Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

Near constant lightning and absolutely torrential rain / hail.

No I can't hear the rain anymore but who knows what's going to happen later on. We did all our Thursday things today just in case and if course now I'll think it's Friday tomorrow 🙄

Starting to get wild here in south Devon.
Local media reporting an unattended car being washed into the sea in sidmouth.

I lived in South East London in the 1987 storm and when the power cut happened my Dad brought us down to the lounge and with torches added more drama to the situation by telling ghost stories. A tree then fell and crashed down in to my parents' bedroom window! My parents still tried to take me to my primary school which was a 15 minute drive away and we found that a huge tree had fallen on to the conservatory which contained the dining hall so obviously that was a no go. We had to drive around loads of fallen trees to get there I can't believe my Mum didn't turn back at the first one!

The hail that was just hitting our flat roof must have been the size of footballs. I genuinely thought it might come through. Now back to a monsoon level downpour.

First clap of thunder in Bournemouth , oh my god and this is just the beginning !

Literally nothing happening in my town in North Devon at all, it’s not even raining! It’s utterly bizarre hearing about this storm and it’s so still and quiet here.

Well it was a lovely day in Bournemouth today, sunny and mild ☀️till a few drops of rain late afternoon.

Then suddenly this! It’s been mad outside with whippy winds and rain and thunder.

I usually ignore any UK extreme weather forecasts as they rarely touch this part of England, so I’ve been taken by surprise.

Its blowing a hoolie on the Suffolk Norfolk border around ten miles from the coast. Only just recovering from flooding too.

Damn, I can see that band of thunder/lightning creeping across on the radar, looks brutal. I suspect it'll reach where I am (Kent) by the time I've finally nodded off and wake me up again 🙄
