Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

Getting wild in Gorey (Jersey) now. I remember 1987. It's not that bad (yet) but it's bad enough - and the worst isn't supposed to hit us until overnight.

I just hope no one will be stupid enough to go and stand on the sea wall anywhere here or in the UK tonight...

I disagree, if idiots wanna be idiots than it should weed out a few more stupids from
the population. Darwinism.

Itsbecauseiamamum · 01/11/2023 23:16

The wind here in west Kent has really picked up ! Dog under duvet and am joining her after I have finished my stiff drink!!

twobluechickens · 01/11/2023 23:18

Cornwall Live is an absolute crock of shite, a total embarrassment to the county.

The rain has stopped here (nr Truro) and the wind died down so I briefly forgot there was a storm imminent, but it's picked up again now. Off to bed now so good luck to everyone in its path and hope you and your loved ones get through unscathed.

Central Dorset, South Coast (can see the sea) almighty thunderstorm and lightning, wind picking up.

Where possible shut all windows and internal doors helps to protect the roof from winds.

Several trees down already.

Similar area here, have to drive 40 miles on rural tree lined roads to work in Bournemouth early tomorrow morning, so I hope it calms down as I dislike driving at the best of times! It’s very windy here right now but imagine it’s worse for others.

ZittiEBuoni · 01/11/2023 23:20

Dorset coast, it's roaring out there. Bloody cat has only just come in (soaking wet), so the catflap is firmly shut as of now.

Jungfraujoch · 01/11/2023 23:24

I’m in Bournemouth. Rain stopped and wind quietened a bit.

A lot of the trees that line the roads to Bournemouth are old. We've had some down already- I imagine there will be road closures tomorrow

It is weird here, it goes from perfectly still to strong winds and back again. Seems we will miss the worst, thoughts are with those not so lucky.

Makemydaypunk · 01/11/2023 23:26

I’m in Devon and where I am there is not even a light breeze! I feel like I’m in a parallel universe!

Maatandosiris · 01/11/2023 23:26

right on the sea front in Newquay windy seems to have stopped raining atm

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/11/2023 23:32

@HamstersAreMyLife @verdantverdure Thanks, hopefully it will calm down by mid morning.
My DD is currently being seen at a&e and she's not being admitted so that's one less worry!

@KenAdams Unfortunately no trains until the morning so can't start making my way back home.

Waveifyouknowme · 01/11/2023 23:34

Was going to bed but a horrendous crash made the house shake. Have sent DH out to investigate.

Huh?! I'm in East Devon, 10 miles inland, and it's quietened down just now, but we've just had 40 minutes of the loudest, most relentless winds I can remember. (I'm choosing to believe "that was it", even though the forecast is clearly showing it was just a warm-up.....)

RedDiamond · 01/11/2023 23:36

@Waveifyouknowme Oh no!

DragonScreeches · 01/11/2023 23:41

South Wales here, very rainy (nothing new!) and a bit windy right now.

It's definitely kicking off here in Chichester. Massive sycamore outside is being knocked about like a sapling and it is very loud.

Also in Chichester we have waves in the toilet. Very loud sitting in my daughters flat roofed bedroom

Hey? Where abouts in Devon are you? I'm south east side of Dartmoor and is been blowing a gale her. Winds died down a bit now but we've had thunder in the past hour too.

Howyoualldoworkme · 01/11/2023 23:43

Just over the hill from Portsmouth, wind getting up a bit even though we're quite sheltered (I slept through the 1987 storm!)
We were moved from our hotel in Ryde last week because of the flooding and I thought that was quite enough excitement thank you!
They're going to get hit again just after they've cleared up, feel so sorry for them.

We don't have those yet. It does sound like someone in punching the windows though!

What a relief! Stay safe and try and get some rest if you can.

Anyone else suffer physically when pressure drops? I can barely feel my face right now!

Hi neighbour!

Reasonably quiet here so far, I’d agree. Yes, it’s windy, but not scarily so. Doesn’t sound like it’s raining anymore.

KenAdams · 01/11/2023 23:45

Kernow weather have posted the eye is very close to Cornwall so they're expecting a quite couple of hours before the worst hits.

Yes ! My ears have popped and I've got a weird pressure feeling in my head.

FoleyHuck · 01/11/2023 23:49

Heavy thunder and lightning over Jersey and Guernsey now! Just what we need Confused

MrsGasManridesagain · 01/11/2023 23:49

@Baileysandcream I always suffer but this is really something else. And I'm in Berkshire so miles away from the eye!
