I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

Did anyone else have a huge thunder storm this morning around 9am? Thunder and lightning and very heavy rain.

There were some thunderstorms today

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy
Kitten is never rude, she's consistent and helpful and dedicated to weather. she is dedicated to helping people.

You were rude and flippant when millions were frightened and suffered damage.

Kitten is lovely.

Two people lost their lives to this storm too, the warnings were definitely valid.

That's very kind. Sometimes I am a little grumpy!

I do get frustrated when people accuse me of scaremongering. That would never be my aim. To inform people in a balanced way empowers people and allows them to take sensible precautions. Weather is most frightening when severe weather comes out of the blue for people. Sometimes I do need to say 'actually, you should take precautions because this is a dangerous and/or disruptive situation'.

I love @OhYouBadBadKitten because she is always polite and measured and because she spells Met Éireann properly with the fada (long accent). We appreciate you :)

Hi kitten, I’ve followed your weather posts for ages. I’m in land management, storms, particularly strong winds, are a huge problem for me and clients managed estates. I always find your posts invaluable, it baffles me that people are so flippant about the weather just because we don’t have the same severity of weather extremes to other countries.

Iwillletthemkniw · 22/01/2024 21:18

I've followed Kitten for about 18 years, she's always brilliant so off with your head Hungry Caterpillar

JenniferBooth · 22/01/2024 21:22

@OhYouBadBadKitten i think you get the balance just right

socks1107 · 22/01/2024 21:50

I always pop over here to see what the level headed ohyoubadkitten says when we any sort of weather.
I could be prepared, ask my daughter to come home early and I'm glad I did and always do

Everyone's very kind. Thank you.

And of course there could have been fewer severe problems because we were warned and took precautions.

Thank you for your weather threads @OhYouBadBadKitten

This. I largely sat at home thinking that I expected it to be worse, and our bins hadn’t even fallen over.

But I’d wedged the bins in and travelled earlier in the day than I’d planned off the back of the warnings, so we were out of the higher ground areas before the worst of it it. No doubt if I hadn’t done so, I’d have thought it all a lot worse.

I’d rather a small amount of over caution make it feel anticlimactic than be underprepared and have it seem worse than it need be.

Here we go again. Wonder if my wobbly fence will get through this one, or survive once more being propped up by a couple of garden rakesHmm

Thanks op

2 fence panels tied to the post with ribbon, all I could find that would fit the gap. Holding up so far. My DH thought I was ridiculous.
