!
First injection was on Saturday, so far I seem to have had quite a few side effects! Tiredness, bloating, cramps, eggy burps & now the 💩💩

Those of you that had side effects, how long did they last? I'm scared to leave the toilet!🙈🤣

From what it sounds like (stumbled upon the same topic on the UK Mounjaro Reddit), you syringe the dose from the Kwik pen into the needle and then inject it into the skin. Probably more painful but I think I’d prefer that than trying to force the twist mechanism on the Kwik pen!

@guestusername ooh I'll give the Aldi drinks a go if I can find them. Apparently Lidl have good protein stuff too, unfortunately I don't live close to either 😕.

I've been having For Goodness Shakes. Currently on offer at £1.50 in most supermarkets. I've also had the slightly more expensive '365' version which has more vitamins in it and they were nice (I tried both vanilla and chocolate)

In my local Aldi they were in the fridge by the door with the sandwiches. They do chocolate, strawberry and salted caramel

Wonkypictureframe · 08/04/2024 19:19

I forced the pen (DH did it actually) and it turned without too much stress. I had a spare needle. But then I messed up the jab for the first time so not sure how much I actually got. My weight loss has plateaued now in this first month, although I remain my lightest in well over a year, so I’m slightly cursing myself I didn’t just go straight to the 5mg.

MammothyGoodness · 08/04/2024 19:27

Feelingslightlyuneasy · 08/04/2024 14:41

That’s amazing! Congratulations.
Have you felt okay with taking the 2.5mg? I’m coming to the end of the first week but still feel very ‘spaced out’ can not sleep properly and have a constant headache (plus haven’t lost anything yet) so just thinking this may work better for some than others? I have just over 1.5 stone to lose to get into a healthy BMI so perhaps won’t lose it as quick?
Youve done amazing though, hope it continues for you

Thank you! So far I’ve been cold and had indigestion and that’s been it. Then last week I was really woozy for a day and sooo cold, but that’s been it. I think needing to lose a lot helps!

CiderJabs · 08/04/2024 19:43

Is it me or is Mn full of new threads / posts of people almost selling mounjaro by suggesting people use their voy codes?

This is just so worrying :(

ObsidianTree · 08/04/2024 19:47

Lol. That's why I prefer MedExpess! Voy is expensive if you don't get people using your referral code! At least MedExpress you can get discount codes and have reasonable prices throughout without having to try and get people to use your coupon code to make it affordable!

Did my sixth injection on Saturday, my second at 5. Felt so tired today and under the weather. I have spent two hours asleep and have diarrhoea.

I know this is part of the process. Was lucky to be wfh today. How are others navigating this type of thing when they're in an office/out of the house?

Completely agree! Too much info but my first period since starting MJ has arrived. I have a "mild hormone imbalance" and usually spot for 2-3 days prior giving me warning it's on its way. it hit full force without me realising, luckily I was at home! Just a heads up for others.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 08/04/2024 20:01

@ChristmasLightsLover I'm a teacher and this worries me. I'm going to move to start taking my shots on Friday afternoon as soon as the bell goes so that I have the whole weekend to ride out any potential side effects when I move up to 5.

Hi Everyone! Just read all the way from thread one,
I started my journey on the 26th March and I'm due my 3rd jab tomorrow, when I'm counting on the calender that only takes me to 2 full weeks, am I being really stupid I'm hoping I've taken them correctly! So my 4th dose would be 16th which would be 3 weeks? I've got lack of sleep so I'm blaming that on me getting confused haha
Good luck everyone on your journey!

Yeah, but each dose lasts a week, remember. So it's 4 weeks worth of doses.
Dose on day one covers days 1-7
Dose 2 does days 8 to 14
Dose 3 days 15 to 21
Dose 4 day 22 to 28.

Thank you so much for replying, was driving myself mad then.

I have been wondering this. I only have to go into work once or twice a week at most so I’m doing my injections on Friday afternoon to ride out my side effects over the weekend

kitz90 · 08/04/2024 20:21

Hi everyone! I need to play catch up reading this thread as have been away for a week. I just ordered my first 5mg pen with pharmacy2u. It cost £162.45 with a £20 discount code from the internet.

This was the code: AYRXCW

I have lost 9lbs in 4 weeks. I should have taken the new dose on Saturday but was away and now my appetite is back to pre-MJ times which isn’t good. Last time pharmacy2u delivered quickly so I’m hoping it will be the same.

Some great losses on here : )

NCfor24 · 08/04/2024 20:21

I'm a Friday afternoon jabber too!
I mostly WFH so it shouldn't matter but don't want to have to dive off a Teams call! I often finish early on a Friday so figured a lunchtime dose gives me plenty of time in case there are issues, especially as I don't work Mondays either.

I did my first on Thursday, but to be honest I’ve felt so unwell since, can’t sleep, constant headache and just a general unwell feeling, I think I’ll change to Wednesday this week to try and get the worst of the ‘unwell’ feeling over by the weekend. My starting BMI was 27.6 and I have around 1.5 stone to lose so I’m not sure if it’s because I started on a relatively low bmi for this treatment that it’s giving me so many side effects?
So envious when I see a lot of PP who have reported minimal side effects!
