I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

We're at 71 mph now. Poor Anglesey 91 mph

Deathbyathousandcats · 21/01/2024 20:31

Anglesey and the Needles always get it bad.

StuckintheRutt · 21/01/2024 20:34

Does anyone know where the tornados was

PriceMeByTheYard · 21/01/2024 20:43

Pretty lively in Lincolnshire but doesn't seem quite as bad as earlier. Still roaring down the chimney, though. The dog and I are sharing a blanket on the sofa and trying to take our minds off it. We don't much care for wind.

Medusaismyhero · 21/01/2024 21:26

It's horrendous here in the NW of Northern Ireland. Lights have flickered a few times and our roof sounds like it's going to come off.

Also had a mini panic attack an hour ago as our home insurance renewal came in during the week and it said "your contents insurance renewal". I remember thinking "gosh, did I accidentally not get buildings insurance last year - good thing it's up now in February, must be more careful".

Checked my emails when the roof starting sounding like it was in trouble and thankfully we do indeed have buildings insurance 🙈. DH would have killed me!

I've had a closer look now at the Tuesda/Wednesday storm and at present it does not look as severe as tonight's.

🙏 Thank goodness for that

HazelTheGreenWitch · 21/01/2024 21:38

@MeinKraft Was it a flash of green light by any chance?

socks1107 · 21/01/2024 21:46

We've just had a really big green/blue flash. Was really impressive if not a little scary.
We were watching people's bins rolling down the street at the time! Been told since it was a power line coming down and our lights did flicker briefly

JenniferBooth · 21/01/2024 21:48

@OhYouBadBadKitten Agree about the scaremongering Daily Express are particularly bad for it Somehow it ends up in my Twitter feed

EmmaEmerald · 21/01/2024 21:56

@JenniferBooth Re Twitter, are you set to see "Following" rather than "for you"? That should filter out the crap.

JenniferBooth · 21/01/2024 21:57

@EmmaEmerald Will check Thanks Hope you are doing OK Flowers

No definitely not as severe but still potentially an issue to structures and trees etc that have taken a battering from this storm but hung in there.

I didn't notice, I had my back to the window at the time and there was just a big flash. I've no idea what it was

Perihelion · 21/01/2024 22:19

Properly windy now in Edinburgh. According to the forecast, we're getting battered at this level till 3am.
Weirdly 13.4C.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 21/01/2024 22:23

Totally wild here in rural Dorset, I have white noise playing loudly to block out the noise.

Jellykat · 21/01/2024 22:25

We're at 66mph gusts atm (West Wales coast) according to the MET office.

TokyoSushi · 21/01/2024 22:37

Wind definitely picking up in Cheshire

GlomOfNit · 21/01/2024 22:42

Met Office website says we're experiencing gusts of about 52mph. All I can say is, it is bloody violent out there! (Oxfordshire) Rain is rattling against the windows like gravel being thrown, the house is noticeably vibrating with the gusts, it's very very noisy out there. I get very nervy with high winds as the house is not in great repair. Sad

Earlier, there were local reports on social media of several blue/green flashes of bright light, and now several areas have no power. I missed the flashes but our lights have dipped a couple of times ...

I still have the kids' packed lunches to make - better crack on before I have to do them by camping lantern!

HazelTheGreenWitch · 21/01/2024 22:45

I am in Oxfordshire too, and saw three flashes of green light up the sky, just for a moment.

colouringindoors · 21/01/2024 23:02

Those flashes are most likely to be electricity pilons/cables failing in the wind.

Very windy in Bucks.

I'm a bit gutted I missed them, but there again I have stupid Nuclear Fears Grin so would probably have wet myself!

prettycolours · 21/01/2024 23:05

I'm in Kent, I was watching the storm out the window and just saw a large white/pink flash in the sky. There was no thunder afterwards.

I also just saw the milk float out doing its deliveries!

Farcis · 21/01/2024 23:31

SE London here - it’s wild out there. I’m in our loft conversion and very much hoping we still have all our tiles come morning!
