Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Well today I've gone from not be able to go to the loo.
To not being able to stop.

I'm not sure what's better tbh.
I've been scared to leave the house today!

Anyone had this?

Took my 3rd jab at 6am
At 10am the gates of hell opened.

ObsidianTree · 08/04/2024 14:44

FlappyFish · 08/04/2024 14:37

@ObsidianTree I have. What’s not helped is I take codeine and ibuprofen for period pain. Codeine is an absolute bitch for constipation anyway.

Since I am an addict I know what I’m like. I will merrily end up taking an entire packet of laxatives to get myself going. Why take one when you can have two? 😅

More water it is. 😆

I suppose if your body is used to laxatives it's not trying very hard to work your bowels on its own. So maybe give it a few days to sort itself out? And try and avoid the laxatives? Let's hopes some water helps it along 🤞

Today is really hard. Due my first 5mg on Friday but I really feel like my last 2.5mg injection had worn off already - I'm so hungry! And my throat is so sore (I think DD has given me her cold 😩)
I'm nervous to inject early though as side effects from hound some 2.5 and a whole 5mg in my system (I've luckily avoided side effects so far)

pinktransit · 08/04/2024 14:56

Feeling a bit of a fraud right now. Was out at the weekend with my other half, he knows I'm dieting. I did have a couple of pints, but was deliberately drinking very slowly - normally he's about 3 pints to my 2, but this weekend it was 3 to my 1. No problem there. We got to our local pub in the evening, he was starving because he's not eaten since breakfast. I'm not very hungry, had eaten lunch. He wants a curry takeaway. I say that I won't have any, not hungry, and when pressed reminded him that I'm on a diet.

He then starts praising my willpower - how amazing I am, he's proud of me.
It was the ideal time to mention that it's not just willpower, but I don't want to. I'm not telling anyone, maybe because I think they'll judge? But more because it's my choice, I'm doing this for me. I'm seeing it as an investment in me - I'm worth spending the money on.

So, feeling fraudulent. And as if I'm cheating.
Willpower alone hasn't worked in the past, I know that. Menopause, age, boredom/stress eating and lack of willpower is why I'm overweight. I'm on week 2 (day 5), and doing ok. Not massive loss, but a loss none the less.

So this post is to remind myself that I don't need to feel guilty. I am choosing to do something for me. How I do it is up to me.

Lauraliv24 · 08/04/2024 14:56

Just been accepted for Voy. So annoying, I didn't see any discount codes before I signed up.

Here's a referral code which will give 50% off to those wanting to start. https://joinvoy.com/r/U-CIYToOC0vL

Excited to get started!

I was advised to take it at night before bed.

Soukmyfalafel · 08/04/2024 15:27

Letsgoogogo In terms of exercising I do find my energy levels are quite low and I feel tired. I'm struggling to lift weights, but the reason I took MJ was because my weight was impacting exercise and it was getting more difficult to run and lift weights anyway. I am on 1,2k calories, so hope that when I can increase my intake again I will feel better.

Exercise also made me hungry and eat what calories i burned plus more, so now I'm not doing that I'm actually benefitting from the calories burned.

Nooneknowsbutme · 08/04/2024 15:27

@pinktransit 100% you are entitled to do this for you!
This isn't a magic jab, we still have to put the work in, it just helps us make better choices...

I haven't told my partner, or anyone for that matter, which feels a little deceitful..
but hey, he won't mind when I'm happy to run around naked!

Nooneknowsbutme · 08/04/2024 15:30

@PissedOffNeighbour22
You'll be a Forever Living rep before you know it 😂

Well done on the loss!
Can't wait for clothes to fit me again...
Literally day 1 for me.

Aloe Vera tablets off Amazon have worked perfectly for me. I take every other day.
Also drink lots of water and eat veg/fruit.
If you are eating less and prioritise protein you will 💩 less. The medication is also designed to slow food down through your system.

Is there a certain brand you’ve bought? Thank you for replying

Lunab18 · 08/04/2024 14:18

I’m the end of my first month and have lost 13lb. Just started my 5mg pen which I got from medexpress for £127.50 thanks to someone on here posting a promo code.

Would you mind sharing the code please?

