Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

@FoleyHuck 😭. I hope you're OK.

I was sort of alright with the wind, so far. I do NOT like this Sad

Near constant lightning and absolutely torrential rain / hail.

criminallyvulgar · 01/11/2023 23:54

On the coast between Portsmouth and Southampton. Very loud outside now. Wishing we didn't have scaffolding up.

Howyoualldoworkme · 01/11/2023 23:54

Hello to you from Waterlooville!
No I can't hear the rain anymore but who knows what's going to happen later on. We did all our Thursday things today just in case and if course now I'll think it's Friday tomorrow 🙄
I see they still had the firework display in Southsea!

Vebrithien · 01/11/2023 23:57

Heavy, heavy rain, around Somerset/Bath area.

Hope you all get some sleep, and stay safe.

I couldn't believe they went ahead! Waving at you from 3 miles away!

DevonSeaSwimmer · 01/11/2023 23:58

Starting to get wild here in south Devon.
Local media reporting an unattended car being washed into the sea in sidmouth.

There is a car visible on one of the Sidmouth webcams.

I lived in South East London in the 1987 storm and when the power cut happened my Dad brought us down to the lounge and with torches added more drama to the situation by telling ghost stories. A tree then fell and crashed down in to my parents' bedroom window! My parents still tried to take me to my primary school which was a 15 minute drive away and we found that a huge tree had fallen on to the conservatory which contained the dining hall so obviously that was a no go. We had to drive around loads of fallen trees to get there I can't believe my Mum didn't turn back at the first one!

FoleyHuck · 02/11/2023 00:01

The hail that was just hitting our flat roof must have been the size of footballs. I genuinely thought it might come through. Now back to a monsoon level downpour.

I'm glad we're this side of the hill!
Gone quiet now, don't think I'll sleep so I'll do my Squaredle.

First clap of thunder in Bournemouth , oh my god and this is just the beginning !

Makemydaypunk · 02/11/2023 00:04

CeilingWacks · 01/11/2023 23:36

Huh?! I'm in East Devon, 10 miles inland, and it's quietened down just now, but we've just had 40 minutes of the loudest, most relentless winds I can remember. (I'm choosing to believe "that was it", even though the forecast is clearly showing it was just a warm-up.....)

Literally nothing happening in my town in North Devon at all, it’s not even raining! It’s utterly bizarre hearing about this storm and it’s so still and quiet here.

LittleBigJam · 02/11/2023 00:06

Well it was a lovely day in Bournemouth today, sunny and mild ☀️till a few drops of rain late afternoon.

Then suddenly this! It’s been mad outside with whippy winds and rain and thunder.

I usually ignore any UK extreme weather forecasts as they rarely touch this part of England, so I’ve been taken by surprise.

justasking111 · 02/11/2023 00:06

Stay safe all. Try to sleep 😴

Marcipex · 02/11/2023 00:06

It’s quietened down to ordinary wind and rain in West Devon.

Wishing everyone good luck, especially the waterfront people.

Electro79 · 02/11/2023 00:07

Salisbury, raining harder, some gusts of wind and a strong breeze driving the rain.

Lightning on the skyline from Bournemouth direction.

TV reception (freeview) gone

needtonamechangeforthis1 · 01/11/2023 23:42

Hey? Where abouts in Devon are you? I'm south east side of Dartmoor and is been blowing a gale her. Winds died down a bit now but we've had thunder in the past hour too.

North! It’s so still and quiet where I am, I will be having serious words when I next see David Brain!

Iamonetoo · 02/11/2023 00:08

Yes take care all

Sideorderofchips · 02/11/2023 00:08

Had managed to doze off. Woke up to constant lightening, wind and massive hail I thought was going to break the windows

Not going to lie. Fucking terrified.

LadyGAgain · 02/11/2023 00:09

I'm over the hill too @Howyoualldoworkme . It's quiet!

PickAChew · 02/11/2023 00:13

Hope you all get to the morning unscathed. It's sounding pretty nasty down there.

everythingwillpass · 02/11/2023 00:13

Its blowing a hoolie on the Suffolk Norfolk border around ten miles from the coast. Only just recovering from flooding too.

prettycolours · 02/11/2023 00:15

Damn, I can see that band of thunder/lightning creeping across on the radar, looks brutal. I suspect it'll reach where I am (Kent) by the time I've finally nodded off and wake me up again 🙄

Hope everyone is alright tonight.

cafenoirbiscuit · 02/11/2023 00:20

Rainy but still a nd no wind in Reading so far…..

Sideorderofchips · 02/11/2023 00:26
