Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

Very wild here in West Kent. Husband pissed off to bed at 1030!! Have been outside getting umbrellas down ,securing side gate ,locked out by internal doors 😩Am massively pissed off TBh . I did get in ,but would have hoped that I would not be the only one securing our home !

ChimpyChops · 02/11/2023 00:29

Plymouth here. Heavy rain and wind. Had one bout of thunder and lightening from what I've heard.
Hoping everyone is safe.

JenniferBooth · 02/11/2023 00:36

We have been on a yellow wind warning since 9pm but it seems to be mostly rain.

Caerulea · 02/11/2023 00:37

Absolutely dead calm on the North Coast, it's really odd

Objectrelations · 02/11/2023 00:49

Hi joining in from Jersey. I'm in a Victorian house so hopefully it will withstand this storm. The hail we had earlier combined with the wind was terrifying. My legs went to jelly i was so scared.

Glad it’s just not where I live that’s eerily quiet!

Stressedafff · 02/11/2023 01:01

Nothing here in Oldham Manchester…yet!

Marcipex · 02/11/2023 01:06

@Objectrelations that sounds scary. I hope you get some sleep.

Emanresu9 · 02/11/2023 01:07

I’m in guernsey. It’s absolutely wild out there. Quite scary listening to it. Children are all asleep happily. It’s coming from the south and due to turn westerly in a few hours.

hoping all animals/horses etc on the island are ok.

MrsMcvities · 02/11/2023 01:22

Northern Ireland here, we have been battered the last few days by this storm! Fields and country roads so flooded (rural farming are) but then like a light switch this afternoon…. So calm! The rain has been biblical the last few days .. half term too! Hope everyone getting it now is ok

VivienneDelacroix · 02/11/2023 01:23

South East Coast - it's pretty windy out there, but no banging of bins, or errant garden items, so not as bad as I expected- yet.

EmmaEmerald · 02/11/2023 01:24

I think it's very quiet in Essex

But I now live in a very compact development with buildings all around me

Living in a high rise for 15 years, storms were pretty scary and very noisy up there. I'm facing another building here, there's a garden where I could see more but I cba going round there as I'm in my PJs.

BiscuitBrewInMyBigBlueMug · 02/11/2023 01:25

Seasalter, Kent..it's horrendous!
I feel like Dorothy and my house will end up in Sheppey at any minute
Just waiting on the storm now

Dorset Somerset border. Wind and rain on and off here. Not too bad at the moment. Although saying that, I’ve had to put a rolled up towel against the front door as there’s rain blowing through the gap underneath.

foxlover47 · 02/11/2023 01:42

Bedfordshire, raining and windy

sayitkindly · 02/11/2023 01:49

Stay safe everyone and hope you all manage some sleep.

Fbifan · 02/11/2023 02:14

@Emanresu9 also guernsey. It’s terrifying. Just got up for a wee and can’t get back to sleep as so worried about our house and garden

SequentialAnalyst · 02/11/2023 02:31

It's nearly here, according to the radar.

FoleyHuck · 02/11/2023 02:37

Reading some residential buildings are seriously damaged here in Jersey and a bit of footage suggests a tornado about midnight. I am wide awake and so tense you could snap me in half.

Iamamountain · 02/11/2023 02:39

I’m in Surrey - it’s awful here. Feels like my windows are going to cave In at any minute. My cat is not happy.

Fbifan · 02/11/2023 02:40

@FoleyHuck where are you reading your info?

spitefulandbadgrammar · 02/11/2023 02:41

Eastbourne. It’s very howly here, the wind sounds like foxes screaming. Can hear things banging about but no bins flying down the road – everyone’s pretended it’s not bin day.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 02/11/2023 02:45

Absolutely nothing whatsoever here in North Yorkshire. Not so much as a breeze or a raindrop, it's just cold.
