I would love to talk to some 2019 brides! I'll be the first to admit I've got stress coming out of my eyeballs! I hate the planning and now wondering if we will even afford it on time Sad
I'm also wondering how to lose weight!! Anybody else?

I'm getting married on 1st February

I've done my dress (collecting in Jan, hope it still fits after Christmas....!), got his suit, bridesmaids dresses and suit. We've obviously booked venue, registry office then restaurant by the river. Booked pianist for guests during meal and dj after. My friend is making a cake. Sorted hen night and his stag weekend.

Need to sort out readings, music for first dance, probably some other stuff I've forgotten

JingsMahBucket · 29/11/2018 14:44

Mind if I join you? We're getting hitched next April, likely on the 19th. I've been talking to venues this week and a caterer. We're going to get married in NYC and that's been slap in the face regarding budget. I thought I'd be able to do it for a certain amount and it's looking like a lot more now.

What are people using for wedding websites? We're going to send out invites electronically likely next week and I'd like to have a website set up for people to RSVP there.

JingsMahBucket · 29/11/2018 14:58

Is anyone hiring an event planner or are you doing it all yourself? I mean, do you have someone to help on the day of the wedding who will just be focused on making sure everything runs smoothly, handles vendors and the venue, decorations, etc? I'm considering getting one but i'm not sure.

MoHunter · 29/11/2018 15:56

Wow JingsMahBucket I just saw this on a wedding group, NY is the most expensive State for weddings...

I’m doing all the planning myself, though if it’s a destination wedding I would be tempted to use a wedding planner who is local to the area.

I’m not getting any kind of planner but like MoHunter I think if it was a destination wedding, I would definitely consider it.
Still haven’t booked anything 😂 waiting on the new vicar to ‘approve’ us (so to speak) and she doesn’t start for another week.. so impatient 😂

JingsMahBucket · 30/11/2018 09:43

@MoHunter, I’m from NYC and we’re heading over there to get married so I can get a UK spouse visa. Afterward we’re moving to Scotland. :) There will be some of OH’s family and our friends flying over but mostly it’ll be my American friends flying in from other parts of the US or local to New York.

I’ll be moving back to NYC in February to start readying everything for the wedding so I think I'll have enough time to build relationships with vendors. I’ve already scheduled a tasting with a caterer for the second week of February. I think my only worry is the day of planning and ensuring everything goes smoothly.

What do wedding planners usually cost?

Softpebbles · 30/11/2018 21:27

I am February next year!

Having wobbles about everything, just feel quite overwhelmed with it all!

HerondaleDucks · 01/12/2018 09:01

I went with a package deal at a hotel, it feels like having a wedding planner as she's organising so much for me

MoHunter · 03/12/2018 14:10

How is everyone getting on with their planning? I literally haven’t done anything for the past two weeks apart from contact a couple of bridal hair and makeup places - so far struggling to find someone who is available (it’s a Sunday wedding) and doesn’t cost an absolute fortune. Confused

Secretsquirrel101 · 03/12/2018 19:50

I’ve actually booked something now Grin we are getting married on Saturday 27th July 2019 Grin we have meetings with marquee companies over the weekend so hope to have a marquee booked before Christmas.

JingsMahBucket · 03/12/2018 23:13

OH and I had a very sobering conversation about money and a long budgeting session this evening. We should have done this at the beginning but I'm glad it's all on the table now. This was brought on by me saying on Sunday evening that I really didn't want to pay all this money just to get married. Grin I told him I was honestly scared to spend that much and felt that it needed to be trimmed back.

