This came as a bit of a surprise this morning! I've been outside and it's definitely a bit drizzly but no wind to speak of. I think someone at BBCW has pressed the wrong button 😆

23,658mph here in Scotland. We’re used to windy weather so that’s just a light breeze for us. I’ve double pegged the washing just to be safe. I’d be mortified if the guy next door had to pass my knickers with the reinforced gusset back over the fence.

Bit concerned about the all day sunshine combined with the 23,658mph winds. I’ve run out of factor 50 after the long hot summer we’ve had. 🌞

😂😂😂

This thread has been hilarious this morning! Thanks OP

Sorry to boast but mine is currently sitting at 23658. I’ll need to put my hood up when I walk the dog

I’m near Milton Keynes. Looked like they’d got us mixed up with Hurricane Milton until I saw that it’s everywhere!

Tangled123 · 10/10/2024 08:16

Mine is currently hurricane winds at 26,465mph in NI. 😂.

It’s currently sunny and dry. 😂

If you’re looking for your washing it’s just landed on my son’s roof in Cumbria

I think we all know that, I don't think anyone was sat there thinking they actually had 1600 mile an hour winds! But it's just funny

That was more towards those assuming more nefarious goings on.

Ha! Just checked and here in Belfast we have bright sunshine and hurricane force winds of 15336mph. Bit of cloud tomorrow, but no let up with those winds. I always think a combination of sun and wind is what gets the washing dried, so just heading out to peg it up now. Wish me luck🤣🤣

If we don't hear from you again, is there anyone you'd like us to contact?

I'm just going to stick mine on the end of a very long very strong lead and let her out the window she's never flown before it willake a pleasant change from a run in the park

😂

WeregoingtoIbiza · 10/10/2024 08:22

Penguinsa · 10/10/2024 08:24

Be a good day to watch airport camera feed.
Spot of light turbulence and a couple of aborted landing attempts, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I'm a bit surprised they haven't fixed it yet, or even turned it off and put up a "temporary fault" message.

Met office looks OK

I saw it go by twice as it circumnavigated the globe before landing there.

Garlicbest · 10/10/2024 08:35

Haha, same here in ultra-calm, slightly damp Herefordshire 🤣

So random shower-based thoughts:

Winds of 15k+ mph is faster than the speed of sounds. Would we all be deafened by continuous sonic booms?

The winds are faster than the earth spins (I think). What happens if the winds are blowing in the direction of the spin? And what if it's in the other direction?

Would the earth take on a bit of a wobble? And what would happen then?

I asked my 16yo ds what he thought. He shrugged and asked Alexa. Alexa didn't know.

sharpclawedkitten · 10/10/2024 08:37

I just saw this too, this is what happens when you let AI loose on something...

I think it's safe to say that if these winds genuinely appeared we wouldn't be able to be worried about it!
