I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

I’ve left Classic FM on for the cats (they stay in the kitchen at night) like I do with the fireworks. They’re a bit twitchy.

Our dog went into the garden for a bit and decided against it. For a lab, that's bad!

@NoWordForFluffy I’m doubly in disgrace as mine hates the rain and didn’t want to go out in the first place.

PickAChew · 21/01/2024 19:40

My carrot and swede mash ended up being carrot and swede crush. It got half an hour and still wouldn't yield. Must be the air pressure.

You have some serious making up to do! 😬🤣

greenacrylicpaint · 21/01/2024 19:43

powerbanks are charged.
and there is a tealight in a glass mug & lighter in every room.

fingers crossed the storm will be uneventful.

we lost a few roof tiles during Pia, hopefully the temporary fix holds up.

StuckintheRutt · 21/01/2024 19:45

Does anyone know when it peaks with badness please, South east near London

Deathbyathousandcats · 21/01/2024 19:47

Possibly just after midnight?

So bad here in Yorkshire. All the scented candles I’ve accumulated in presents over the few years (hate candles!) are going to be very useful I think over the next 24 hours. Dotted all over the house in various drawers and cupboards. Just need to remember where I’ve put them….

Now normally I would either have the candles and nothing to light them with. Or a lighter and no candles. Got both thankfully although at the moment apart from being very windy the power seems ok. So hopefully they won't be required for that reason! I am however very grateful I switched my shift over to this morning cos I wouldn't fancy driving back home in tonight

PickAChew · 21/01/2024 19:49

Put your location into the met office app (or on the Web) @StuckintheRutt and that should give you a localised forecast.

StuckintheRutt · 21/01/2024 19:51

Ok so looks like 3 hours at 50pm and then from 11pm it drops off to 40

PickAChew · 21/01/2024 19:51

We don't do candles but do have plenty of camping lamps, after living somewhere where the power fell over if a bird flew past a bit hard.

onceuponatimeinfairyland · 21/01/2024 19:51

Anyone know how bad it's supposed to get in the West Midlands?

Well, there’s an amber warning so it’s going to be quite unpleasant

MrsGasManridesagain · 21/01/2024 20:01

Just drove home to Berkshire from Weston Super Mare (everything was yellow warning when we left this morning!) and I was surprised at how hairy it was. Granted we were in a little Vauxhall Meriva but I'm knackered from the concentration. High siders visually struggling.

Sending thoughts to those of you further North and West.

EmmaEmerald · 21/01/2024 20:02

JFC.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/01/2024 20:02

@StuckintheRutt we've got the same, 3 hours at gusts of 60 then drops off to 50.
Lampost outside the house is rocking alarmingly- then I noticed the caravan in the garden over the road...

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/01/2024 20:03

Just saw there's a tornado warning too...
Sorry if it's been mentioned already.

StuckintheRutt · 21/01/2024 20:06

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy no that's not been mentioned where is it??

Our of interest if ones roof gets ripped off where do you go?.

TokyoSushi · 21/01/2024 20:13

Just breezy here in Cheshire, but not too bad yet.

VanLife33 · 21/01/2024 20:13

@PickAChew 🤣

Perrie80 · 21/01/2024 20:14

Sounds wild outside(North Devon)

MeinKraft · 21/01/2024 20:15

There's just been a huge flash outside my house. No idea what it was

Alexandra2001 · 21/01/2024 20:23

So far, nr me SE Cornwall, avg wind speed 25mph gusts to 50mph.... so for the time being ok.

Owen456 · 21/01/2024 20:23

Staffordshire here and just got in from work (work outside ) and it’s gusting at 58mph according to iPhone weather but it’s vile out there and quite scary .

BarbaraBuncle · 21/01/2024 20:29

Gusting at around 60mph just off the coast where we are. It's pretty noisy. There's some tall trees in the field just behind us that DH has been watching. He says they're starting to struggle.