Doing the budget for the next 7 months really put down some clearer boundaries. Tomorrow evening we're going to hash out the possible directions/options we have. In the meantime, I'll start contacting more restaurants caterers to see if we can possibly cut the cost in half.

blueskiespls · 04/12/2018 07:20

Hi can I join! Another for 29th June Grin only got engaged in November and booked most things. The first week I was a crazy women booking everything, I got myself into a state .... do have calmed it down a bit now. But pleased all the main stuff is sorted.
Been trying to think of a first dance song.... it's something we are completely stuck on!

blueskiespls · 04/12/2018 07:22

@Secretsquirrel101 we've just booked our marquee. Was more expensive than I thought. But we have gone for a nice modern one with clear roof!

blueskiespls · 04/12/2018 07:26

@JingsMahBucket our reception is in a marquee in a field. So having to sort all the diddly bits ourselves... food. Hire of crockery etc... we are paying f a friend of a friend (a mega organised lady who I can trust!) to make sure runs smoothly. We will also employ a couple of teenagers to clear plates, collect rubbish and generally keep things tidy. The main lady will the direct them and also keep everything to schedule. I'll give her a plan with times on etc. That's the pain of not doing the reception in a hotel/building. You have to do it all yourself!! But I didn't want friends/family at wedding to have to do anything. Just enjoy !

Secretsquirrel101 · 04/12/2018 07:41

They’re not cheap are they Hmm but that’s okay, it’s what we’ve always wanted so we’ll just have to deal with it! We’re so lucky, our farm is right on the coast so we’d be fools not to make the most of it!

gizmosslave · 04/12/2018 07:45

Another for 29th of June here too! Must be a popular day!

I’ve done most big things it’s just little things left to do but a lot of them! And of course the monthly budgeting and loosing the weight!

SargeantAngua · 04/12/2018 13:06

Hello fellow 29th Juners! I'm worrying I haven't sorted the invitations out yet now! I wanted to get Christmas out of the way first. We've told most people the date already though, so I guess the invitations aren't that urgent. I've got ME and just don't have the energy to do them now.

titchy13 · 04/12/2018 15:28

Hi 2019 brides!
I'm getting married May 31st. I've been engaged since NYE 2016 so i've had a bit of a wait. Can't believe how quickly the time has gone.

We're having a church wedding followed by a reception in a barn. We've now started going to church in preparation for the wedding which is making it all seem more real.

I'm trying to not overstress, my fiance loves a good spreadsheet and he has all the tasks laid out ahead of us with assigned dates.

Completed so far: church, venue, photographer, flowers, invites, dress, bridesmaid dresses, transport, makeup, accomodation, cake, DJ.

MoHunter · 04/12/2018 18:33

Ha! That’s awesome. Sadly my fiancé isn’t lifting a finger with regards to wedding planning, except for occasionally giving his opinion on things, I’m organising everything. (But he does work long hours and has health issues so I’m not too bothered by this.)

I have finally found a couple of hair stylist and makeup artists who are available, just have to make a decision.

What’s everyone paying for hair/makeup???

blueskiespls · 04/12/2018 19:26

@SargeantAngua we haven't even thought about sending invites out yet... I didn't want it to get all mixed up with Christmas!!

SargeantAngua · 04/12/2018 20:17

blueskiespls phew, glad it's not just me.

Re the hair and make up - the price of some new make up and some shiny hair bits then doing it myself wirh help of SIL to be. Just me and 12 year old bridesmaid so keeping things fairly low key in that department. Interested to hear what others area doing though.

blueskiespls · 04/12/2018 22:05

My sister is a hair dresser. And I only want something informal with fresh flowers. So that's easy! 3 bridesmaids aged 7,9,10 my 2 girls and my niece.

MrsFionaCharming · 05/12/2018 18:03

My invitations arrived today! I’m so happy with them, they look even better in person than they did on the website.

I used one of the set designs on vista print for the invitations, but changed the layout, the background, the wording, and the colours. So it’s still reasonably unique to us. I didn’t like the wording on the matching reception cards, and because it was technically a picture not text, it couldn’t be altered, so I paid £6 for their ‘design service’ and they changed it for me. Overall, I’m very pleased with them! 70 Day invitations, 50 reception cards, 120 envelopes, and 150 envelope stickers, all came to £70.

CurbsideProphet · 05/12/2018 21:55
