I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

Not too bad here in N Hampshire right now but I’m not counting my chickens yet.

Discovered the wind speed graphic thing in my iPhone and I’m not surprised it’s bad in North Wales- looks absolutely vicious the speeds coming up the Irish Sea. Hope everyone is safe.

NW here. I made dinner early and have pans of water, candles and a flask of boiling water ready.

Where does which forecast come from? ECMWF? Its a European model. You want to be looking at UKV or arome really at this point. They are high resolution short term forecast models.

Hi Kitten, could you tell us what the reading at the bottom of the UKV app is please? Thank you 😊

MrsMarzetti · 21/01/2024 18:51

SW Scotland , pretty gusty here but still have power and tv reception so all is well.

socks1107 · 21/01/2024 18:52

It's really windy here now and I'm waiting on my 20 year old driving home from her boyfriends! I'm just putting hot water bottles in everyone's beds too as we always lose power

PickAChew · 21/01/2024 18:55

The Northern Powergrid power cut map is beginning to get rather dotty.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/01/2024 19:02

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten

On Isha already?? That means my name is next according to the Met Office list.

Hope it doesn't get to that point and that Isha isn't too bad.

Yes, Jocelyn incoming Tuesday by the looks of things and if people think it's windy now they ain't seen nothing yet! Local weatherman suspects upgrade to red warning for much of western Scotland later.

Preparing for a power cut.
Everyone's had showers, done tea and cleared up. Filled up the flasks and hot water bottles.
Charging phones, dug out a torch and some candles.
Also whacked the heating up to make the house toasty, it should stay warm for a while!
Stay safe everyone

With the last storm our fence fell down and knocked me into a flower bed, I don't want to talk about it.....😁

Just a heads up for dog owners, the wind just blew the door shut on the tip of DDog’s tail as I let him in. I’ve apologised with chicken but he’s glowering at me.

Livelovebehappy · 21/01/2024 19:15

So bad here in Yorkshire. All the scented candles I’ve accumulated in presents over the few years (hate candles!) are going to be very useful I think over the next 24 hours. Dotted all over the house in various drawers and cupboards. Just need to remember where I’ve put them….

liveforsummer · 21/01/2024 19:18

@Iwillletthemkniw it's a Scottish amateur weatherman called Windy Wilson on Facebook. Tends to be accurate majority of the time

Our dog went into the garden for a bit and decided against it. For a lab, that's bad!

Theimpossiblegirl · 21/01/2024 19:19

Somerset here.
The wind is wild but I don't think we're getting the worst of it. Stay safe

ListenLinda · 21/01/2024 19:20

West Yorkshire here.
We drove DNiece home at 4pm just before the amber warning kicked in, it was pretty hairy on the motorway in Leeds, felt the car almost aquaplaining at one point. Then the wind nearly took the car door as we arrived home. DH has already chased a few wheelie bins (our terraced house is next to the ginnel where we and neighbours put our bins), and I’ve taped the letterbox shut as it likes to rattle and bang in the wind.
it sounds awful outside currently and it is meant to get worse. Keeping an eye on the river Aire level too as it that bursts its banks it cuts off my access to the train station for work. Stay safe everyone.

eatsleepfarmrepeat · 21/01/2024 19:24

Just got in from checking the yard, cows and sheep are all housed but the winds ripping through the livestock sheds make me worry we might have some roof sheets off when it picks up. Dogs came with me but everyone was very keen to get back in the house. We have a generator for back up power although it’s a pain in the arse to use and drinks diesel. South Lincs.

Oh bloody hell☹️

butelass · 21/01/2024 19:27

Power on and off here already. Torches at the ready.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2024 19:28

I'll be chatting about the Tuesday/Wednesday storm in more depth tomorrow. But at this point, stay away from sensationalist web forecasters. It does potentially look similarly nasty for Scotland and perhaps parts of northern England, but it doesn't have the same huge very high gust windfield showing that this one does.

Plump82 · 21/01/2024 19:38

I'm actually starting to feel a little panicky about this now. I'll be closing the livingroom door so the cats can't get in as I'm worried about the windows coming in. Our bedroom is more sheltered. Also worrying about my mum as she's right next to a forest which a huge tree that is right over her house.