Sabblue · 08/04/2024 15:43

I know you should keep the pen in the fridge when not opened, it says that after 1st use it can be at room temp. Do you do that pr still keep in the fridge? Thanks!

Ahhh sorry, that's a code for Voy.

chouxchoux · 08/04/2024 15:45

Well this is weird - I can’t get this out of the pen. It just won’t twist at all! It’s the “extra” dose in my 2.5mg pen. Is this normal?

Continuing Mounjaro...part 4
Choux · 08/04/2024 15:50

I may have just found the Mounjaro food holy grail. Lentil daal soup.

It's got fiber for those who are constipated - mine was 9.6g fiber.
It's lentils so it's protein - a bowl of the one I had was 7.1g of protein.
It's filling and soup keeps you fuller for longer than other food so is a good habit to get into food wise for long term weight loss: time.com/4603869/soup-weight-loss/

And it's tasty!

I’ve still not told anyone. I’m calorie counting, tracking everything on nutracheck and prioritising protein and lots of water. I’m losing around 2lb a week so in line with my current calorie deficit. I am dieting. Previously I’d barely lost anything despite being in calorie deficit for months. It’s as though the medication has flipped a switch and made it possible to lose with cc. The only explanation to my failure before was I was somehow cheating and not logging everything but I was - even weighed salad and berries. That stumps the young pts as they only know the eat in calorie deficit = lose weight. I’m perimenopausal, auto immune disease, probably insulin resistance and so it just wasn’t working for me.
I do recommend logging on nutracheck even for a short while. You know you are in deficit and if you set to monitor protein and cals it keeps you focused on that.
I’ve not been to gym yet wanted to adjust to medication first.

Your post really resonates me, I have the exact same experience. Autoimmune disease leading to a severe health event, meticulous calorie counting, exercising daily, no alcohol, no sugar, etc, and over the last 6 months I lost exactly ... 1.5kg.

Now, with less than 2 weeks Mounjaro, I already lost 2kg. Incredible. It's like my body is remembering how to body.

Hello namesake! Yes it's normal. You apparently have to twist it really hard for the 5th dose. Some use pliars. Or teeth.

Ooh, name twins (almost!) - thanks, that's really helpful. I was on Wegovy prior and just assumed it'd be the same (i.e. you can get every last drop easily). I'll see what I can do as I don't want to let it go to waste!

WannabeHealthier · 08/04/2024 15:59

I’m not telling anyone either besides my supportive mum and husband. Too many people are judgemental about this kind of thing - for various reasons.

I’ll tell them I’ve been limiting my calories, which is true. If asked outright, I will lie!

Nooneknowsbutme · 08/04/2024 16:03

@WannabeHealthier
Im fully intending on lying if asked outright....
I do not know anyone personally who has been on weight loss injections before... so I don't think friends/family would even think it.

I think most people in the UK think it's just American Celebs who are on it!

Priority1234 · 08/04/2024 16:11

Hey everyone!

Checking in - 5th dose tomorrow, doubled my last 2.5mg with the extra dose, so second week on 5mg, but first with the new pen.

SW: 103.8kg
CW - 94.7kg

9.1kg lost in 5 weeks!

I'm sooo excited to be back in the 80s :)

The majority of experiences on this thread are positive, it's so great reading everyone's successful journeys and it's lovely seeing the support those struggling with anything are getting. You lovely bunch!

I haven't told anyone except my adult ds. I thought it best to have one person in the know in case there's a medical emergency, like if I had a severe allergic reaction to the first jab. Also, he is helpful for intercepting the post from DH (as long as I make sure to get MJ delivered when he's home from uni on the weekends!).

I thought that I wanted to get started and make sure I didn't get crazy nasty side effects and see some results and then I'd tell DH, who I think would be absolutely fine with it. But as time goes on, I don't really want to tell DH or anyone! Not yet anyway.

If anyone who I know struggles with their weight asks me how I lost weight, I'd think about telling them about MJ, but otherwise, I plan to only tell some of the truth: I've improved my diet and started strength training.

Choux · 08/04/2024 16:18

@chouxchoux my 5th dose is still in the fridge. I bought some sterile insulin syringes off Amazon to get it out as my prescriber only gave me 4 screw on needles per pen. So far I have been bit nervous about using a different needle so just moved up to 5mg. I want to use it though!
