I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

74mph gusts in Edinburgh. Just watched a plane flying very slowly towards the airport.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/01/2024 23:37

@StuckintheRutt it was on an Aberdeen FB newspage but I googled and there are numerous articles.

Thankfully none here so far hehe.
It's very gusty here and my fireplace covering keeps getting blown open and clinking. I'm hoping it doesn't wake My 2yr old.
My bedroom is wobbling!

Storm Isha latest: Tornado warning as 90mph winds batter Britain

MrsGasManridesagain · 22/01/2024 00:05

We're in Berkshire in the yellow warning area only and omg the wind! The windows are shaking and lights flickering

Belindabelle · 22/01/2024 00:08

Red warning for north east Scotland. I am just below that are in the amber zone and it’s bad enough.

PickAChew · 22/01/2024 00:30

Wow. That's not even where they were expecting to have to upgrade the warning level.

Quietened down a bit here, in Durham, around 11 but my door knocker is going manic again. The met office forecast seems to have it easing.off more slowly than the original forecast.

Power cut down the road from Ds2's school so I should try to sleep in case there's more.

ADoggyDogWorld · 22/01/2024 02:52

Pick at our old house the knocker used to rattle madly if the wind wad coming from a particular direction. It was solved by a blob of blue tack at the contact point. Maybe try blue tack on your knocker?

Rowgtfc72 · 22/01/2024 03:26

East coast went weirdly quiet at 230am.
I must have slept through the worst but the weather station down the coast from us recorded 40 miles an hour winds at midnight with 62mph gusts. Never seen it reach that.
Will let the dog out in a bit and see how much damage I can see in the dark. Something doesn't sound right in the garden and the guy two doors down bin lid keeps banging.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/01/2024 04:50

Wind had died down, still a breeze, but we have no power.

Allegedly back on at 6am. I hope so, as I want a coffee, but more importantly, a hot wash.

GloriaSmud · 22/01/2024 06:33

Wind died down about 11pm here (Leicester) There was some light stuff rattling around in the garden and the lights dipped once but that was about it for us.

BBC still have their live reporting going on here.

National rail enquiries for train travel disruption,

There are no rail services in Scotland and nothing will resume until mid-morning there. Looks like there could be travel disruption everywhere, especially this morning.

Storm Isha live: Thousands without power as gusts reach 99mph - BBC News

A rare red warning was issued for the early hours, with all four UK nations being battered by strong winds and rain.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/01/2024 06:41

And we have light, more importantly, we have coffee and the heating on,

CaveMum · 22/01/2024 06:43

Cambs/Suffolk border here so right on the edge of the initial amber warning. Sounded pretty bad out there between 8 and midnight (when I fell asleep). Local Facebook page reporting a few trees down across roads into the village.

It’s bin day today so naturally when I went for my 6am run there were quite a few wheelie bins over and bin bags on the road. I did the good neighbour thing and righted the bins I passed and kick a few bags to the side of the road.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2024 06:47

It was quite a lively night last night, but a notable lull locally sometime after midnight. I hope everyone came through unscathed.

We are currently at 21 knots of wind, seems like a light breeze after yesterday.

lola8345 · 22/01/2024 07:19

Still noisy here in W Yorkshire, I went to sleep early, so no idea what it did in the night, it's too dark to see outside.

The power crews are absolute heroes though, can you imagine working in that weather?

Sorry, just saw Gloria posted the same link. Not very awake yet. Wink

North East Coast of England and I'd say 2am it really ramped up. According to BBC the strongest recorded gust was 99mph at Brizlee Wood, Northumberland.

Scared to look out of the window, but I'd better get up I suppose.

lola8345 · 22/01/2024 07:47

"The It's just windy weather people."
Are hunting down their trampoline, or like my idiot neighbour, picking up all the recycling which has blow across everyone fields!

They don't follow the weather goddesses.😁

Daftasabroom · 22/01/2024 07:53

Why did our neighbor put the recycling out last night? Half has blown all down the road, half is in our driveway.

ListenLinda · 22/01/2024 08:10

Just got home from taking the kids to school, the wind is still strong enough to blow me sideways when walking back up our street & still is howling around the outside of the house. Wfh today anyway but seen a few trains have been cancelled on my usual route.

Summary of disruption. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-68036507

I often wonder what the 'it's just windy weather' posters think after the event.

I thought it was "just windy" before the event and during it I thought "wow that's really fucking windy".

Today a branch of our tree has snapped off and I see a business fence has blown over on places. Just driving through town now and there's nothing to report. So meh, windy. :D

People like that drive me mad. It's a spectacular level of lack of awareness. They should be fined.

LittleRedRidingSnood · 22/01/2024 08:40

Dd is in the area of N E Scotland that was upgraded to red in the early hours of the morning; waiting to hear from her.

For you personally. This was possibly the strongest storm to hit some parts of Northern Ireland in 20 years. There is widespread disruption across the four nations. Power outages, rail lines closed, roofs off some buildings. Yet yesterday you posted as in the screenshot.

It was plenty to talk about and you were rude.

oh yes and it was sufficiently dangerous for the Met Office to issue a rare 'red warning'.
