This came as a bit of a surprise this morning! I've been outside and it's definitely a bit drizzly but no wind to speak of. I think someone at BBCW has pressed the wrong button 😆

I guess it will be corrected when the office folks clock on after 09:00.,

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/10/2024 08:46

Compared to some we are fine. We are only getting 3886 mph winds.

BunnyLake · 10/10/2024 08:46

My area also coming up as hurricane force wind, with rain. It’s actually dry with blue skies.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 10/10/2024 08:47

Remember folks, there's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.

Hmm, well given your username, I'm not sure we should be taking advice from a duck... WinkGrin

Useless BBC. Over 3 hours and still not fixed. Those pesky Russian hackers, eh?

Chersfrozenface · 10/10/2024 08:52

Shortly after the BBC started using MeteoGroup instead of the Met Office in 2018, MeteoGroup was acquired by a private venture capital firm from Switzerland, TBG AG. In 2019 it was integrated into an American weather services company, DTN, which is also owned by TBG AG, and rebranded DTN, with a European HQ in Utrecht.

So when the BBC says its weather data supplier is MeteoGroup, that's not strictly true - https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/about/17185651

MathsandStats · 10/10/2024 08:55

I have 27,000 mph winds coming. Do I take the prize for windiest place? South coast of England and we often get strong winds so...

On the plus side my predicted temperatures are normal!

CotesDuNone · 10/10/2024 08:56

@Chicooo you might need a bigger coat 😯

goodluckbinbin · 10/10/2024 08:57

always thought the Beeb weather app was very pessimistic!

I’ve got a YouTube link to the updated weather forecast . Please don’t click on it if your ears are sensitive to swearing 😆

That is brilliant!!! 🤣🤣

Should I cycle with 14,965 mph winds?

only if you've got the wind behind you - might be some effort cycling against it

nevertrustanyoneagain · 10/10/2024 09:11

When Labour takes over the Met Office.

LumpyandBumps · 10/10/2024 09:11

Love this thread. Thanks for starting it.
I am due to fly from Heathrow tomorrow- if the wind’s in the right direction I might just get my umbrella out and fly Mary Poppins style.

Barney16 · 10/10/2024 09:12

Here too. Outside seems very calm but obviously bracing myself.

In all seriousness, when there really is a hurricane elsewhere on the globe, I'm surprised they've left it up for hours while they work on it.
Someone from BBC weather tweeted "it should be obvious from the impossible wind speeds" but a lot of people probably won't know what is a normal wind speed for a hurricane and what isn't.

I'm afraid I disagree with this.

These wind speeds are quite literally impossible. If anyone looks, sees 1600mph winds and thinks that's possible, that's on them.

I doubt whether many people even look at the wind speed. They just see the words "Hurricane force winds".

itwasnevermine · 10/10/2024 09:28

@Chersfrozenface and presumably you then notice you can't hear the wind blowing, look outside your window and see there's no hurricane, and realise it must be a glitch?

WhySoManySocks · 10/10/2024 09:32

They have a banner now on the app saying they’re experiencing issues.

Or you think you're in the eye of the storm. 👀

My weather is showing a 3 digit wind speed figure because the other digits don't fit in the bubble.

NoOffButton · 10/10/2024 09:35

Same on mine but is says they’re experiencing issues and taking steps to resolve it.

Or you take it that "weather forecast" refers to the weather that is expected to arrive at a future point, so not the weather outside your window this second.

Northerngal1974 · 10/10/2024 09:36

Same where we are. All this focus on Florida and we have winds over 10,000 mph!
